"comparing apples and oranges" has always been funny to me as an expression because people's go to exampe of two things so radically different that they defy any useful comparison are apples. and oranges. like you would struggle to find a more comparable pair of objects than that. theyre literally sold right next to each other in most stores.
Ok the US Attorney General says that she will remove ICE if MN drops all our sanctuary laws, complies with ICE, hands over all our SNAP, Medicaid and voter rolls. They demand control over our voter registration so they can "ensure free and fair elections".

The train journey was fine, & the tracks in this area are in good repair. Should you ever have cause to visit, it is about one day’s journey via the train from the city to the station in Corgate, which is very small but well kept. I am told from here it is another two hours’ [scratch-out, “tra”] travel to the ruins. As such, I am intending to make the journey to the station for mail & supplies once weekly, and will consider it a morning’s work.
While I am away from Avalon, would you please keep me abreast of the latest happenings with the council? And of course the general public knowledge of our colleagues & their doings. Such walls! The buildings in Corgate seem made [scratch-out, “of”, but written poorly] of tissue paper to my eye - all frame, wattle, & daub and no bricks to be seen. I am not so sure I will be truly suited to agent’s work in the field, but I can certainly see that Mg. Hawkins is quite in his element. He seems quite at peace with himself here in a way he has [scratch-out, “nev”] never seemed back home. Like a bird let loose from a cage, I suppose. I am ever so glad he is happy, but I will have to learn his trick of avoiding the country mud before I go mad.
On an unrelated note, however, would you please stop by Vimes Place and look for my brown satchel? In the scramble to get Mg. Hawkins (and all his supplies) out the door, I believe I left it

I am sending this down for posting with the team that brought up our bulky supplies, so if you have sent me a reply I have not yet seen it.
What a place these ruins are! [scratch-out] And the mountains themselves! I am very glad I had some shorter skirts made for the practicalities, for it is all rocks & clambering about. We are on the ocean side of the [scratch-out, “mountains”] ruins, and each evening I see the sun set across the water - though in truth I saw little our first night, as there was much fog.
The whole air is alive with the scent of the trees, which are both unmistakable pines & also quite strangely fashioned.

They smell quite sweet, mingling with the ocean & the kelp & a general sense of earthiness. It is all wild loveliness, & each vista is more wondrous than the last.
The ruins we have yet seen little of, with all the setting-up & organizing. What little I have seen seems to align with the general knowledge of the place - a city, no, a town, of great & concentrated magic. The oddest thing is that, within its borders, one feels a queer… tingling? It is as if each molecule in the body has been made more alive. This is of course fascinating, as no known magic can persist beyond the life of the caster. But then again, that is indeed the purpose & focus of our time here. Obviously, there is some mechanism by which this town’s ruins could remain cloaked for all of living memory. Would you look in the university library on my & Mg. Hawkins’ behalf with regards to any information on lingering magics, or perhaps folklore of unnaturally long-lived creatures in these

mountains? We would both be most thankful.
Let it also be noted that I feel no change of psyche. I feel entirely & utterly myself, just unusually invigorated & ravenous for all life.
Mg. Hawkins is doing quite well, and has overseen the construction of our base of operations with admirable efficiency. It is always quite fascinating to see how organized a magician can be when they put their mind to it, is it not? We now have a trio of cabins, quite well-appointed & comfortable. The first is Mg. Hawkins’ living quarters, the second is mine, & the third (& largest) is a workroom for Mg. Hawkins, as well as [scratch-out] an ad hoc guest quarters if there should be a need. I am ever grateful for the privacy of my own cabin, so that I may rest & [scratch-out, “rf”] reflect on the day.
I am hoping this letter finds you in good health & I look forward to hearing from you soon.
We are really open to canonizing fanworks as part of the overall story! We think that having an outside force speculating on the plot (even if the theory is wrong!) will richen the world & allow exploration of themes & ideas that wouldn't necessarily come up in Eris & Elowen's correspondence.
That being said, in order to make sure that the story's canon remains consistent, we've decided that we'll split fanworks into 2 categories, canon & non-canon.
We may interact with non-canon works, but we'll always specify that it's non-canon. We really want you all to feel free to engage with the source material & have fun with it! If we reblog something here because it's cool, but we're not integrating it into canon, we'll tag it as #non-canon.
Canonized works will be tagged #canon and may or may not be referenced by the characters in the letters. They'll also be linked to the Ao3 work, either through links in author's notes or through "inspired by" links if the canonized work is hosted on Ao3.
If you want your work canonized, here are a few thoughts to keep in mind:
The letters you are reading are private correspondence, between two people who are fairly anonymous in the grand scheme of things, and who would be fairly closed-lipped about their work. If you are referencing something in the letters, consider whether it would be public knowledge.
The magic system is not deeply discussed in canon, as the characters are very familiar with how it works, but it's more than a "soft" system. The more detailed you get in your magical technobabble, the more likely it is to be non-canon! We may consider writing a guide to the magic system later on. In general, this is a world where most magic is knowledge/education based, and the majority of people have a baseline level of knowledge similar to first aid knowledge here in our world. Magicians are doctors, but most people can put a bandage on. If it's a Cantrip in D&D, assume a random person can do it or knows someone who can.
We're very inclined towards canonizing "newspaper articles" speculating on the plot. In the same way that contemporary news can often be wrong about the truth while still being a primary source, your journalist can make speculation about current events, be wrong, and still be a primary source.
We ABSOLUTELY welcome plot-unrelated work! Want to write a faculty gossip sheet about characters & loosely tie it into the characters? Go for it! Same with diaries of characters not involved whatsoever, that are slice-of-life or speculative about current events.
