Ruby:Yang, have you been able to get in contact with Weiss? I checked her schedule and she should be on break from tour starting today.
Yang:Ruby, have you considered she’s dead tired?
Ruby:Even so, Weiss always puts on “do not disturb” like a crazy person. I thought she might be home, but her landlord says she isn’t. Could you just check.
Yang:Alright, but if she isn’t picking up for you then she definitely isn’t picking up for me. Or y’know, she’s still flying. *dials number*

A screen barely lights up a dim room as it rumbles face down against a nightstand. Currently, the scrolls owner rests unclothed and on her stomach in bed; the incoming call continues to go unnoticed and falls silent once again as Weiss’s face continues enjoying its spot on Jaune’s lap.
Thoughts have vanished for a while now, and her jaw is getting a teensy bit tired. As expected when you’re out of practice. Still, Weiss was exactly where she wanted to be, her mouth hadn’t forgotten any vein, and his fingers were still the perfect hair tie. Her fluttering gaze remained fixated on his calm dark blue eyes looking down at her. Two months sober from his taste was now broken and making Weiss dizzy all over again as he flooded her taste buds. A pink tint burned into her cheeks. She couldn’t believe how easy it was all going down. His hand sent shivers down her spine as it moved towards her neck and squeezed just tight enough for her to feel it, making her lean forward into a kiss that made the fog in her mind thicker. As their lips parted, Weiss gasped as Jaune slipped two fingers into between them for her to suck on. How strange; since when was her tongue sensitive? The way he massaged it only made her body more restless.
Those lovely fingers pulled her hair until she sat up on her knees, her chest rising and falling as she finished swallowing. If her suitcases being here and not home wasn’t enough information, Jaune could tell by her longing looks just how annoying her tour must be going. So many places. So many…decisions on her shoulders.
Jaune:Poor girl. Not a single word since we started. All those agents running you ragged; they should know better. You’re not a toy. Well, not their’s anyway. You know where the next load is going, don’t you?
Weiss’s heart raced and body radiated heat. There wasn’t a part of her that wasn’t blushing. Her head nodded slowly. She climbed onto his lap, wrapping both her legs around his waist. Weiss couldn’t help but hide her face in the crook of Jaune’s neck as she felt his hands grab her ass, raising her body up until she was dripping right over his cock. Thank goodness he was kind. Jaune didn’t tease at all. He just let her body sit down on his lap, sliding all of him inside. Nails dragging down his back kept her sane as he used his strength to raise and lower her endlessly. It took no time at all for every move to sound creamy and as eager as her mouth was moments ago.
Cracked, voiceless cries barely turned into proper gasps as she felt Jaune make knots in her stomach. The boys right hand took control of her hair again, making her look towards the textured ceiling. The sudden sensation of his hot, defiant tongue working its way up her neck sealed her fate and blurred her vision. Two months was too long.
Jaune experienced every muscle squeeze him down and watched Weiss tremble in bliss. He rested her head in his shoulders again, then thrusted up to hear a proper noise. Weiss’s hands didn’t know if they wanted anchor or distance as he continued to put her through her paces.
Weiss:W-Wait~ I’m still…
Jaune:So she speaks? Well then, how could you cum like this? All by your lonesome? I’ve been waiting too,
Weiss:I-I’m sorry.
Jaune:It’s okay. Just don’t expect any breaks, understand?
Weiss:Yes sir~
His body leaned forward, putting her on her back. Weiss felt his entire weight push down onto her, stealing her voice and thoughts again as he nuzzled his cock against the back of her walls. She could hear his soft and almost arrogant chuckles as he felt her mini orgasm. He held both hands down in his while his hips prodded and stroked freely to earn more embarrassingly wet noses from her body. There was no doubt he was completely coated in white with how he was churning her. His head rose and Weiss saw his face again. It was a little less calm than before, but still completely hypnotic. All he had to do was stick out his tongue to make her mouth open and wait patiently as she shamelessly swallowed the saliva that poured down to warm her throat. Jaune proceeded to stick the full thing in her mouth. Right now, there wasn’t a part of her that he couldn’t stake his claim to. If he wanted it, it was already his for the taking.
The creeping feeling of his throbbing growing stronger made Weiss’s toes curl. Her hands squeezed him for comfort as her body shamelessly asked for him to stay inside. Weiss somehow found the strength to slur her words correctly.
Weiss:L…ove you. I love you.
Jaune:Hehe. Be honest now. Say it properly~
Weiss:…Cum in me! I want it all!
Ever the pleaser, Jaune gave Weiss exactly what she craved, the both of them going over the edge this time. Ropes of white painted clenched walls for what would be the first of several rounds today. Weiss’s limbs remained wrapped around the knight as she caught her breath. What was a dominating weight seconds ago had shifted into a blissful hug she wanted forever, or least the next ten minutes before they got back to it.
For the third time now, Weiss saw his face. The familiar kind, gentle, and warm smile had returned. Although it only served to make her look away bashfully. It was impossible to tell if he was flipping his switch off or simply knew how to play with hers. Though she supposed he’s been good at the second part for awhile now.
Weiss:For the record, I do in fact love you.
Jaune:Hehe, I know.*kisses forehead* Does my girl need more attention?
His kisses moved to her neck, making her back arch to meet him. Ten minutes was too optimistic. She wanted him now! As a hand trailed down her face, she took the opportunity to gently bite his middle finger.
Weiss:Yes, daddy~
Jaune:*red* Careful. You might end up here all day talking like that to me.
Weiss:And? It’s not like anyone looking for us.
xxxxxxx
Yang:See? Voicemail. Give her like four hours. Flights gets delayed and she’s probably sleepy.
Blake: You heard her, Top or bottom? Hurry up and say it.
Weiss: *Pink* I.....i guess bottom? I’m perfectly capable of topping mind you! But Jaune has way too much stamina, and...... *red* I also enjoy the way he holds me when he's on top, it feels......warm, safe in a sense. But why the sudden interest?
Blake: *eyes wide* .......
Yang: *jaw on the floor* .......
Ruby: *eye twitching* .......
Weiss: What? *Turns to face them* Why are you giving me those looks of-
R_BY: *in their new room, standing in front of their brand new bunk beds* ......
Weiss: Ah......*bright red* Forget what I said.
Ruby: I would love to, but there's no way I can now!
Yang: *Widest of grins* Daww, the Ice queen can't help but melt in the arms of her knight in shining armor, that's sooo cuuuuute~
Weiss: *steaming* I cannot slip once in this team now can i!?
Ruby: You made your bed, now lay on it.......without my best friend on top of you please.
Blake: Especially now in the new room. Neptune uses a bucket of cologne and I swear his smell is more subtle than the one you two leave behind.
Weiss: I keep being told I'm too closed off and that this team is a safe space, but when I decide to be honest and open this is how I'm met!?
Ruby: *deadpan* Time and a place. Isn't that what you always preach to me, your highness?
Yang: *snort* If she had time and a place she wouldn't be spending on you sis.
Blake: She would’ve already abandoned us, her own team to get into the pants of the same dork she said she hated years ago. *Small smile, smug look* Oh Weiss, how far you’ve fallen....
Weiss: *bright red* I’m never opening my mouth around you again! You're the worst!!! All of you are!!!
I just want everyone to get back, and after awhile, Nora and Ren start picking up that Weiss is following Jaune more around.
Nora is many things, but oblivious to her friends’ interpersonal relationships she is not.
Hopelessly addicted to syrup in any form? Yes. Mostly only good for hitting things with a big hammer. Definitely. But no one can say she’s blind to the nonsense going on in the lives of her friends.
Especially when it comes to romantic leanings.
Weiss’s crush on Pyrrha, Ruby’s on Penny, Blake’s on Sun, Jaune’s on Weiss- Nora’s seen it all, been there since day one for every pining glance and wistful sigh.
She’d been the first to notice Pyrrha pining after Jaune, and then Jaune pining back until it all went to shit. She’s known since she met him that she’s in love with Lie Ren. And Yang and Blake could not be more smitten if they tried.
So it does not escape her notice that after returning from the Ever After, Weiss simply won’t stop following Jaune around.
Weiss isn’t the only one, of course. Ren, Oscar, and herself have barely left their leader’s side since he returned. Nora doesn’t know about the boys, but she’s more than a little scared that if she lets him out of her sight he’s going walk through a door she can’t follow him through.
Jaune all but admitted that they almost lost him. She can’t bury him again.
So she laughs and slaps his back too hard and ignores how he flinches and his voice cracks with time that didn’t pass. All smiles and fun times from Nora. That’s her job. Better to focus on a potential crush from the ice queen than the decades he spent mourning them while they mourned him.
Ren is better at emotions since his Semblance evolved, but Nora doesn’t want a shortcut. He could probably look at Weiss and figure out exactly what’s going on, but that’s not the point.
Nora doesn’t want answers half as much as she wants a distraction. This is the closest she’s been to normal since Atlas fell.
So espionage it is.
It’s going to take more than a war for Nora to forget the less than suave wooing attempts Jaune made in Beacon, or Weiss’s prickly shut downs of each try. So for the crush to be on the other foot…
Well. It’s interesting enough for Nora to want to look into. Jaune is her family, and he’s fragile these days. She loves Weiss like a sister, but if she breaks his heart, Nora will break her.
She just wants to make sure her intuition is correct. Nora of the past wouldn’t have bothered, opting to shove the two of them into a closet into the ice queen confessed.
There’s a lot of things Nora of the past wouldn’t have bothered with. She’s smarter now, and that wisdom was bought with broken knuckles on gold barriers and stone monuments on sandy hills. So she’s going to make sure.
Nora follows Weiss following Jaune from a discrete distance through an alleyway shaded with draped cloth, close enough to keep them in sight but far enough that she can’t hear what they’re saying.
She happened to be passing by as they returned from a market trip that Weiss offered to accompany him on, and decided to tag along. Nora isn’t an idiot, she knows a date when she sees one. Odds are Jaune didn’t, bless his heart, but (and there’s a twinge of guilt) after decades living in a storybook how good would anyone be at social cues?
Jaune says something off-hand and Weiss giggles, covering her mouth with a hand. She snarks right back at him, resting her hand on his elbow and smiling. The tips of his ears turn red and he grins, rubbing the back of his neck.
Nora’s eyebrows raise. She hasn’t seen him act this way since Beacon. Not with Weiss, either. With Pyrrha.
The duo’s conversation seems to meander into the more serious and their stroll slows to a stop. Nora ducks into a doorway. When she peeks back out, they two are just standing there, heedless of the crowd bustling around them. Jaune stands a head taller than most of the passers, and he appears to be frozen.
Wait.
Oh no.
Oh no! The crowd! They’ve been trying to get him acclimated back to people, but this amount is clearly more than he’s ready for. Gods what was she thinking letting him-
Nora is about run to him from her hiding place when Jaune starts moving. No… not just moving, he’s being shepherded from the street. Weiss has one hand on his back and the other at his elbow and is ushering him off the busy street.
Jaune is all but a puppet in her hands, shaking and distant, eyes a million miles away. Nora follows the two of them slowly, no longer trying to keep a low profile. Espionage be damned, if Jaune needs her she’s willing to endure Weiss yelling.
Eventually she finds them in an alley off the main road. There’s no traffic here, just a few empty crates.
He’s sitting against a wall, head between his knees. Weiss is next to him. Her dress is covered in sand and schmutz, but she doesn’t seem to notice. Nora watches as she takes one of Jaune’s hands and places it on her chest.
Exaggerated breathing, in and out. She’s letting him feel her heartbeat, Nora realizes. The hand that isn’t holding his is rubbing circles into his back. A breath in, a breath out. And all through it Weiss is keeping up a dialogue of murmurs.
Her eyes don’t leave him even as his shudders turn to full on shakes and he comes back to his body in a flail of panic, lashing out at perceived enemies. Weiss doesn’t try to restrain him, just keeps holding his hand and murmuring quiet words.
Jaune calms, and his breath comes back to him in a choking sob. He curls into himself even tighter, leaning towards Weiss but not touching her, and Nora’s heart clenches. What did that place do to her brother who craves physical affection like a starving man craves food?
Weiss shuffles closer and rests an arm around him (as much as she can) still holding his one hand. Her thumb rubs across his knuckles and Nora can see Jaune press into the contact like it’s the only thing binding him to the planet.
Maybe it is.
She’s intruding. This moment isn’t for her.
Nora slips away from the alleyway and back to the Academy. It’s not how she would’ve liked to confirm it, but in a way her espionage was a success. It lightens something in her to know her intuition was correct. Despite everything, she’s still Nora.
And she couldn’t ask for better hands than Weiss to hold her leader’s bleeding heart.
I just want everyone to get back, and after awhile, Nora and Ren start picking up that Weiss is following Jaune more around.

The Be Real Concert meme, but it's White Knight by Volume 9
Been seeing this meme floating around lately, and Proto-Saber gave me the idea to make one for White Knight. Not a full redraw like most folks seem to have made, but I think in a way it’s even better this way.
Honestly, I’m thinking this does a great job encapsulating the evolution of the ship up to this point in the story. Early Jaune being so excited about Weiss, late story Weiss being so into Jaune. It definitely goes both ways by now, but then again, we’ve also been given that wonderful ~mature~ line. And hey, they both sing! It just works.
Anyway, hope you enjoy this goofy little meme I put together.
Here it comes my second short meta on RWBY's chemical weddings. It is White Knight's turn! Feel free to skip the introduction, if you have already read it in my previous post (or if you already know what a chemical wedding is)
WHAT IS A CHEMICAL WEDDING?
A chemical wedding is a motif used in alchemical stories (aka stories, with symbols related to alchemy). It is a metaphorical union between characters and it represents two opposites coming together. Think of it as a motif that comments on a relationship and describes how it changes throughout a narrative. It shows how two characters' bond develops and how they integrate qualities of each other. Even if it is called "wedding", the union doesn't necessarily have to be romantic, but often it is. Like in RWBY's case.
RWBY uses chemical weddings to develop romantic relationships. How does the series do it? This meta by @hamliet explains it perfectly:
It uses some alchemical imagery (like plates from alchemical texts as reference)
It employs elemental motifs (water, fire, air and earth), which are keys to alchemy
It integrates other symbolism, like romantic subtext or fairy tale references
Both hamliet and I have already talked about RWBY ships and chemical weddings, so this short meta is just a quick review of White Knight’s ones, with some integrations.
Here are Whiteknight's posts, that I am going to reference:
Weiss and Jaune's foiling throughout the series
White Knight and Arkos (+ Whiterose)
White Knight's scenes in volume 9
White Knight's chemical wedding 2.0 by hamliet
Now, let's dig into White Knight's two (for now) weddings.
WHITE KNIGHT'S WEDDINGS
White Knight's weddings make use of this imagery:
There is a Mercurius (entity representative of change), who unites a man and a woman through impaling one of the two.
This is what happens to Weiss and Jaune twice:
In Mistral Cinder impales Weiss and in the Ever After the Curious Cat impales Jaune. Not only that, but both Cinder and the Cat make sure Weiss and Jaune indirectly hurt each other.
Cinder takes Jaune's heroic remarks and uses them as an excuse to mortally wound Weiss:
The Cat tricks Weiss into physically hitting Jaune:
These parallelisms lead us to two considerations:
The two weddings are inversions: this isn't any news because in RWBY the second wedding is always an inversion of the first. Still, when it comes to White Knight, this inversion is particularly through and it ties with an important motif of theirs. Weiss and Jaune are strong mirrors of each other.
Cinder and the Cat (our two antagonistic Mercurius) force Jaune and Weiss into specific gender roles. Both mock Jaune (the knight) and use Weiss (the damsel). This isn't by accident and it ties with the archetype explored by White Knight, aka that of the Anima/Animus.
MIRROR MIRROR = ANIMA + ANIMUS
Weiss and Jaune's weddings mirror each other in multiple ways. Let's see how.
Weiss and Jaune's first wedding starts with Cinder impaling Weiss and leaving her to die. Jaune rushes by her side and activates his semblance to save her. The whole scene ties in their respective fairy tale symbolism. As a matter of fact Jaune performs a miracle as Jeanne. Weiss instead gets resurrected by the Prince and crowns herself Queen Snowhite through the Queen Lancer.
Weiss and Jaune's second wedding starts at the end of volume 8, when Cinder defeats them both and reiterates their trauma. She forces Jaune to kill a maiden and targets Weiss to hurt Winter. She is also the reason why Weiss and Jaune end up together in the Ever After, where their wedding reaches its climax. In this magical world, Weiss guides Jaune towards self-realization and metaphorically has him fall, so that he can integrate Alyx and resurrect. Their interaction in volume 9 references another alchemical text, knowns as the Splendor Solis. Specifically, it alludes to this plate:
This plate has:
2 miners excavating a hill (a metaphor for making the stone from the prima materia). It is important that the two characters wear respectively a golden and a silver robe, which call back to the Sun and Moon
The Sun and Moon mirroring each other. The Sun is in the sky (air) and the Moon is in the river (water). They are opposites balancing each other
Eshter's story pictured in the frame of the pedestal. Eshter is a biblical character and the second wife of King Ahasuerus, who is determined to kill the Jews. Still, Eshter (a Jews herself) steps in, touches the King's staff and convinces him to let her people live
The plate's theme is the beginning (prima materia) of a union (sun and moon) through communication (Eshter's parable).
It is referenced here:
The Genial Gems create a giant white hill, which clearly alludes to the philosopher stone. Jaune and Weiss play the Solar King and the Lunar Queen:
Jaune is linked to the sun and masculine (gold), while Weiss to the moon and feminine (silver). They grow closer thanks to empathy.
In particular, their interaction is an inversion of King Ahasuerus and Eshter's. In the biblical episode, the King wants to kill the Jews and Eshter stops him. In RWBY, Jaune doesn't want to let the Paper Pleasers ascend and Weiss tries to get through to him (together with BY):
Weiss: Then why do you care so much about this village?! Jaune: Because I can actually PROTECT these people!!
Just like Esther touches the King's staff, Weiss grabs Jaune's sword:
Eshter's gesture is a symbol of intimacy and connection. Similarly, using another person's weapon in RWBY shows closeness.
In short, both weddings are rich of symbolism, but the first focuses on the fairy tale allusion, whereas the second explores alchemical imagery. This isn't the only difference, though, as the two situations are perfect parallels/inversions of each other:
In Mistral, Cinder kills Weiss to hurt Jaune, whereas in Atlas, she forces Jaune to kill Penny. Moreover, both times she negates Weiss's agency and uses her as a pawn to hurt someone else (Jaune and Winter).
In Mistral, Jaune and Weiss go through a crisis together, but they emerge victorious. In Atlas/Ever After, Jaune and Weiss lose, but grow closer as they come to terms with this defeat.
In Mistral, Jaune hurts Weiss because of his psychological issues, but saves her physically. In the Ever After, Weiss saves Jaune psychologically, but hurts him physically. Both are responsible for the death and resurrection of the other.
In Mistral Jaune unlocks his semblance (changes spiritually), whereas in the Ever After he becomes young again (changes physically). Both in Mistral and in the Ever After Weiss ends the wedding by unlocking a new summon. She conjures the Queen Lancer in Mistral and the Nevermore in the Ever After.
In Mistral, Jaune is led by Pyrrha towards his ideal-self, whereas in the Ever After, he is led by Weiss towards his real-self. Symbolically, he goes through two stages of the anima integration. From Pyrrha/Mary (devotion and idealism) to Weiss/Sophia (understanding and reality).
In Mistral, the resurrected Weiss unlocks her Queen Lancer, which is key to fighting Hazel. In the Ever After, Jaune integrates Alyx and is reborn after a trial of fire. Once he comes back, he is key in defeating Neo and the Cat with his plan to separate them. Both do not "win" the conflict, but are instrumental to its solution (Weiss through heart and Jaune through mind).
In general, both times Jaune and Weiss make important steps to integrate their anima/animus, which their bond represents. The anima/animus is the feminine (anima) and the masculine (animus).
In Mistral:
Weiss integrates her animus and summons a Queen Lancer, an entity which is both queen (feminine) and knight (masculine)
Jaune integrates his anima (feminine) by discovering himself a healer (traditionally feminine quality)
In the Ever After:
Weiss integrates her animus by acting as Jaune's Knight. She summons her Knight while fighting side by side with him. Moreover, throughout the whole volume Weiss looks for someone who can guide her home. It turns out in the climax she herself is the guide, the knight, who leads Jaune and the others to the tree. As a matter of fact she is the one who teaches the others the theme of "acceptance".
Jaune integrates his anima by accepting he is no hero (no Knight) and by realizing Alyx is a part of himself. He faces her and integrates her spiritually (her vision in the smoke) and physically (her knife):
In volume 9, both Weiss and Jaune regress and go back to their stereotypical selves. Weiss is stuck as the damsel and Jaune rusts as the knight. However, they move on thanks to each other. They are reborn.
WHITE KNIGHT= REBIRTH
The focus of White Knight is rebirth (coagula). In Mistral they get a victory and in Atlas they get a loss. Still, both weddings climaxes in resurrections. Weiss is reborn in volume 5 and Jaune is reborn in volume 9. Not only that, but after White Knight's Ever After wedding Ruby herself is reborn:
This renewal of the self is celebrated by a full Nevermore:
This marks White Knight's second wedding as their nevermore wedding, which has them overcome grief through love.
NEVERMORE
Weiss summons her full Nevermore in the finale. This Grimm is tied to both Ruby and Jaune.
It is symbolic of Ruby's rebirth, as it is the first Grimm team RWBY killed together and Ruby landed the final blow. Weiss is able to manifest it because by the end her team is whole again and Ruby is back.
It celebrates Jaune and Weiss's wedding, as our Lunar Queen conjures it after her interaction with Jaune. Their exchange is the pivotal moment for Weiss in volume 9, as she helps herself by helping Jaune. She teaches Jaune to forgive himself and learns to forgive herself at the same time. As a result, she unlocks this summoning, which is symbolic of the self:
Its glyph is in fact a mix of all the other ones, as Weiss is a sum of all her avatars.
Jaune too makes a decisive step towards the self:
Alyx: Maybe it’s time for a change, to be the kind of man you always wanted to be.
He accepts Alyx and gets a second chance to grow up as a result:
His new self has a white streak of hair to show he has successfully integrated with Weiss (white) and has obtained wisdom.
FROM UNCONSCIOUS TO CONSCIOUS
There is one final difference between White Knight's two weddings. The first has Weiss and Jaune's metaphorical union happen unconsciously. The second instead has this process become conscious. Let's consider this:
In Mistral Jaune instinctively activates his semblance and Weiss unconsciously unlocks her summon. Their actions happen because of internal and unconscious changes that are not elaborated on. They are quick transformations and the wedding itself is quick.
In the Ever After Weiss consciously encourages Jaune. By doing so both characters find a catharsis for their unconscious feelings. They make them conscious. Similarly, Jaune can consciously face Alyx and integrate with her. Weiss's own summoning is not quick and raw, but it is the result of a process that starts in volume 8 (when she fails to materialize the Grimm), goes on in the chess fight (she has the wings appear) and is finally complete at the end of volume 9 (the full Nevermore manifests itself). The wedding is also very slow and distributed throughout two volumes.
This choice makes sense, as Weiss and Jaune's dynamic is about them slowly realize who they are and who the other is. They have been each other's mirrors since the beginning and as they better understand themselves, they can better relate to the other and accept them.
Looking back, there's actually more symbolic foreshadowing for Whiteknight than I initially realised in the dance arc in V2. When Jaune goes to ask Weiss out, intending to follow Phyrha's advice about cutting out the bravado and just being honest about how he feels, he's holding a white flower to give to her:
But he then sees Weiss asking out Neptune instead, and realising she has someone else she's interested in, he drops the flower and leaves.
Essentially the flower represents his romantic interest in Weiss, but also a potential future of a relationship between the two based on mutual honesty and respect, (following Pyrrha's advice to just be yourself) instead of the false selves they project and initially see the other to be.
After this scene of dropping the flower he stops with his attempts to ask Weiss out altogether. Him dropping the flower is him dropping his romantic interest in Weiss, instead focusing on just being a good friend and looking out for her (convincing Neptune to go talk to Weiss because he knew it would make her happy).
But we see this flower transition into this vase, drooping and wilting at the dance:
...followed by a frustrated Weiss trying to perk the same flower up:
Which seems to foreshadow Weiss later on being the one to take a romantic interest in Jaune in V9, and also being the one to support and reassure Jaune when he's at his lowest:
Which does in turn seemingly cause that potential budding flower of their relationship to grow and bloom again, just as the two of them have been growing into their own true selves over the course of the series.
I hope you don't mind if I share some thoughts on White Knight, the dance and other RWBY ships I think are gonna be canon.
I theorize/headcanon we are gonna have 5 ships by the end:
Bumbleby, Rosegarden and White Knight as the main ships
Renora and Emercury as the secondary ships
I call BB, RS and WK main because the characters involved are all protagonists. RN and EM instead involve key supporting characters, so I consider them secondary ships. All these relationships foil each other, but there are structural differences between the 3 main ships and the 2 secondary ones. The dance is an example of this.
WOULD YOU LIKE TO DANCE?
The dance might foreshadow the final ships. In particular:
RN and EM go together, but they aren't "together together"
BB, WK and RG do not go together, but the relationships are teased or foreshadowed
TOGETHER, BUT NOT TOGETHER-TOGETHER
Nora: We're actually not "together-together…"
Renora and Emercury go to the dance together, but they are not together-together:
Ren and Nora go as childhood friends and fighting partners
Emerald and Mercury go as partners in crime on Cinder's orders
By the time of the dance, both couples have a strong bond, but they are not in romantic relationships. Rather, they are each other's family:
Never knew a time when you weren't by my side
The one thing I could always count on
Always there for me, you've been my family
Even when all other hope was gone
Emerald: Can I ask you something?
Mercury: You're gonna.
Emerald: Why did you come with us, the night Cinder and I found you?
That said, they already display some attraction, which is highlighted during their introductions:
Nora: We've been friends for soooooooo long! What are the odds we'd still be together? Well, not "together-together..." Not that I'm not saying that you're not handsome; you are handsome, but that'd just be weird, right?
Mercury: Whatever. You want me.
Nora is already falling for Ren and Mercury teases Emerald. Not only that, but RN and EM's first scenes loosely parallel each other. Both duos are:
Introduced as a set
Complementary
Ren and Nora appear for the first time together in The First Step. Nora is energetic and loud, while Ren is quiet and stoic. They are shown to get along well and to share a common history:
Nora: Right! What was I thinking? But still, I hope we end up on the same team together! Oohhhh! We should come up with some sort of plan, to make sure we end up on the same team together!
(...) I know! We'll have some sort of signal! Like a distress signal! A secret signal so we can find each other in the forest! Can you imitate a sloth?
Ren: Nora? I don't think sloths make a lot of noise.
Emerald and Mercury get their introduction in Best Day Ever, where they are immediately linked to their different motifs:
Emerald: Actually, I was wondering, do you have any copies of "The Thief and The Butcher"?
Emerald is a thief, while Mercury is an assassin (the butcher). They are two sides of Cinder and two sides of a "bad victim".
In short, both RN and EM are paired up since their introductions, they are fighting partners and have much screen-time together. Moreover, they share a common trauma:
Renora lose their hometown to the Grimms and survive together:
Emercury are recruited by Cinder, involved in her plan and finally dragged into Salem's inner circle:
In short, Renora and Emercury are two bonds that start as familial, but are slowly turning romantic (surely for Renora and probably for Emercury). This transformation happens through a separation:
Nora: When my mom ran from the Grimm and left me behind, you found me. We became Ren and Nora. But I realized on this mission apart, I don’t know who “Just Nora” is. And if I’m ever going to find out, then I have to do it alone. Because I’ve always loved you, Lie Ren, and that pretty head on your shoulders seems like it’s doing a lot better. But I still got to get mine sorted out before I can be the partner you need. Is that…okay?
Ren and Nora separate psychologically, while Emerald and Mercury physically. On the one hand Ren and Nora decide they must grow into their own people before they can get together. On the other hand Emerald and Mercury take different paths when it comes to the main conflict. That said, the two couples are clearly meant to reunite and they will do so as adults who discover the other as a romantic partner.
Allusion-wise we may have
Ren and Nora as each other's most beautiful flower (by Mulan)
Emerald and Mercury as each other's geenie and wish. Moreover, Emerald is Mercury's Emerald Tablet
AN INVITATION (BB + WK)
Yang: And if you feel like coming out tomorrow, I'll save you a dance.
Jaune: I lied! Weiss Schu-nee, will you accompany me, to the dance on… Sunday!?
Yang and Jaune invite Blake and Weiss to dance, but our Black Beauty and White Princess end up attending the party with different partners:
Sun is a foil to Yang - Both are linked to sun and gold, follow their hearts and wear their feelings on their sleeve. Moreover, Sun's role is clearly to be a bridge between Blake and Yang, while they are separated. He reassures Blake that Yang doesn't resent her for what happened at Beacon:
Sun: You think you're being selfless, but you're not. Yeah, that chameleon friend of yours got me pretty good. But I'd do it all again if it meant protecting you. And I can promise Yang would say the same.
Neptune is a foil to Jaune - Both are try hard boys, who think they must appear cool to be accepted by others. Jaune's confrontation with Neptune at the dance is deep down Jaune facing that part of himself he needs to outgrow:
Jaune quoting Pyrrha: Then just go talk to her. No pickup lines, no suave moves, just be yourself. I've heard that's the way to go.
So, Blake and Weiss don't choose Yang and Jaune as dancing partners, but 2 foils of them. This happens because the Vale Arc represents the characters' childhood. Beacon is a safe place where the protagonists can be kids and grow, while sheltered by the conflict:
Ozpin: Right now they're still children. So why not let them play the part? After all, it isn't a role they'll have forever.
As a result, it is a place of sperimentation both in fighting and in interpersonal relationships. Blake and Weiss are far away from figuring themselves out, so they choose immature partners, who mirror their degree of development by that time.
Despite this, the 2 relationships that get proper narrative focus throughout the dance are not Black Sun and WeissxNeptune. Rather, they are Bumbleby and White Knight:
-Yang opens up to Blake and shows vulnerability. Thanks to that, she convinces Blake to attend the party. Their interaction is commented by a light/shadow symbolism, their clothes at the dance are complementary (white + black) and Yang wins Blake's first dance.
Sun: Sooo, does this mean we're going… together?
Blake: Technically, though my first dance is spoken for.
-Jaune confronts Neptune for Weiss's sake. He calls the other boy out and encourages him to go talk with Weiss. He is the reason why Weiss finds herself with a knight:
Weiss: So, what made you change your mind?
Neptune: Huh?
Weiss: You said you were embarrassed at first. What made you come talk to me?
Neptune: You're looking at him. You got some good friends looking out for ya.
Moreover, Weiss and Jaune's bond is commented by the white rose symbolism you mention and by their shared queen/knight motif. Weiss asks Neptune out like a knight and Jaune wears a dress like a princess.
In other words, Blake and Weiss's relationships with Sun and Neptune don't change after the party. Rather, the bonds which transform are the ones with Yang and Jaune, who metaphorically bring Blake and Weiss to the dance (they make sure the girls attend and have partners).
In general, BB and WK are strong parallels and hit almost the exact same bits structurally. Here are some examples.
1- Both couples are targeted by a villain who attacks one person to hurt the other:
Adam: And as I set out upon this world and deliver the justice mankind so greatly deserves, I will make it my mission to destroy everything you love. Starting with her.
Cinder: Are you going to let her die too?
Moreover, Both assaults happen as parallels to Arkos. Adam cuts Yang's arm, while Cinder is about to kill Jaune. Cinder outright mocks Jaune by using Pyrrha, when she impales Weiss.
2- In Mistral, BB and WK have important climatic moments that tie with their respective allusions:
BB fight Adam in a scene which calls back to Beauty and Beast, the Jungle Book and Goldilocks. Adam dies like both the Beast and Gaston in the Disney movie. The song Nevermore refers to the song Evermore of the Beauty and Beast remake. Blake and Yang's fight against Adam mirrors Mowgli's final fight in the Jungle Book. Finally, Blake is presented as Yang's just right:
Blake: She's not protecting me, Adam. And I'm not protecting her. We're protecting each other.
WK survive the Haven's fight together in a scene, which alludes to Snowhite, the Snow Queen and Jeanne d'Arc. Cinder (the Evil Queen) kills Weiss (Snowhite), who is saved by Jaune (the Prince). As a result, Weiss unlocks her Queen Lancer (is crowned Queen). In this way, she avoids turning in a Snow Queen like Winter and expels the cursed mirror fragment from her eye (she summons the Grimm). Jaune is instead able to perform a miracle (bring a person back from the death) while at Haven (heaven).
3 - Both Blake and Jaune have their weapon (their self) destroyed by their personal villain (Adam the Beast and Cinder the Evil Queen):
However, they go through a healing process and fix themselves up:
They integrate a little bit of Yang and Weiss's colors within themselves. Blake's Gambol Shroud aquires a golden detail and Jaune's hair gets a white stripe. Incidentally, Yang and Weiss have an important role in Blake and Jaune's recovery:
So, both BB and WK are ships where one side is almost killed by an antagonist, but death is avoided thanks to the strength of the relationship. At the same time, the characters' arcs are parallels, complementary and tie into each other's allusions:
Blake and Yang are both Beauty and Beast. Blake is Yang's just right.
Weiss and Jaune are both Snowhite and Prince. Weiss is Jaune's angel.
DANCING PARTNERS (RG)
Ozpin: If you think about it, fighting and dancing aren't so different. Two partners interlocked, although one wrong move on the ballroom merely leads to a swollen foot.
Ruby has no partner for the dance and is uninterested in the whole event. She would prefer to fight Grimms rather than to socialize or dance. This behavior mirrors her immaturity: Ruby is a child and at the beginning of the series doesn't care about romance. In this scenario, though, Ozpin arrives and says 2 things:
He encourages Ruby to enjoy the peaceful times spent with others > This foreshadows Ruby's eventual romantic bond with Oscar. Ruby has no partner because her romantic interest has still to appear in the story. That said, she has a meaningful interaction with the person who will bring Oscar in Ruby's life
He metaphortically links together fighting and dancing > This foreshadows Ruby's role in Cinder's arc as her (platonic) Prince. The night of the dance Ruby "dances" (fight) with Cinderella just before Midnight. In other words, Ruby is set up as Cinder's eventual savior
Why are these two things linked? It is probable that theme-wise Oscar and Cinder will end up connected. In other words, it is possible Ruby will have to symbolically reconcile with Cinder to end up with Oscar. After all, these 2 characters are set-up to be important foils of each other.
As for now, it is interesting that a little after their first meeting Ruby and Oscar are shown sparring (dancing) with each other:
Which can be seen as a call back to Ozpin's words at the dance (and I think you yourself pointed it out in another post).
At the same time, Oscar is a foil to another character deeply important for Ruby:
Ruby: But at this pace, you'll be combat ready in no time! Suddenly, Ruby frowns upon mentioning her last phrase. Oscar notices this and tries to ask a question before Ruby interrupts him.
Oscar: Uh…
Oscar and Penny are connected since early on and in Atlas they have parallel arcs. Not only that, but volume 9 openly juxtaposes them as Ruby's past (Penny) and Ruby's future (Oscar):
Ruby's identity crisis reaches its climax the moment she is forced to confront Penny's past death and a possible future where Oscar dies because of Ruby. This results in Little (aka Ruby's child-self) dying and Ruby drinking the tea.
The metaphorical meaning is clear. In volume 9, Ruby leaves her childhood (Little) behind and embraces her adolescence (Somewhat). Similarly, she comes to term with Penny's disappearence (platonic imo) in Atlas, so that she can enter a new relationship with Oscar (romantic) in Vacuo.
This development is highlighted also thanks to a parallelism between RG and WK. Let's consider these two scenes:
The situations are similar. Both Ruby and Jaune are on the floor reaching desperately for their weapon. They are being attacked by a strong foil of Oscar and Weiss (Ozpin and Cinder) and taunted by them:
Neo-Ozpin: How many more lives do you have to ruin before you realize you’re not cut out to save anyone?!
Cinder: You're just a failure with a death wish.
Ruby and Jaune refuse their words in opposite ways. Ruby does so actively, as she reaches for Crescent Rose and slices Ozpin. Jaune does so passively, as he tells Cinder it is okay if he dies by saving others. The outcome is horrifying. Ruby unwillingly kills Oscar, while Jaune unwillingly inspires Cinder to impale Weiss. Both Ruby and Jaune are psychologically tortured to believe they are the reason why their loved ones die. Moreover, this moment comes when both are still struggling with another important loss (Penny and Pyrrha).
In short, RG is a well set-up ship, which strongly parallels the other main ones and is bound to receive focus in Vacuo. I would say it is the most intertwined to the main plot (Cinder and Salem) and the most thightly written (together with Emercury).
As per usual, Ruby and Oscar are parts of each other's allusions. They share the role of Dorothy and are each other's Ozma and Dorothy as a result. Ruby is also the Oscar's Little Prince's Rose.
THE LOST LENORE
“Wretch,” I cried, “thy God hath lent thee—by these angels he hath sent thee Respite—respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore;
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!”
Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”
The Raven
RWBY's ships (and not only them) seem to be about overcoming grief through love. As a result, they deal with death and loss in several ways.
RN lose their home and families, but find new love in each other (Kuroyuri means both curse and love). EM will probably lose Cinder by the end, but will survive together.
BB, WK and RG all deal with a heavy loss, which is overcome thanks to the newborn relationship:
BB > Blake loses Adam
WK > Jaune loses Pyrrha
RG > Ruby loses Penny
A past love/relationship must be dealt with for a new one to bloom. So, Blake and Yang face Adam and kill him. Weiss and Jaune must solve the grief over Pyrrha. Ruby and Oscar have to address Penny. Maybe it is because of this that the imagery of the Nevermore keeps popping up throughout the series and in some key scenes for some ships.
Nevermore
Nevermore
Will I be afraid
Nor will I run away
It's behind me
RN have a Nevermore ominously looking at them while the village burns
Blake and Yang sing Nevermore while fighting Adam. The song is an answer to Poe's The Raven. There the author cries he will see Lenore nevermore. Here, Blake and Yang affirm they will not let themselves be controlled by Adam nevermore
Weiss is now able to summon a white Nevermore, which is probably going to be important for her arc and her relationships with Ruby and Jaune
Whatever the case, the message is clear. The characters are not letting themselves be conquered by the "nevermore". They are fighting it thanks to their bonds (platonic and romantic) with each other.
WEDDING TIME
As you know, @hamliet has mapped down all the chemical weddings of the series. They are moments full of alchemical symbolism (+ fairy tale symbolism tbh), which are used to develop 2 characters' dynamic. In RWBY they seem to be used to specifically build up romances.
So far, we have:
BB (3 weddings): Adam cutting Yang's arm at Beacon, Blake and Yang vs Adam (they symbolically exchange wedding vows), Blake and Yang's confession in volume 9 (they consume their wedding)
RN (2 weddings): Ren and Nora meeting during the fall of Kuroyuri, Ren and Nora coming back to their hometown and killing the Grimm
WK (2 weddings): Cinder impales Weiss at Haven, Weiss, Jaune and Penny/Winter vs Cinder + Volume 9 ending (WK's second wedding seems like several small moments rather than 1 big one, so it might still be ongoing)
RG (1 wedding): Ruby and Oscar meeting in Mistral through Qrow. Imo volume 10 might start with their second wedding. This time they will meet through Raven and Ruby is gonna be the one who arrives out of nowhere
EM (1 wedding): Emerad and Mercury's confrontation in Lost. Their second one will probably be a real fight interrupted by Tyrian. By that point, Mercury will have to choose what to do
As you see, it seems each relationship is gonna have 3 weddings, where the second one is the inversion of the first and the final one is about integration.
A LITTLE FLIRT
All ships flirt in their very first scene together. We have seen it with RN and EM, but when it comes to the main 3, there is a little bit more. There, the character who falls first says a line, which shows they are unconsciously drawn to the other's real self. Even if they do not realize it yet.
BB- Yang compliments Blake's bow, which hides her Faunus trait. The piece of cloth is symbolic of Blake's shadow and what she hides. Yang is still too immature to see through Blake's mask, but she is attracted by it. It is meaningful, then, that during their confession, Yang openly praises Blake's ears and shows she can now see Blake as a whole.
WK - Jaune calls Weiss Snow Angel. It is used as a lame pick-up line and a joke. However, our Snowhite is slowly becoming a powerful angel to others:
As a side note, both Sun and Neptune mention respectively Blake's bow and Weiss's Snow Angel nickname. Not only that, but they are more successful than Yang and Jaune. Sun sees through Blake's disguise and Neptune wins Weiss's affection. That is because Blake and Weiss need to go through Sun and Neptune to end up with Yang and Jaune.
RG - Oscar comments on Ruby's silver eyes. This line has 3 layers to it. First, it immediately links Ozpin and Oscar together. Secondly, it is Oscar implying Ruby's eyes are beautiful. Thirdly, it shows Oscar immediately likes the trait Ruby's silver eyes represent aka her strong idealism. This is confirmed during the dojo scene, where Oscar says Ruby must be the best Huntress ever after listening to her hopeful words.
So, here you have it. Yang, Jaune and Oscar immediately size out Blake, Weiss and Ruby without really knowing. Btw, something similar might be present for RN and EM too and I might be missing it.
For example, I currently think Mercury's line "You want me" might serve as this. After all, Emerald is Aladdin and her arc is linked to want vs need. In other words, she has to realize what her real wish is. Well, we know her final desire is gonna be Mercury. So, yeah, Emerald wants him ;)
ARCHETYPES
Here we come at the very end of this ramble. I hope you enjoyed it up until now :) (I sure had fun!)
The cherry on top is that each one of the 3 main ships (again unsure about RN and EM) is linked to a Jungian Archetype:
BB- Shadow/Persona > The shadow is what is hidden, while the persona is what is shown. This is why Blake and Yang have a shadow/light motif. Fittingly, Blake is linked to the Shadow and Yang to the persona.
WK - Anima/Animus > The anima is the feminine part of a man and the animus is the masculine part of a woman. This is why Weiss and Jaune's shared motif is that of knight/queen. Not only that, but the animus/anima archetype is associated with the White Phase in alchemy aka Weiss's stage. Incidentally, Jaune is linked to the Rainbow Phase, which is a part of the White Phase itself.
Rosegarden - Self > The self is the combination of all other archetypes and here it is declined in macroshom and microchosm. This is why Ruby and Oscar's shared motif is inside/outside. Obviously, this archetype is also linked to the red phase aka Ruby's stage.
Short White Knight: Sometimes, a hug can make your day better.
Jaune opens The Door. Its still 8pm but he feels like all weight of the world is on his shoulders. Work on Beacon today was harsh.
Jaune: Im home.
Weiss: Welcome home. *she comes from The bedroom, kissing Jaune in the cheek* How was work today?
Jaune: Tiring. *He puts his mallet beside The Sofa.* I feel so tired... This was a very bad day.
Weiss: How so?
Jaune: First someone tried to steal The mallet, then i had to deal with Cardin, and Yang accidentaly punched my guts and-
suddenly, Weiss hugs Jaune. He looks at her confused, until she says:
Weiss: Ruby always says a hug can make a day go better. *she looks at him* How do you feel?
Jaune: To be honest? *He hugs her back* i think i need more time like this.
Weiss Smiles, as Jaune lifts her from The ground, hugging her with need. They dont care about how many time they are like this. They just care about embracing and comforting eachother.
Saphron: Yeah, how did she become your girlfriend, hell I’m amazed you even got a date with her let alone the fact you’re going steady! How the hell did that happen?!
Jaune: Oh we had these series of… odd encounters. They kept piling up on each other that she asked me on a date to… ‘silence me.’
Saphron: Did she think you we’re going to blackmail her?
Jaune: I would never dare do that to anyone. But, Weiss thought I would. I said no, like, a dozen times to get through her head that I wouldn’t do anything. But, she wanted a date so we went on a date, and well… here we are.
Saphron: Seems rather anticlimactic.
Jaune: we’ve had… a lot of moments…
Saphron: So, what was it?
Jaune: What was what?
Saphron: The embarrassing moment that started it all, what was it?
It's The year of The Rabbit and a certain Snow Angel decided to be a Snow Bunny much to Jaune's surprise (Art by LainArt)
Jaune is checking the calendar in his room.
Jaune: It seems that this Chinese year will be the year of the dragon. I should prepare something to celebrate.
*BAM!* The door to his room burst open.
Jaune: What the?!
Weiss: Don't even think about starting to plan that.
Jaune: Weiss?! *Blushing* What are you wearing?!
Weiss: My bunny costume of course.
Jaune: Why are you wearing that?
Weiss: Because it's still the year of the rabbit, duh.
Jaune: I mean, why are you wearing it now?
Weiss: I wanted to wear it sooner but when I ordered it the shipping was delayed and then it didn't came in my size, I had to adjust it, and here I am. Do you like it?
She says while posing adorably in front of him.
Jaune: *Quietly* You look so good~
Weiss: What did you say?
Jaune: I-I said, your costume looks good.
Weiss: *Smiling* Thank you~ I really like this, buy my only problem I have with this costume is the back.
Jaune: Like the zipper?
Weiss: No, my butt. Look.
Weiss turns around showing her big ass to Jaune. She puts her hands on each cheek and stretches them a little.
Weiss: It's very tight down here.
Jaune: (MY OUM!!) I-I see...
Weiss: And I also feel like it makes my ass look bigger, don't you think?
Jaune: I-I mean *Ahem* I mean, respectfully, it looks (So fucking delicious!~💕) good.
Weiss: Are you sure? Just look closer
Weiss says as she walks backwards towards Jaune. Her ass bouncing with every step she takes.
Jaune: I-I'm fine from here, t-there's no need to do that. (My God! If she gets closer, I may…)
Weiss: At least feel it…
She says while she bumps her ass against his pelvis.
Jaune: 😳❗️
Weiss: Doesn't it feel a little... tight?~💕
She says it as she rubbed Jaune's bulge with her ass.
Jaune: W-Weiss, what are you doing?
Weiss: I don't know. What does it look like I'm doing?~💕
Jaune: I-If you do this I would get the wrong idea. (Is this really happening?!)
Weiss: Maybe I want you to think like that~💕
Jaune: Weiss, you....
Weiss: I need you to take care of this Bunny,...
She takes his hands, puts them on her belly and slides them up until they stop on her modest chest.
Weiss: ..Daddy~💕
Jaune:...
Moments later
*PLAT!PLAT!PLAT!PLAT!PLAT!PLAT!PLAT!PLAT!*
Weiss: 💕OH DADDY, I'M CUMMING!!!!💕
Jaune has Weiss on all fours, pulling her hair while fucking her hard and eager. With each thrust Weiss's soft ass bounces erotically. It's a tremendous force that she clings to the bed sheets to keep herself in place.
Jaune: You're going to be a good little bunny and get pregnant for me, right?
*Smack!*
Weiss: Mmm!~💕 Yes Daddy!💕 I want your babies!💕
Jaune: Good girl~ Now... Fuck~... get ready. I'm about to cum.
*Smack!*
Weiss: Ah!~💕 Yes!!💕 Cum!💕 Cum inside me!!💕 Fill me up!!!💕
Jaune: Oh Fuck!
Jaune pushes Weiss's head to the ground, as he throws all his weight into her. Thrusting his cock deep inside her.
Jaune with that anime protagonist energy when it comes to signals from the women in his life. Some might say he acts as a stand-in for the audience (I’m sorry guys, just joshing you). Well, this time Weiss has decided to take drastic measures to finally convince Jaune!
I've got to say, I think the pictures they (I) chose for each other as their contact pics are awfully cute.
The way canon is going, the future certainly looks bright, with the two having expressed both attraction and admiration for each other’s character, and given us more than a few examples of love language between them I might suggest. The winds are with the SS White Knight, full steam ahead!
This meme was brazenly stolen from inspired by a post from u/The-Goofball and the subsequent comment by u/Akumu_Oukoku which may be found here. I’d like to especially thank Akumu Oukoku for allowing me to use their dialogue most thoroughly.
Everyone likes a good Jaune should keep his beard joke, amiright? I had to get you all a little holiday present after all. But like, I made a whole storyboard for this one! 12 separate panels, it’s a real comic even! Put a ton of editing into it. Always got to go above and beyond for White Knight, love ‘em. Listening to .hack music helped me power through the grind!
Panel 7, 8, and 10 were a lot of work in particular. Cutting Oscar out of the scene, and especially color correcting Weiss took a lot longer than expected. Pretty much had to redraw her entirely in those later panels. That comes with the territory of having chosen character stills from the Haven fight, but we deserve the extra effort. Speaking of, I got to say there’s something poetic about taking the most traumatic event for a Weiss fan and turning it into the most traumatic event for a White Rose fan (I’m sorry, guys. Just kidding around).
As someone that doesn’t know what they’re doing, this was a lot of work figuring out what tools I needed and how to use them on photoshop. My photoshop expiring 2/3 of the way through and making me switch over to gimp and learn it all over again with a new software compounded all those difficulties, which is why we might see a few corners being cut once we hit panel 9.
