One of the things I rotate in my mind a lot is that we really don’t know how expressive Kris actually is. They have some movement of their own during cutscenes and we very occasionally get to see them reacting to the things happening (taking steps back when meeting Spamton, looking away at certain parts of the ch.3 videogame) but during the only times we see them be fully in control of their body their face is obscured except the one time we see them smiling. Like, look at how harsh the transition is in chapter 4 when they put the Soul back in! All facial and body expression gone inmediately. Of course Noelle would’ve noticed much less subtle changes if Kris went from very expressive to entirely deadpan (and from the little we hear about pre-Soul teenage Kris they don’t seem exactly like an open book), but honestly that doesn’t make it much better because how heartbreaking is it that you’ve been so depressed and drained of life that the people around you can’t inmediately tell the difference between your usual self and being possessed by an eldritch entity? And like, how many times do you think Kris would have reacted to something their friends did but couldn’t? How many times during the game do Ralsei and Suzie have a visible silly reaction to something while Kris stays the exact same? How much of that do you think is Kris’ personality and how much do you think is the fact that we do not have a button to allow them that movement? Don’t you think Kris wanted to play that racing videogame with Suzie in the greenroom? Don’t you think they wanted to drink that tea the old man offered? How pissed off do you think they were after Suzie thought they were joking about playing the piano?

There’s so much wonderful angst about Kris being friends with Suzie but Suzie not being friends with Kris because she’s never actually met them. But I think we’re not talking enough about Kris loving their friends so much but being unable to participate in so much, being forcibly pushed back into being an observer in their own life. They can sit down in front of that cup of tea, they can have a little cake party in the castle, they can change outfits to match with their friends for a minigame or sit on the couch to pretend to play a game that the entity controlling their hands can’t actually see so the racing car will crash every time, they can fight and they can flirt and they can watch Suzie develop a frienship with them but they as a person could as well not be there. Hell, we don’t even find out they exist until the end of the first chapter. We’re just using their body so we can do what we need to do, we have no capacity or reason to allow them to drink tea if they want to. They’re just a vessel.

Idk I’m a little feverish so this might not make much sense lmao, and it might just be my personal DID-haver sensibilities. But I’m so sad I want them to receive a hug (not from me that’d be scary for them) and get to actually hang out with their friends

Susie, that no friendship she makes will ever be genuine and that there is nothing in her really worth loving after all.

Ralsei, that there is no point in trying to defy the already ill-fated prophecy, because what if the alternative is even worse?
