Learning the heights of actors is always weird to me.
Like what do you mean Ilya Rozanov (Connor Storrie) and Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) are only an inch taller than me???
I’ve been picturing them as like 6”3?!
Edit: lmao just looked up Francois Arnaud’s height and he’s 6”2. Ilya would be so mad XD.
I know lots of hockey players aren’t actually that tall but I’m used to my brother who’s like 6”4.
So I read 5 Times Ilya Was Confused by a Canadianism by ARustySpork link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/76244656/chapters/199538781 and I am obsessed.
As a Canadian I need Ilya to react to weird little Canadian things and I have made a list! Some of these featured in the fic and some are my own ideas.
Maybe one day I’ll write the fic.
Here are things I would love to see Ilya react to:
Money: Toonies and loonies, I wanna see him react to a loonie and the fact that it’s the stupid wolf bird sooo bad.
Our fuckass mix of imperial and metric systems
Tim Hortons: Specifically the colloquial use of double double
Saskatchewan, just, Saskatchewan
Snowy halloween
House hippos
Newfoundland accent
Food: Chips: hickory sticks and all dressed, he’d probably like ketchup too, butter tarts, beaver tails, Wild strawberries/ Saskatoon berries/huckleberries (this is more a city kid thing since he grew up in Moscow and meanwhile us rural kids were just eating free berries)
Telefrancais- specifically l’anana
The spelling, I feel like he’d get mad that America and Canada spell differently and arbitrarily
Marineland and Marinelands Jingle. I love that I still know that damn jingle despite living on the opposite end of the country.
Alberta: Banff, I want to put them in Banff. Also Albertans driving at 14. Ilya hears about drumheller and makes Shane take him so he can send Dino pics to Scott Hunter
The Pike kids shall be my vehicle for many 2000s kid things: Terry fox run, kids shows, lockdowns in school
DARE- Shane’s gotta bring this up
Canadian double negatives “yeah no”
Canadian geese
Bagged milk

So here’s the story about a crash-out I was having about if my memory was reliable or not.
As with all things this started with fanfiction and my weird addiction to accuracy and detail.
I’m writing a heated rivalry plane crash fic where Shane’s plane crashes on the way from Vancouver to Ottawa. In an incredible coincidence when I looked up the flight path for this flight I discover it flies DIRECTLY over my house in the Rocky Mountains so I decided to make the plane crash there since I’ve hiked those mountains and can describe it accurately.
Then I remembered.
There has already been a plane crash near my house making this fic totally plausible. I’m pretty sure it was a small private plane and I vaguely remember where the crash site is. So I decide to try to find the details on the internet.
I cannot find ANYTHING. I was looking up flight incident lists, not a thing. I can find details of other flights that crashed nearby but not the specific one I’m looking for. I genuinely thought I was hallucinating.
So I call my grandparents and ask if they remember there being a plane crash, they say yes. I do not just trust one source. So I ask my dad and he also says yes. All of them remember the location of it too.
So… evidently there was a plane crash that just does not exist on the internet I guess (it would’ve been a very small plane a good number of years ago). Realistically there should be an aviation safety report on it but I cannot find it.
Anyways hopefully I’ll finish the fic soon enough.
So like all of us I have been obsessed with heated rivalry. The one thing that I will preach about until the end of the earth is the phenomenal acting in this show. Both Connor and Hudson portray the characters so well and there is such nuance and subtlety in their performances.
Shane’s portrayal and Hudson’s acting in particular is a soft spot for me. I’m autistic and I think the loving dedicated portrayal of Shane and his autism is spectacular and means the world to me. It’s never stated out loud and that matters because for some people, like me, it’s just the feeling that you’re just not quite the same as everyone else but you don’t actually know what it is. You can so clearly see that with Shane and I am so stunned by how well Hudson can portray such emotion that I know exactly what’s going on in Shane’s head at all times. It truly is such an amazing job and Hudson is incredibly talented.
So thank you, Hudson Williams, Rachel Reid and Jacob Tierney for giving the world this character.
I will post more about the Superman movie but I haven’t seen anyone mention this.
Lois’ apartment at the start of the movie and the apartment Clark and Lois have the conversation with the inter dimensional mite in the background are different apartments meaning the second one is probably Clark’s?
But from what you can see it’s clearly a much bigger more modern apartment than Lois’ but it really doesn’t seem like that would match Clark??? For one where would he get the money? And for two I don’t think boy scout farm boy Clark Kent would decorate an apartment that way?
Anyways please tell me if anyone else noticed this and has opinions.
Jayvik Art I made before act III came out that weirdly sorta predicted act III.
Roy Mustang Underestimated
I’ve gotten back into FMA/FMAB and as I’m reading fanfiction I’ve remembered one characteristic of Roy Mustang I really enjoy. He tends to play the fool to make people underestimate him. He does this in canon constantly where he mainly downplays his intelligence by pretending to be a playboy and a flirt, but it’s really fun when he does so in crossover fanfiction because people underestimate his alchemy. It is so satisfying to see Roy play up his charm and fool people into underestimating both his intelligence and his abilities and then have him bring his abilities out in full force at the opportune moment.
I also like to theorize that he downplays his alchemy ability in canon too because manipulating gases with precise control has to be really fucking hard, even if it is specialized. I like to think he’s got some more alchemy tricks up his sleeve.
Hualian Height Difference
I gotta say this, the height difference between Xie Lian and Hua Cheng is greatly exaggerated.
I'm 178cm (Xie Lian's Height) my brother is 194 cm (Hua Cheng is 190cm) I come up to his nose. While it is still a significant difference they are by no means as different in height as they are drawn in most depictions.
I will say the height difference makes for very good hugs though.

The Batman 2022 Reaction
*Maybe spoilers ahead, beware*
So I went and watched The Batman this week and I wanted to share some of my reaction.
First of all I am not a massive batman fan, sure I like him, but I’ve always been more focussed on the robins and I haven’t exactly read any batman comics so fair warning I’m not an experienced batman fan. (I haven’t watched the other batman movies either so I guess I don't have bias?)
I however do like movies and also know enough about batman to a certain extent.
So I thoroughly enjoyed The Batman as a movie, the movie exudes murder mystery/detective movie vibes combined with the thrill of a serial killer movie. You get to see batman be a real detective in this movie and it is very interesting to watch. It was a great movie, the catwoman batman dynamic was great. Bruce Wayne took a back seat to batman but that was honestly perfect for the tone of the movie and the villain and suspense were great. The soundtrack as well was very fitting and made for a suspenseful thriller of a film.
It was a great movie so keep that in mind now that I move on to the things that I thought could have been improved.
Starting off with characters: Overall Batman was portrayed amazingly, Robert Pattinson did a great job and batman was intimidating and fun to watch. I wish there was a little bit more of a Brucie Wayne feel when Bruce is in public but considering this was a still young Bruce it was fine. Alfred on the other hand just didn’t really click. Alfred is a great character and I cant really pinpoint what it is but I dont love the Alfred in this movie. Catwoman was also fun to watch and interesting. The other characters that I want to point out as very good were penguin, who felt exactly right, and riddler who was completely different from his comic book self but captivating. Feeling very similar to the zodiac killer in this movie you can see what a terrifying villain he can be.
Next up cinematography: This film was shot dark and dingy and as always, that’s perfect for batman. A lot of the shots of Gotham also portrayed just what the city should feel like being the gothic place it is.
Soundtrack: I liked the ominous music it is an instant like however I would have liked to see more variety and maybe some light motifs which could combine into some really interesting songs.
Finally some parts that I just really liked about the movie.
Costumes!!! I’m all about practicality and batman and catwoman’s costumes were well within that. Catwoman’s simple leather catsuit, with no obvious sexualization of the actual costume that I can remember, was simple and practical and just an absolute serve of a look. Batman as well has a very great costume, the cowl looks perfect, the cape is simple yet with just enough flare and no molded abs. I especially liked the wing suit as a practical way of gliding off of buildings. Also combat boots!!!
Now that I’ve mentioned the boots I think that i must mention one of my favourite little bits in the movie where you hear batman’s approaching footsteps out of the darkness. It was intimidating and gave batman a whole new feel to him. The little clink with his slow steps sounding reminiscent of a sherif coming to serve justice.
Also cant leave without mentioning the batmobile. It’s entrance was awesome and whoever did the sound design for it knew what they were doing.
Well, there you have it, my opinion on the new batman movie. Sorry if this was long but I wanted to put my reaction in words. I also tried to stay relatively vague so no big spoilers here.
So now that Andrew Garfield’s Spider-man is getting popular again I will say what I think originally went sort of wrong with the amazing Spider-Man movies and how they could’ve been amazing if some different choices were made.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate the amazing spider-man movies, I just think they could’ve been done better. I believe Andrew Garfield is a great cast for Peter Parker, just not the one they tried to portray in the movies. He would be a perfect fit for a more grown up/adult peter from the comics. Specifically the Peter from the amazing Spider-man comics from 2015 to 2016.
If you haven’t read the comics, this Peter is more similar to the way Andrew’s Spider-man was portrayed in No Way Home or similar to Peter. B Parker from Into the Spiderverse. If the amazing spider-man movies had portrayed this peter I think they would have arguably been the best Spider-man movies compared to the comics and also would have been more unique than any of the other portrayals we’ve had in film.
To be fair, to pull this off you’d have to change the whole aesthetic of the movies since they’d need to be a bit more lighthearted and goofy, yet still serious enough.
Also if you want to see why I think Andrew Garfield would have been perfect to play adult Peter Parker just look up the spider-man comics written by Dan Slott and illustrated by Humberto Ramos, they’re some of my favourite comics.
