HEY MOBIUS READERS
Have you ever said to yourself: "Gosh I sure wish there was a fully casted podfic of this particular fanfiction"?
GOOD NEWS, because now there is!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Produced by the infinitely awesome @uppastmybedtimereading and voiced by several incredibly cool people. If you like podfics, go give it a listen!
tee hee I’m voicing shouta
there will be shameless reading of smut 😏
People of Tumblr!
I am reaching out to those who want to be part of a revolution! I want this to go viral, to trend, to reach numbers that are currently even beyond my comprehension. (Tbh, if this reaches 50 views, that will be more than I ever anticipated).
I am currently participating in a writing contest on Tapas. Their Action Fantasy Tourney, to be precise.
And I've worked hard. We've all worked hard! In two months, we all managed to put together stories with such a variety of content that people will be able to find whatever plots and tropes suit their tastes best.
300 participated! Hats off to everyone.
Then the first round of judging happened and the top 50 were chosen. Imagine my shock when I was one of the ones chosen. Once I managed to scrape my jaw off the floor, I eagerly set about getting ready for the next part of the contest.
The Voting... DUN DUN DUN
This period runs from Nov. 8th to Dec. 2 and the Top 25 will move on. Both the best and worst odds in the world. Nevertheless, I'm super excited and pumped to be part of this.
Tapas has worked hard to promote this, even running an event where you can earn ink (the platform currency) for reading these stories. They divided the stories into two groups to make it easier for readers.
Week One - They promoted and it went very well.
Week Two (my week) - there has been no promotion at all by Tapas, leaving all of us involved in the contest rather baffled. I am hoping that it's a simple mix-up, but at this point, our queries remain unanswered.
All I want is for everyone, all 50 writers who have worked so hard to make it this far, to have an equal shot.
All it will cost you is a bit of time. Please check out these wonderful free stories, like, subscribe, and/or leave a comment.
VOTE for the one you like best
Or simply repost this here on Tumblr so that the word gets out. Tag a couple of people who love to cheer for writers and amazing stories.
Much Love!

the weird neighbor next door
snippet that may or may not end up in the next chapter of accidental vigilante, which I'm actually working on today lol
Once upon a time*, the Midoriyas had a strange neighbor. He'd been a little squirrelly and hard to make sense of, but eventually things smoothed out and Izuku, for a time, had another adult to confide in and seek guidance that may or may not be the most sound advice and/or legal.
"Who the fuck cares if you lie," his neighbor scoffed right before adding on, "lying is bad."
Izuku had been used to hearing Jin's two-sided commentary, but he still blinked a questioning gaze up at the older man. A cigarette dangled precariously between his lips. Nicotine-stained fingertips reached up to pluck it free before flicking away a bit of ash. He stared at the glowing ember for a long moment as a curl of smoke wafted slowly through the still air.
Serious blue-grey eyes slanted in his direction. "Kid, the idiots out there refuse to look beyond the surface." He touched the cigarette to his lips and took a long drag. "No such thing as innocent 'til proven guilty 'round here." He puffed out a very precise ring of smoke, then blew the rest through the side of his mouth as they watched the silvery circle swirl in on itself. "Save your hide and lie your ass off. What are they gonna do if they find out, arrest you?" He rejoined it with a muttered, "maybe murder you." He grimaced and rubbed at the back of his neck with his free hand.
Izuku winced at the blunt warning.
They both knew that even if the police tried, the Commission had dug themselves into a pretty deep hole with laws and regulations that didn't exactly apply to people like him. It'd been the topic of many discussions: how he could technically slip through the cracks and—given the right support—legally get away with nearly anything with minimal repercussions.
He opened his mouth to ask a question, but from the corner of his eye he caught Jin's smirk right before those big knuckles rubbed against the top of his head. He ducked out from beneath the rough handling with a scowl.
Jin chuckled at him and shifted his weight to lean against the balcony railing. "See? Trust no one." He took another drag from his cigarette, the ember flaring bright.
Izuku leaned against the railing too, turning his attention to the late afternoon sky. His mom would probably grouch at him for coming in smelling like smoke again, but he couldn't be bothered to go back inside just yet.
Jin's advice made sense then, and it still does, so Izuku has spent the last several years carefully lying his ass off.
* One of the prequels I'd considered writing is about Izuku's weird neighbor next door, their brief friendship, and how that leads to Izuku regaining his self confidence. It would be set right after Izuku's released from the hospital following his 'fall' from the window. Mostly fluff, some helping each other out, a smidge of found family, and a happy resolution for Jin as he kind of gets his life back together with the help of the two kind neighbors that believe in him. He moves elsewhere for a nice job offer.
cgnd2 chapter 11 - the backup
so I wrote a new chapter for 'the cute guy next door might be in trouble' and never got around to editing or posting it until today. the following text is a deleted scene from the beginning of the chapter that I felt is just a bit too much info and it worked better to kind of just imply everything sucked in the chapter opening
Deleted Scene:
Hitoshi never would have guessed that his plans to drag Izuku from the elevator and into his apartment would go so poorly, instead being dragged up flights of stairs while hoping he can escape with his dignity intact. He sweats through the pain, gasping with every other step, wishing he could just… be there already.
He wishes he could teleport straight into the bathroom, where he can wallow in his own private misery.
He dreads not making it in time.
He fears the horror of that particular embarrassment right in front of his adorably handsome new boyfriend who doesn’t need to see something like that this early in their relationship, when they’re still getting to know one another.
He desperately wants to impress Izuku, and he hadn’t quite been able to turn away his help with last week’s bloody mess. If he could have turned down that help, would he? Knowing now that Izuku is somewhat competent with basic wound care, he might still let him fuss, but this? The shudder that ripples down his spine is a mix of personal disgust and the creeping sensation that his internal organs are about to go on strike.
He manages a quick text to Shouto. He knows he’s about to be out of commission for a while and kind of dreads what kind of trouble Izuku might get into if left entirely to his own devices.
Shrugging off his boyfriend’s fretting, he barricades himself in his bathroom, unable to think much farther than hiding before it gets worse. He’s not so far gone that he can shed his pride.
This level of care is just … no. He’s pretty sure he can handle it without Izuku bearing witness to this shame.
This horrible, disgusting, messy, shame.
Absolutely not hot, at all. A brief glance in the mirror before he splashes ice-cold water on his face solidifies that belief. He’s disturbingly pale, shaking and sweaty.
He slumps to the floor, curling into a miserable lump to press his cheek to the tile, hoping the pain goes away soon.
anyways, you can read the chapter update here:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
At 1am on a Tuesday morning, Izuku realizes that it all started falling apart after the incomplete class assignment.
Geez, this was teased that long ago? Here, have the whole 200-word teaser entry. I'm not sure where (if at all) this will end up in the fic. It's at 13k and counting, with much of the outline complete. super excited to get a bit further so I can start posting!
Accidental Vigilante teaser~
At 1am on a Tuesday morning, Izuku realizes that it all started falling apart after the incomplete class assignment.
(Finish your homework, kids, or bad things might happen.)
His side-project was important, following cold trails and looking for patterns to suss out fresh clues that might lead to the closure of old police cases. He’d intended to work on it as he had time, but then the disaster at Nighteye agency had happened and he’d found himself floundering with stresses related to the agency collapse, his former best friend’s death, and his (barely recognizable) face getting plastered all over the national news.
He’d meant to get back to it, but time passed.
The project stagnated.
Other, more pressing assignments came up.
And the side-project fell into the ‘maybe later’ bin that he ended up forgetting about entirely.
At the end of that year, his teacher docked him some points for half-finished work and gave him a short lecture on the dangers of abandoning the hunt in the middle of tracking prey.
…but Izuku’s poking and prodding drew attention…
—opened doors—
paved pathways to draw certain people together.
He couldn’t have known at the time—
but he’s beginning to understand now.

yea this me
my advice for writing dialogue:
be brave
if you can’t say it in one breath out loud, you should probably add some punctuation
for casual dialogue: can you imagine two people saying this at a local coffee shop?
people talk over each other and cut each other off in real life all the time. your characters should too
modern, conversational dialogue isn’t one person lobbing one fully formed, multiple-sentence thought at another person, and then waiting to receive one back
dialogue is filled with placeholder sounds — ehs, ums, uhs — and these differ by region, language, and culture
people ask for clarification and sometimes things are just, by nature, unclear. sometimes you have to let the characters figure out the disconnect even if you, the author, know what it is already
find clips and videos online of the people/region and listen to them! how do they talk? is it fast, or drawling? how can you convey this to a reader who may have never heard them?
one thing that i've also found surprisingly helpful is to write out the dialogue like a script before going back and adding your body language and action between speaking, i find it irritating and distracting trying to do both at the same time and it's easier to see the flow of the conversation when it's just dialogue (your mileage may vary on this depending on your writing style/process)
lines don't always need a 'so-and-so-said' at the end of every pause so long as you've established who's speaking and when, especially when it's a more call and response conversation
if you're conversation is turning into a large block of just speaking try to think and write what your character is doing just as much as what they're saying, fidgeting, brisk turns, running their hands through their hair all say as much as the actual dialogue and gives the reader a "break" from the conversation
- Read what you’ve written out loud in the intended tone. You will catch so many issues of pacing, flow, and what is/isn’t natural sounding.

me, replacing a character with another one in a half-written story that's been posted for months, all so I can murder the first character in a prequel story: no one will notice 🤔
the flour oneshot
the cute-guy multiverse grows. quick oneshot based on the question: what if Izuku asked for any ingredient other than sugar, which was the only thing Hitoshi happened to have on hand when the other stories start.
unrelated to either series other than me continuing to play in a sandbox with the same tropes i want to read and write over and over again lmao

Mirio and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad ... Time
Welp, here we go again. While initially intended to be a nice-length oneshot, the story started getting a bit out of hand. I scavenged the Mirio chapter from Glitch and tucked it away in here as chapter two, where it really belongs.
This is also not a very nice story.
This belongs to the Two Steps to the Left AU timeline:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Summary:
After the tragedy that befalls Nighteye Agency, a lot of things in Mirio's life start going wrong.
No one wants to tell him what’s going on, even when it seems like his life—or the lives of his friends and family—might be in very real danger.
His new quirk is still too much to handle, and if he has another incident he might actually lose his damned license.
Even worse, his thoughts have been odd lately, quiet whispers in his mind that don’t quite sound like anyone he’s ever met. He’s seeing strange things between blinks and getting chills on perfectly sunny days.
And when the few remaining survivors of the agency tragedy start dying under mysterious circumstances, he starts to worry that the people he should trust the most might not be very trustworthy at all.

'Anomalous' sneak peek, pt2, probably the start to chapter 2
Izuku is gone by the time he returns to his apartment with a few packets of Mei's little surveillance devices. He'd expected this, but he's feeling a little weird about the fact that Izuku hasn’t returned by the time night falls.
When midnight rolls around and there's still no sign of his new obsession little mystery, he decides to do a little snooping.
He steps out onto their shared balcony and peers into the darkened apartment. It wouldn’t be the first time he’s done a little breaking and entering to find answers to questions he hadn’t realized he’d had.
For this little anomaly to have shown up at his door begging for sugar of all things and be apparently immune to his quirk? There has to be some kind of setup going on here.
Maybe a commission plant? (Unlikely, but assuming everyone’s a potential threat has served him well for the last several years.)
Maybe a test from his benefactor to ensure he hasn’t grown lax in his awareness? It makes more sense. He’s been overseas in a variety of countries with much less stringent rules and regulations for nearly two years, now. It’s been a veritable vacation of assignments, and upon his return, the only thing he’d found in the assignment safety deposit box had been the address and keys to the nondescript safe house.
His first two guesses are that it’s either just a safe place to stay that’s not Mei’s couch, or it’s some kind of test by his shadowy employer that-is-definitely-not-Nedzu. But now that he’s been directed to live next door to someone that coincidentally has a natural immunity to his quirk? There’s a third possibility teasing at the edge of his thoughts, but he’s not sure what it might be just yet.
(Hitoshi has found that there are rarely true coincidences in his line of work.)
His neighbor’s apartment is utterly still.
Shi weaves back through his open balcony door, up through a vent, and across into the neighboring apartment to unlock the window leading into what he assumes is Izuku’s bedroom.
His eye twitches with mixed amusement. It’s too easy.
Maybe too easy.
He doesn’t drop his guard as he slips through the silent interior. He’s adjusted Shi's volume to pick up the faint hum of any powered devices, but the home is nearly silent save for a quiet rumble in the distance as the building AC cranks up.
There’s a sleeping laptop atop a small stack of paper. He eyes the ports on the side of the machine, contemplating if it’s worth wasting one of his piggyback chips to break into the device.
Maybe later, depending on how much information he can get out of him without resorting to more intrusive methods.
Shi lifts the laptop so that he can peek at the printed paperwork. He thinks it might be French. He takes a photo and runs it through a translation tool, and it turns out to be a really dry reading about poor (and easily exploitable) employee habits at a European company.
He narrows his eyes with consideration.
This kind of intel is pretty tame to most anyone that might come across it at random, but to someone in Hitoshi’s line of work, it’s the stuff he likes to know about prior to infiltrating a target's base of operations.
He carefully sifts through the closet and drawers, looking for anything hidden or potentially incriminating. There is a concerning number of long-sleeved shirts and hoodies when compared to the three short-sleeved tees he finds, two of which appear to be used for sleeping.
Strange.
Tucked away in the very back of his closet, he finds two button-up shirts and a jacket, which indicates that he probably has a pretty low-key place of employment. It’s doubtful that he meets with anyone important in person, but if that employee report tells him anything, it's that he probably does remote reporting for international clientele.
He doesn't find any secret compartments in either the closet or the drawers, but he does happen upon some private items he expects Izuku probably never intended another living soul to ever see. In various shapes and styles.
Hm.
Perhaps he shouldn't be so excited by the sight of someone's sex toys, but the idea of keeping this little mystery around on a more long-term basis is starting to take root.
He contemplates the merits of seducing this person that's drawn his interest. If his quirk doesn't work on him, then he has a chance of trying a real, safe, and normal(ish) relationship.
(Normal-ish? Who is he kidding... There cannot be anything normal about being in a relationship with someone like him.)
At least he won't ever have to worry about accidentally catching him with his quirk. He's intrigued by the possibilities, but...unfortunately has no idea how to go about enticing a potential partner.
Obviously, he can't go the usual route and pay for his services.
Hm.
He eyes the pile of innocuous reporting. Maybe he can pay for services, just of a different sort.
Request some similar work, pay him for services rendered, and ease him into a more physical relationship?
There already seems to be a perfectly functional chemistry between them.
He eyes the lines of notebooks along two shelves. He sidles over and picks one at random, flipping through pages of coded entries. He runs the tip of his tongue along his lip, feeling a surge of growing interest.
First, French intel on a company's weakness?
Now these notebooks absolutely packed with content that's written in a manner to discourage nosey snoops?
There are tables and calculations scribbled in the margins alongside a few illustrations of vaguely familiar support items with labels pointing to what he thinks might be weak points.
His heartbeat ticks up as his excitement grows. He's found something big. He snaps a few photographs and sends one to Mei, curious what she might say.
There's a beat of ten seconds before she blows up his phone with replies:
Mei: HITO
Mei: WHERE THE FUCK DID YOU FIND THAT
Mei: CAN I HAVE MORE
He chuckles and sends a few more photographs her way.
The intrigue builds.
here, have the next part. this might need some heavy revision with all the new developments, but i was holding off posting it anywhere while i work on Izuku's prequel vigilante storyline. As it's in full swing and i'm feeling kind, enjoy.
He tucks the notebook back onto the shelf and slips into the next room. It's filled with a mismatched array of well-worn workout equipment. Their brief interactions earlier seemed to indicate he's somewhat like a scared rabbit, easily herded into exactly where he wants him, flinching back from anything new and uncertain. But this stuff... he leans closer to the weight apparatus to check his most recent settings.
Hitoshi's eyebrows tick upwards. Surely not. There's no way this reading is accurate. His gaze flicks over the equipment, examining the peeling tape for any indication that it's been falsified somehow. He knows he's being dumb, but he cannot wrap his mind around the idea that the little green-haired snack of a man is capable of lifting-
He bites at his lip with a moment of indecision.
This is a terrible idea.
He knows it is, but Shi will keep watch for him. He slides into the machine, adjusts his position, unhooks the bar from its rest, and is promptly embarrassed by needing his capture weapon to rescue him from a weight that's set just a smidge heavier than what he normally lifts. He could build up to this with some warmups, but attempting this cold?
Ugh, he's a moron.
This confirms that Izuku a lot stronger than he looks, especially for a guy so much shorter than him. He hid it well beneath the oversized, flour-dusted hoodie he'd shown up wearing. Now, why would a smart guy work out like this?
Hobbyist bodybuilders tend to show off their hard work with plenty of bared skin and form-fitting outfits, not conceal it behind shapeless lumps of fabric. Summertime with the long sleeves of a hoodie would indicate either perpetual chill due to poor circulation, or he has something to hide. He briefly considers what he'll look like once he gets him into something a little more ...comfortable.
Hmm. Soon enough.
He saunters out of the room and down the hallway.
The walls are free from decorations. No indications of favorite styles of art. No certificates of achievement.
A single plant is tucked away in a corner by the balcony.
There are a concerning number of locks on the front door, but most of them look aged and well-worn. He suspects they've been in place for at least a few years at this point, and depending on when Izuku moved in, they might be holdovers from a previous (and paranoid) occupant.
This particular building has more than a handful of interesting secrets in place from what he's gleaned after letting Shi loose in the vents. *AN: This statement could be followed by a huge number of perfectly valid and appropriate-for-this-story statements that would spoil the shit out of Trouble. I’ll just leave it up to your imagination, and maybe one day I’ll come back and drop some extra details in there when it’s no longer spoilery, or maybe i'll just add it because it makes sense here and readers that are following both storylines just get extra context xD
The rest of the apartment is mostly uninteresting. The kitchen is decently stocked. Based on what he'd made earlier (which was delicious), the guy seems to do a lot of cooking.
There's a clearly worn spot on the couch, which Hitoshi sinks into with a little grin. This is Izuku's spot, which means... He scoots over a few feet. This is now my spot. Unless he's convincing Izuku to sit in his lap, at which point they'll share the favored spot while they share each other.
There's a strange lack of personal photographs on display throughout the apartment. The place is clearly well-lived in, so he's been here for longer than a year. There are no images of Izuku, nor of family or friends. No snapshots of vacations or parties.
He flicks on the television.
News.
-annual memorial services for the collapse of Nighteye's Agency have been postponed again due to a bomb threat in the area-
He hits the recent button to flip back to the previous selection.
It's one of those channels that runs documentaries all day long.
Hm.
He flicks off the TV and glances around the apartment. There's nothing to indicate this guy has much of a life outside of whatever it is that he does.
Is he a local? Is this apartment in the same city where he grew up, or is he a transplant from somewhere else, living away from those he might care about to keep them safe?
His phone buzzes with a new notice from Mei, drawing his attention from the odd mysteries of his neighbor's minimalistic apartment.

the blessing (the curse)
today i posted the angsty prequel oneshot where Mirio gets OfA and things kind of suck for everyone.
It was initially part of the oneshot Mirio's Terrible Horrible V Bad Day Week Month Year, but then I realized it would fit into both series if I posted it separately.
This is not a very nice story.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Summary: A few months after Izuku’s pushed fall from the window, Sir Nighteye convinces All Might who his successor should be.
Mirio takes the news with a lot of good grace and a quietly healthy measure of concern, which ends up being quite a lot of concern as things get progressively worse.
Maybe One for All isn’t quite as amazing as All Might makes it out to be…
intimidating
'tis but a scratch
this spoilery bit of content happens much later on in villain, and by the time we actually get there, that whole story will have been revised a ton to correctly align with the prequel content i've been working on lately.
I'm quite mad that i cannot figure out how to format this like i want to, so extra spaces it is.
With all the destruction i'm writing this week with Mirio's prequel oneshots, there was a joke about how he'd need to retire and run off to hawaii when he eventually gets rid of OfA, and I made the offhanded comment that he'd better run before Hitoshi catches him after Mirio hurts Izuku ...
look if you've seen half of the painful content i've been shoving at the server you'd totally understand why people were like OH NO IZUKU
look, here, he's fine(ish)
The beginning of the end, for Izuku, occurs on a sunny afternoon.
Or is it the end of the beginning?
With his hand tucked into the crook of Hitoshi's elbow, he hangs on with a quiet sort of joy at being escorted to the market for groceries. The tail end of his capture weapon clings to the back of his neck and trails beneath his shirt, smoothing over his skin in a slow pattern that never stills. They are in the middle of a quiet discussion about what they might make for dinner when Izuku notices the scent of ozone.
And then,
nothing.
He isn't usually lucid for these strange daydreams.
snips of screaming
blankness
overlapping voices
hey, look
come with us

destiny
When he rouses from his moment, it turns out it wasn't a moment. He aches from head to toe. His mouth is like a desert, parched and dry. There's a vague coppery taste in the back of his throat. His eyes feel like they've been glued shut.
He has no idea where he is. Things are fuzzy around the edges. There's a quiet beeping from his left, and on his right...
the warm slide of Hitoshi's capture weapon drifts along his arm. His hand twitches, wanting to grasp something that he knows is safe. If that's here, then-
"Izuku," Hitoshi whispers.
The knot of stress in his chest loosens minutely. He's here.
"Stay still. I've got you."
He'd really like to know where he is and what's going on, but Hitoshi's fingers pressing against his palm will suffice for now.
"You were nearly crushed by a hero crash-landing right next to you."
He quirks an eyebrow. Hitoshi correctly interprets it as a request for more information. "Hero's okay, probably. At least, they're fine from that impact. Whatever's wrong with them otherwise is a different story."
His brows scrunch low. His lips twitch into a frown.
"Lemillion."
The word is enough to make him choke on his next breath. The last time he'd seen that hero in person had been a terrifying day.
Twice now, though. Twice he'd had an encounter with the hero, and twice he'd had - well... apparently a rough day.
His lips part. He wants to ask for water, but no sound escapes.
What the hell happened to me?
An ice chip sweeps slowly across his lower lip.
"Ah, don't cry," he hears Hitoshi gently admonish. "You're already dehydrated enough."
Water drips between his lips, terribly slow. He wants to suck down an entire gallon of water, but he doesn't think he'd be able to lift a cup, let alone swallow right now.
"You've got an IV in with some fluids. It should help."
Where the hell am I?
He manages to crack open his right eye, but his vision is blurry.
Gentle whispers echo in the farthest corners of the room, so vague he's not sure he's understanding the words.
homesafehereours
no one better
mirio's getting two one-shot entries. the first will fit in both cute-guy and two-steps AUs right after the BK one shot opener and is like ... maybe halfway done. It'll contain several scenes that kind of set the tone before the agency tragedy. The second one will be only for two-steps AU, with his life further spiraling. :( :( :(
This is (currently) the opening tidbit for #1 but might end up getting padded / revised between now and then.
“You- you want—” Mirio’s breath is stuck in his chest, escaping in a little wheeze as he stares up at the long-time number one hero. “—me?”
All Might’s hands are planted on his hips with that picture-perfect megawatt smile plastered across his face. He’s the very image of the ultimate hero. “I have found no one better!”
Mirio doesn’t often cry.
The last time he can recall the telltale prick in his eyes had either been the news of his dad’s promotion or when he’d seen Amajiki’s face transform into sharp, fierce joy at his first intern offer letter to Fatgum’s agency (right before it devolved into horrified realization that he’d have to interact with people). Those are both good memories, filled with near-overwhelming pride and happiness for his loved ones.
All Might’s declaration should make him feel warm.
It’s meant to be encouraging and inspiring!
(…he can’t help but wonder, how long have you looked?)
He’s only finished his second year of training, and it has been two very long, very hard years. It makes sense to pick someone while they’re young, but surely there are other candidates with greater history of success?
He wonders if Sir Nighteye finally cracked and used his quirk to determine Mirio’s long-term future, despite his oath that he’d never use it like that again. Does he know something about how Mirio will turn out that this is the best option available?
Or does he just have this much faith in his intern?
He straightens, allows an easy smile to cross his mouth, and stares the greatest hero in history in the eye. He can feign self-confidence even if he’s feeling a little lacking while standing right next to this mountain of perfection. He still has so far to go, but with more specialized training under this amazing hero, Permeation could eventually prove to be a worthy successor to All Might’s immeasurable strength.
He’s worked so hard, and he will continue to rise to the challenge.
…Except, much of his hard work means so very little in the end.
