Do you know this Musical Song? #221
I know the song and the musical
I know the song but not the musical
I know the musical but not the song
I may know this
I have never heard this
it's always "you're autistic" and never "thank you for telling me everything you know about the Hatchetfield Universe"
Thinking again about the iconic audacity of a bunch of college kids getting together to write bad-faith fanfiction of a well-known series and turn it into a musical that. is millions of miles better than the original.
Yes I am talking about AVPM.
How did you find out about find out about Starkid?
I just stumbled upon on one of their musicals while scrolling though youtube
I heard about them from someone I was close to
A person I watched liked them
Honestly idk kinda forgot
I saw one of their shows live
I saw a really cool animation with one of their songs in it
I DONT REALLY WANNA DO THE WORK TODAY
Tumblr
It was suddenly all over my feed and I decided to give it a try
One of their songs showed up on my smart shuffle and I thought it was cool
I already knew one of the actors in Starkid from other media I like
Other/Who tf is that
Hey y’all remember how the literal plot of Black Friday is that people are so blinded by consumerism that they fly into a blind rage over not being able to get something they really wanted and how that is bad and people should try to not base their happiness on life based on stuff?
Bringing this up for no reason in particular.
sometimes when I think about starkid too hard I cry. what do you mean you best friended so hard you built a fandom empire?
"I asked chat gpt" "I asked grok" well I was talking to monkey about it and he thinks we should just kill you
OUT OF THE DEPTHS OF HELL AND BACK!
Starkid is one of the absolute best arguments for supprting independent art. The fact that the shows you're invested in can't get canceled by Big Daddy Streaming, the quality is always amazing, the love of the cast and crew doesn't get squeezed out by surprise budget reductions, the fact that since crowd funding provides almost all costs up front (plus the presence of voluntary digital ticket/in person tickets for additional funding), the fan base can access the full material for whatever cost they can contribute (even if you can give nothing monetarily, you will still get a professionally shot version of the material eventually, without surprise fees or password crackdowns, AND with captions/completely accesible regardless of location). The same goes for Tin Can Bros, Shipwrecked, and all the other associated theater and web series companies loosely connected to Starkid. Like, I cannot believe the amazing content provided to us at the same level as Broadway or streaming services with billion dollars at hand, with almost none of the catches that come with others. Like, I cannot believe that we get all of this right at our hands.
Why would you tell people to skip the Hatchetfield Ape-Man…. She’s literally so funny and gothic :(
So many people reblogging this going “well I’d say to skip over it and come back-“ or “well it’s a terrible opening episode-“ no. You’re who I’m talking about. You should watch the Hatchetfield Ape-Man first. Ape-Man is your litmus test for how well you’re going to be able to handle the rest of Nightmare Time, and I’m dead serious about this.
The general climate of media lately is all about being self-conscious and cool, and if anything gets too weird they have to defuse it with a joke and if anything earnest happens it has to be undercut with a one-liner. Nightmare Time rarely does this, and if you’re going to watch it, you should probably test the water by seeing how comfortable you feel watching what is basically just a modern gothic novel. If you cannot handle the Hatchetfield Ape-Man, what are you going to think of Snoozle Town from Watcher World? What are you going to think of Jane’s A Car? What will you get from Honey Queen? How will you handle Daddy? Can you suspend your disbelief? Can you watch this show without making fun of it to disguise your own discomfort?
The Hatchetfield Ape-Man isn’t even that goofy, is the thing. It’s funny, for sure! It’s preoccupied with love and money and desire, and it’s just deeply, painfully earnest. Can you tolerate this strangeness? Can you take the premise as seriously and with as much love and respect as it is being shown to you? Because if you can’t, then why are you here?
*stumbles out of youtube covered in blood and panting* that was such a good musical
