💭 having a nightmare - eri-determined
@eri-determined
Truth be told, nightmares aren’t uncommon for Toshinori. After all he’s seen in his many years of heroing, it would be weirder if he did not have nightmares.
Still, a nightmare never was a nice thing. Especially not when it involved seeing his children-
He shoots up when he finally wakes up, heart going a thousand miles an hour as he tries to gather his senses. All the kids are safe, whether they live with him or are in the UA dorms. Eri, Tsuyu, Shoto, Izuku, Mirio, Tamaki, Dabi, Himiko… They’re all safe.
Eri was a very light sleeper. Anything could disturb her sleep, from a raindrop outside a windown to a bad dream, which was why she took so many power naps during the day.
The girl woke up when she heard footsteps on the hardwood floor. Someone passed by her room.
Her eyes shot open, body went tense, legs curled up, fists tightened. The tiny stars shining from the ceiling said that she was not in that basement. They told her she was in a much better place. That if something scared her she could hide under her bed, in her closet or make a run for it to her dads’ rooms. Or anyone else’s she trusted.
But the fear was all the same. Irrational and overwhelming. She just stared intensely at the door, she didn’t call out that she was scared, she didn’t make a single move.
The footsteps came back. Her heart pounded.
Still half asleep, he goes to the kitchen to get a glass of water. Yeah… That’s gonna be another near-sleepless night. As he walks back to his own room with the water, he pauses briefly outside of Eri’s room. Should he check in on her…?
He carefully pushes the door a bit open. “… Eri?” His voice is soft, in case she’s still asleep, but hard enough that she’d be able to hear if she was awake.
Her heart stopped for a brief moment. The door opened slowly, faint light pouring in, she sat up out of habit.
Then she calmed down.
It was just daddy. It was okay.
Eri didn’t answer, just slipped from under her covers, off her bed and without a word ran up to hug Toshinori.
At the hug, he immediately goes down on his knees to properly return it. “Are you alright, Eri? Did I scare you?” He keeps his voice soft out of instinct, not wanting to startle her with a loud noise.
He carefully stands up again with her in his arms, holding her tight.
For a moment Eri didn’t answer, simply appreciating the comfort it brought to be near someone who cared for her. She was too touch-starved even after half a year.
“Footsteps scared me.” She admitted burying her face into dad’s shoulder. “Are you okay daddy?”
“I’m sorry for that, Eri.” He softly whispers, walking into her room and sitting on the bed with her on his lap.
“Me?” He softly laughs. “I’m fine. A bad dream woke me up, so I went to the kitchen to go and get some water, and hopefully go back to sleep after.”
“It’s okay.” She mumbled, nodding off slowly. It was all right, a false alarm. “I get lot of bad dreams. I can’t get up after some of them.” She didn’t move from Toshinori’s lap, never the one pull away first. “You sure you’re okay daddy?”
Even without nightmare waking her up, she easily gotten irrationally scared. She thought about dad’s fears. One of them had to be Mr Deku getting hurt, she was afraid of that too.
“Did someone get hurt in the bad dream?”
“A bit shaken up, perhaps, but I am most certainly fine.” He doesn’t let go of her, either, the contact helping him calm down from the panic still inside him from the nightmare.
“Ah… Yes. Quite some people got hurt…” He softly sighs as he tries not to think back on the dream. It had been truly terrible, to see all those broken and bloodied bodies, of the people he cared most about, and his kids.
It had to be scary. Eri learned that adults get scared too, so it was okay to be scared because everyone got scared.
She snuggled up.
“Everyone is safe.”
He smiles at that, his heart fluttering in his chest out of pride.
"Everyone is safe, indeed." He presses a soft kiss to her hair. "After all, I am holding you in my arms, the children from 1A are safe in the dorms, and Dabi and Toga know how to take care of themselves."

Nana was a hero for a while, she’s seen possibly a lot of wicked scenarios and had many odd entercounters. During one of them, she met a young foolish Quirkless boy she planned to train to be her successor. She also hoped to protect him from the monster hunting down her, so he wouldn’t have to be the one to stand against him.
She wasn’t phased much when a 7′2 ft and 200kg-something man fell through a portal. If not for her reflexes, she wouldn’t have caught him and put down on the ground, a bit worried about the lankiness.
He could’ve broken so many bones, sweet lord.
“You alright? Not everyday you fall through a portal!”
If anyone were to ask, Toshinori would definitely deny ever cursing as he suddenly got thrown into a portal and, forgive the word choice, yeeted across and through god knows what. When he’s on the ground, he looks at who ever saved him.
“Yes, thank you, I’m per-” He freezes as he notices just who it is.
… What? How? This… Shouldn’t be possible?
“-fectly fine.” He continues after maybe a second, awkwardly coughing. Hm. Yes. This was… Awkward and new.
“You sure you’re alright?” The heroine motioned to the already gone portal, as in to repeat her previous statement adding “this is not normal”. All the while maintaining her big smile. “Cat got your tongue?”
Huh, Toshi was sure running late today.
“Yes, I am.” He smiles back, hiding the unease. It’s not like this is the weirdest situation he’s ever been in, is it? He’s been in plenty of situations as a hero, so this should be easy to deal with.
“Ah, could you perhaps tell me where exactly I am? And… When?” That has to be the weirdest question he’s ever asked, but it’s legit. When is he?
With a energetic nod, she accepted the answer, and thought briefly about the question. When? When? What like “Back to the Future” gig?
“20th century good sir.” She joked. “March 15th, snow’s melting, but cold still biting the ass. When are you from and what happened to get you from “where” to “when”? If I may ask.”
“… What about the year?” He softly asks, looking down at his hands. If Nana’s still up and about like this… It had to be before he was 18. Which… Would be weird if he ran into his younger self.
“And certain things would not add up in my time. That is what brought me to the question. Although… A better question to ask might be, do you know Toshinori Yagi?”
“The year’s 1985.” She said easily before her demeanor shifted into a bit less soft-hearted one. She didn’t know Toshi for long, it’s been barely a three months since she started training him, but she noticed a few distressing signs he gave off.
She could’ve grown bit too attached and bit too protective already. She had to start writing memo cards that she’s not his mom.
“Sure, what’s up?”
He places a hand over his mouth, frowning. “1985…?” He sighs. “That’s… 35 years ago. That means I should be about…” He sighs again. “Right.” He shakes his head. “I should probably explain, should I not?”
He places a hand on his hip as he thinks it over. “I’m from 2020. I’m a teacher at UA high.”
Nana hears out the explanation and takes a moment to solve the puzzle before speaking again. She did quick math, thought about UA and the teacher bit, considered it.
Sheesh, she must be an old grandma then.
Or dead.
Huh.
“So… connecting the dots, you’re Toshi from the future though. I cannot imagine anyone else who would wear that same haircut 35 years into the future. Do you think there will be any consequences if you saw yourself?”
“I, indeed, am Toshinori from the future.” He nods. “And… I do not know. There probably would be at least some consequences, but there might not be any, either.” His head hurts only thinking about it, really. This is… Not his forte.
“We can never be certain until we try it.” Which would probably not be a good idea, but he’s never had the best.
So far it did sound like the man hadn’t planned this trip and Nana believed him. Not that she had lie-detector in herself to be 100% sure, Sorahiko would call her foolish for that.
“So far the past self is running late, otherwise you’d fall on yourself.” She didn’t really fancy the idea of two Toshis meeting each other. Something had to be done. “You got any idea who or what sent you here?”
Toshinori softly chuckles. “You should probably get used to that… I was late a lot… Mostly because of-” He cuts himself off suddenly. She didn’t know yet, at this point. He’d keep it silent for a while longer, so he couldn’t say it now.
“It is probably a villain, trying to get revenge on me, or trying to freak out the media and UA again.” He helplessly shrugs.
Shimura didn’t need him to say a word more than that. At this point she was certain that something was wrong.
Something that still hurt Toshinori 35 years into the future, it had to be taken care of.
She’d probably stalk tiny Toshi a bit, but for now something had to be done with the present one.
“Well, I bet we gotta find a way to send you back. Someone ought to be alarmed if you don’t come back.”
Oh, Toshinori knows what she is gonna do, simply by looking at her. Yep, he messed up already. No big surprise there.
"If no one else, at the very least young Midoriya and young Bakugo will be alarmed." They always seemed to be the ones keeping a close eye on him, especially Izuku.
"And of course Eri." He softly smiles as he thinks about the little girl he holds so dearly.

"1985...?" He sighs. "That's... 35 years ago. That means I should be about..." He sighs again. "Right." He shakes his head. "I should probably explain, should I not?"
He places a hand on his hip as he thinks it over. "I'm from 2020. I'm a teacher at UA high."
💭 having a nightmare - eri-determined

Yeah... That's gonna be another near-sleepless night. As he walks back to his own room with the water, he pauses briefly outside of Eri's room. Should he check in on her...?
He carefully pushes the door a bit open. "... Eri?" His voice is soft, in case she's still asleep, but hard enough that she'd be able to hear if she was awake.
