My mom explained (not to the man, that man just got tackled with 0 explanation) that sharing challah with our family and friends is expression of trust and community and good wishes, so you don’t pull a knife on challah just like you wouldn’t… idk… pull a knife on your friends.

Also the way the bread gets compressed when you pull off a little section makes it taste way better.
