anyways what if lup had been locked into the vault with cyrus? it would have probably been airtight, so the lack of oxygen could have resulted in her corpse becoming mummified.
and years and years down the line, the tres horny boys stumble into the vault, and while everyone elseâs attention is on cyrus, taakoâs eyes are drawn to a body propped up against the back wall of the vault, an umbrella clutched in both hands. something draws him to it, and when he looks into that painfully familiar face, his head fills with static.
thereâs a painful weight pressing down on his chest, and no matter how much he tries to make his mind process the sight before him, the thoughts slip away like sand through his fingers.
thereâs something devastating about her - the way sheâs slumped against the wall, the way her body curls into itself, the sadness in her gaze
and he would probably stand there staring at her for an eternity, except just then, gundren grabs the phoenix fire gauntlet, and shit hits the fan.
magnus and merle drag taako away, and he goes reluctantly. but he doesnât stop thinking about her.
it isnât until later, after theyâve been inoculated and officially been welcomed into the bureau of balance, that taako has a chance to tell his friends about her.
he shares his suspicions with them - thereâs something the Director isnât telling them. the static that had filled his head when he had looked at that corpse, that elf girl, in the vault - it was just like the static they had heard whenever Killian spoke to them about the BoB.
But even though the memories of the battles fought over the relics have returned to him after he was innoculated, the static is still there in his mind whenever he thinks about the girl.
âI - I know it sounds crazy,â he says, âbutâŠi thinkâŠ.could there be another voidfish?â
magnus and merle are both rather skeptical. they donât want to think the organization theyâve just sworn their loyalty to is deceiving them. but itâs no questions where their loyalties lie - theyâve known taako longer than theyâve known this Director woman, and if he says thereâs something fishy going on, theyâll give him the benefit of the doubt.
theyâll help him solve the mystery of the dead girl that shares his face.
thereâs still time before their next mission, so they tell the Director they have other business to attend to, assure her that theyâll be back before long, and make the long journey back to the vault.
magnus and merle hadnât noticed her, the first time theyâd been in the vault, but when they lay eyes on her this time, they both feel a chill crawl up their spine. theyâre not affected in the same way taako is, but thereâs a feeling of wrongness, as they stare down at her vulnerable form.
âshe deserves a proper burial,â merle says in a voice between a whisper. he says it like a question, and taako is quiet for so long that he starts to think that maybe he wonât get an answer.
but finally, he agrees. they carry her body out of that awful, dark cave. they take her somewhere beautiful, a meadow full of bright and cheery flowers. they make her a little tombstone, and lay her gently to rest.
taako goes to bur her umbrella with her, but finds he canât bring himself to let go of it. he stands there staring down at her for a long time, before finally backing off. the umbrella is still clutched in his hands, and his friends thankfully donât say anything.
he doesnât know why he feels such grief for someone he never knew, even discounting the strange mystery of their shared appearance. but he vows to himself heâs going to get to the bottom of what happened.
the three of them return to the moon base shortly after, and Madame Director meets them upon their return.
taako sees her eyes dart immediately towards the umbrella in his hand, sees the way they widen a fraction. a tremble of her lips betrays her in the second before she arranges her face into a welcoming smile, and in that moment, he just knows his suspicions about her are right.
