fellow usamericans just a small reminder (bc I feel like I need to hear it rn) that the primary elections are still a thing and we shouldn't have to settle for less just because the pres sucks rn. I feel like the vast majority of democratic voters are less than pleased with the current genocide enabling state of affairs so really. we should pick another candidate, (someone younger and less prone to do literally nothing for 4 years of presidency ideally,) and vote them for pres candidate. we got a good chance of being heard I think. and then we should vote them into potus power with a swiftness. numbers that blow the last election out the water. check your voting status y'all they tryna silence our voices more than ever but if we can make some sort of change at the polls we should damn well try fr

Look into Claudia De La Cruz!!!

Apparently Cornel West has some shady history so most people I see discussing 3rd parties have already moved on from him in favor of Claudia De La Cruz.

Marianne was a decent option before Claudia/Karina got on the ticket. But Claudia lacks the same off-putting "woo woo" beliefs and she has solid knowledge of politics, human rights, and workers rights. A better option.

She's running with the Party for Socialism and Liberation.

I have some history with PSL. In my experience they aren't perfect; they speak over people they shouldn't.

But they also organize, fight for human rights, and her party has more backing and support from it's members than the other parties do.

And no they aren't perfect, but I have better experiences with them protesting beside me than the experiences I have with the Biden supporting police who stopped protests.

When I say "my ADHD wouldn't be a disability if society was structured differently," I don't mean that my physical brain structure/chemistry would somehow change the moment capitalism went away. I mean we as a society could choose to accommodate it to the level we accommodated nearsightedness to the point where most people don't think of it as a disability anymore.

To use this metaphor, imagine if in order to access help for your nearsightedness, you had to endure years of people not believing you're nearsighted because they don't believe anybody is near sighted, and you are just faking it for attention and the privilege of always sitting up front. And if you do manage to get help, you have to go to the eye doctor every 30 days for new glasses because they're not allowed to give you a prescription for longer than that. And the government is creating an artificial scarcity of glasses because they think too many people are lying about needing glasses. And when you try to push through and you make a bunch of mistakes because you can't see, it's all your fault. And because you can sorta see when you squint your eyes really hard, you're expected to do that all the time while keeping up with everybody who can just see well.

Disability is not just about what's going on in your brain and body, it's about societal response to it. Do we believe it even exists as a problem? Do we moralize having the problem? Do we have the ability to accommodate it? Do we follow through on those accommodations without complaint? Or do we throw up further obstacles? This is so much of what separates divergence from disability.

I worked with a lady who’s husband made more than enough to support them both.  She just did the retail to have something to do with herself part-time.

There’s a lot of people who’d happily do the same sort of thing.  Honestly?  A lot of the jobs we consider “shitty” jobs?  Are shitty because the employees are treated like garbage.

If employees weren’t being screwed over by people higher up the chain constantly or being forced to kiss the asses of customers currently shitting all over them, those jobs would by and large be a whole lot more bearable, and appealing to more people!!

I’d like to add a footnote to this thread that the US gives more money (by way of the income tax reduction) to homeowners than it does to poor people who need subsidized housing.

My best teacher in high school was the guy who had previously made a ton of money that he could’ve retired at like 30. Man just wanted to teach teenagers.

If people as a whole were handed enough money to live on, maybe more people like him wouldn’t be put off by the poor salary teachers make. (also teachers should be paid a lot more)

There's also this assumption that if people were just handed enough money to live that they'd do absolutely nothing, as if they'd be satisfied being completely bored all the time. They'd still buy food. They'd still buy video games. They'd still go out and get coffee and put money into the economy even if they didn't want to work because they still want to LIVE. They'd buy movies. They'd go DO stuff. I review comic books on the internet and I love doing it, but I often have to compromise on some things because I just can't afford to do otherwise and I stress out about stuff because I need to earn money.
