remember,

the first pride was a riot. there’s definitely space for the “yay i love the lgbtq community and being myself yippee” part of pride, but remember the protest part of pride as well. there are countless people today that are at risk of violence if they ever come out. it is so fucking important to make yourself a clear ally, someone that others can trust when they’re in bad situations. you can’t fix other people’s lives, but you can keep fighting against bigotry and try with all that you have to make the world a safer place for all people.

this post goes out to my friend and her girlfriend. it makes me so furious to hear my friend talking about how they have to act like girly-girl besties around her mom, how they have to watch everything that they say to each other, how they can barely ever be affectionate.

this goes out to everybody who has to watch the way they speak, the way they dress, even the way they walk. you are not alone. i hope that pride month gives you comfort.

i think my very first "i love women" moment was when i was four and i saw maria reynolds in hamilton for the first time... i was CAPTIVATED. it probably took me longer to learn that i was into guys at all than girls tbh and hhmmmi think christian borle might have been responsible for that ...?gulp.

my genderqueer awakening was hedwig and the angry inch and im so serious. after watching the movie for the first time i knew that there had to be so much more to me than just being a girl:)

honestly i was a pretty gradual realization. but i guess my “i’m gay” moment was when i stopped trying to suppress it once i made a bunch of friends in theater that were nearly all lesbians lol? but the first boy i remember finding cute was this guy in middle school that barely ever interacted with me but he seemed nice. he moved away about maybe 3 years ago? hope you’re doing well texas🙏🙏

even if spring awakening played nearby i wouldnt be able to go because i’d hwve to ask my mom because i cant drive and also do not have access to my bank account (only she does) and i dont have a job or any money and also if i ask her she’d google it and crucify me for even being aware of such topics. sneaking out would require money and transport, two things i do not have. if the day comes though i will be sneaking out and seeing it i dont care how it has to happen

MRS BERGMANN: Alright then. Just don’t— don’t look at me.

[WENDLA nods and moves so that she is sitting with her back turned to the audience, and MRS BERGMANN sits next to her on the bed, turned the opposite way so she is facing the audience.]

MRS BERGMANN: [With genuine resolve] When a man and a woman… When they get married, they often want to raise children together. You hear me Wendla? Only after marriage.

WENDLA: After marriage, yeah.

MRS BERGMANN: And when they want children, they…

[She pauses, suddenly ashamed. MRS BERGMANN has lost her courage.]

When they want children, they pray to the Lord, and if it is His will, they will have a child.

WENDLA: How?

MRS BERGMANN: That’s all.

WENDLA: [Turning around, skeptical] That’s all?

MRS BERGMANN: Yes.

[A pause, WENDLA glaring at her mother.]

WENDLA: I’m going outside.

[WENDLA storms out of her room, leaving her coat on her bed. MRS BERGMANN thinks about calling her back, but she doesn’t. She folds WENDLA’s coat, holding it close and trying not to cry. MRS BERGMANN was so sure this moment was when she would do things differently from her mother.]
