the saddest part about jumblr is that we cannot play jewish geography with each other without doxxing ourselves :(
like statistically im probably 1 or 2 degrees away from a few of yall. alas, i will never know it.
today i found out that the song telephone was inspired by gaga's fear of not being able to have fun anymore bc of the increasing demands the music industry was putting on her. 100 percent i thought it was just about not wanting people to blow up your phone when you're trying to vibe at the club. and it's about that too. it's amazing how art can have so many meanings

The (European) sun is a deadly laser, stay safe everyone
☝️🤓 it’s because the further you move toward the earth’s poles, the lower the angle of the sun is at the hottest parts of the day, meaning the radiation hits your whole body, causing it to feel 10-20 degrees warmer than the thermometer reading will tell you. People from tropical climes, aka close to the equator, are used to the sun’s radiation hitting a much smaller target- their head and shoulders.
Also the further you move toward the poles the more pronounced the difference between the length of day and night is. Worst part of a far-north (or south) heatwave is it doesn’t get dark long enough for meaningful cooling.
It’s not the heat. It very literally is the sun.
'The Little Mermaid' by Hiroaki Ikeda, 1971
hey real quick can anybody help me find this image that I’ve seen before here on tumblr. it looks like this
the button doesn’t necessarily say “Elucidate the Rapture” but it does say something that’s kind of lengthy and has religious connotations. the woman pushing the button has an expression of indescribable smugness. there might be other buttons on the machine (?) she is pressing.
FOUND IT
Oh this is only the first image in the Eschatron 9000 Series
and the finale, because of the Tumblr image limit
thanks this is part of an even grander incomprehensibleness than I could have expected
I cannot believe that this is a website where you can ask “hey i think i saw a weird image once” and put a bad stick figure drawing of it and someone will be like “oh yeah that’s the first installment of a 12-part post-ironic apocalypse fever dream photoshop series” and just hand you a dozen of the most unhinged images you’ve ever seen in your life, that still have a better three act structure than most modern cinema
I dont think thats the whole photoset…. I found one more
But from what i can gather thats Crystal Thierry, also known as page73girl. Who seems to have been a model for the now defunct biggestletdown.com…
But i have no idea when the eschatron 9000 pictures were made or for that matter the original photos that were used to make it
this is far more than “random person in 2005ish creates surreal visual narrative” - let’s go deeper down the rabbit hole, shall we?
to Immanentize the Eschaton means to bring about utopian conditions and create heaven on Earth
the phrase is first cited in the Discordian religious text, Principia Discordia (1963), for whom Discord (aka Eris) is goddess:
the first line of Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea’s 1975 The Illuminatus! trilogy: “It was the year when they finally immanentized the Eschaton.”
in Frederik Pohl’s The Eschaton Sequence (1997 - 1999), the human race is caught up in a galactic war between two alien races attempting to immanentize the eschaton
in Ken Macleod's The Stone Canal (1997), one of the chapters is “Another crack at Immanentising the Eschaton”
Crystal Thierry’s (aka the modern Discordia / Eris) narrative lives in esteemed company
I hate that the "x reader" or "x Y/N" style of fanfic has become sooooo popular, partially because it's just not for me and partially because they clog general non-fic related tags and those authors seem allergic to the "read more" function on this website, but ALSO because I believe that you should have to go through the trouble of creating an absolutely batshit self-insert character, with a backstory that makes no sense and a name that doesn't really gel with the aesthetics of the universe. Legolas and Aragorn should be in a love triangle with Kylie, the angsty sixteen year old half-human half-elf and inexplicable tenth member of the Fellowship. Do the WORK. If everyone was doing "Y/N" nonsense back in the day, there would be no Ebony Dark'ness Dementia Raven Way, or probably Bella Swan. These are important women. They deserve to be named, confusingly and with no regard for the fictional world they inhabit.
In general I try to tell myself that a big tent party with lots of competing but thoughtful ideas is a good thing for Democrats. And in theory I'm not always opposed to young progressive upstarts gaining traction. It's just a real shame that 90% of said young progressive upstarts are complete goddamn lunatics
zendaya as emma harwood , the drama dir . kristoffer borgli .
"what groceries u been into recently" is actually a great question, there's a bunch of good conversations inside it
I just don't think it's very funny for any member of the Democratic party to be anti-miscegenation when there are members of the Republican party -- currently in control of the Supreme Court -- who would love to overturn Loving v Virginia :/
The thing with Ta-Nahisi Coates saying he wouldn't have been able to stop himself from participating in 10/7 if he had lived in Gaza and Darializa Avila Chevalier attending a celebratory rally right after 10/7 is I think it's a good idea to believe people when they say they want to do violence against Jews. These are not statements and actions that are up for interpretation or debate. They are positioning the slaughter of Jews as justifiable and even morally good.
One of these people is a prominent public intellectual whose work appears in major publications. The other is running for Congress and is endorsed by the mayor of New York.
I don't know what will come of giving these people huge platforms. As a Jew, I don't think it's good. It's as bad for the general population as it is for Jews, but the fact that it's bad for Jews should be enough for morally upstanding people to resist their presence in public life.
Yet here we are.
Hmmm you know what, it’s time to tap the full quote plaque:
“In defiance of the hostile construction that may be put upon my words, I do not hesitate to say that our national defect is that we are not "tribal" enough; we have not sufficient solidarity to perceive that when the life and property of a Jew in the uttermost provinces of the Caucuses are attacked, the dignity of a Jew in free America is humiliated. We who are prosperous and independent have not sufficient homogeneity to champion on the ground of a common creed, common stock, a common history, a common heritage of misfortune, the rights of the lowest and poorest Jew-peddler who flees, for life and liberty of thought, from Slavonic mobs. Until we are all free, we are none of us free.”
- Emma Lazarus, 1883
For every Jew in New York that suffers, for every Jew in Israel that dies, we feel them. We feel them just as we feel each פסח, where we ourselves are liberated from מצרים, we ourselves must feel under threat. We must be watching and ready to supply support to our fellow yidden, however that comes.
Thoughts and prayers to my European mutuals suffering under their omega heat
