Come to think of it, it really is insane that my entire country is burning alive and literally no one in the rest of the world cares. I just watched main vaapas aunga, and being from punjab i had my fair share of partition movies.

But still every time, i am like, why do we keep forgetting it?

And its not even that old of an incident, i mean my great grandmother, who was 10 when her and her mother came to india through all that HELL, is alive.

This is back on my dash! And listen, I love to see Amir Khusrau getting appreciation, but this translation ignores a lot. The original rhymes! And scans! And does playful things with register! And conveys a tone of affectionate banter between the two speakers, not least because it has them both addressing each other as sakhi (translated above as “girl”) in the last two lines. I think taking some liberties with line order is worth it to preserve more of the rest—and I think there’s a better translation of sakhi. And so:

He only visits once a year, I splurge big on him when he’s here, His kisses make my tastebuds tango. Who, bitch, your man? Nah, bitch, a mango.

On the note of being able to objectively criticize without being racist, I would love if South Indian films can have leading heroines with darker or at least medium brown skin tones! It's not an obligation to have every leading couple be a man with darker or more "ethnic" features and a woman with very fair skin and mostly non-textured hair.
