Congratulations to Alex Ovechkin on 500 career NHL goals! I’m so honored to have been able to watch you grow on and off the ice these last six years. The impact you have on this whole area, from DC, VA, MD, and beyond, is just so amazing to see and be a part of. 

The events of tonight have had me thinking. Being here for major and incredible moments like this have me cherishing my time in DC and NoVA. I’m originally from Tennessee, and before the Caps, I didn’t feel as deep of a connection with Virginia. My family had moved all over and this was just a stop along the way. But then we stayed here for so long, before I knew it I’d been here for half my life. When I started following the Caps, I finally felt a real connection to the area. It’s truly amazing how a team can make you feel at home where you never expected to. The Sabres have done the same thing for me in Buffalo. 

In saying that, I feel my time in DC/NoVA slowly slipping away. My degree is finishing up and it has me thinking about my future every day. I don’t know where I’ll be next year after graduation, but I’m praying for Buffalo, and that will mean leaving this area I’ve come to love. My heart may be with the Sabres first, but the Capitals will always hold a deeper part of it. I fell even more for hockey by always getting watch them and attend games. Leaving here may be one of the hardest things I do, but knowing it’ll be what I’m meant to do, has me not taking any moments here for granted. I’ve been so blessed with opportunities here, I’m excited to see where it all takes me, keeping my favorite teams with me wherever I go. But you never know, my next chapter may still be here after all.

BUFFALO SABRES 2011-12: THE UNFINISHED DOCUMENTARY

Way back in 2012, I attempted an archival documentary about the Buffalo Sabres 2011-12 season. Unfortunately, I never finished it, but I found the files recently and wanted to share them with you all! About two years ago, I released a gif set on rocktheredblueandgold that showed a short sequence from the documentary, and many of you asked if I would post it.  Well I’ve finally put the five segments together as one film! Even if it is an incomplete doc, there’s still a story that all Sabres fans, and I hope other hockey fans will appreciate. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: This entire video is part of a Hockey Portfolio: Sabres Collection reel, so the first video is a separate work from the documentary. The doc starts at 1:47. Be prepared for the feels as nearly the entire team covered in this film is no longer in Buffalo. They’ve all done even greater things since and I’m so proud! I’m even more excited for the bright future of the current team that holds our hearts in Western New York!
