WAIT THAT LAST TWEET WASN’T AN EDIT??
NO IT’S REAL AND DELETED SKDJKSJFKS
Can someone who’s into SPN PLEASE explain this? Preferably on this post so my inbox/dms aren’t getting blown up for the next three days?
This has been all over my dash tonight and I’m so confused.
@prismatic-bell I don’t know if I have the lay of the land accurate - though I might have followers who do! But this is my very rough understanding of things:
Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles co-star in Supernatural for 15 years, during which time Jared Padalecki was generally and increasingly unpleasant, including: physical assault (up to and including, arrest), bribery, racism. He owns a MLM, and I can’t find a better citation, but there’s community rumblings about inappropriate touching of other cast members.
The tl;dr I’m reaching here is he seems like a pretty meh colleague.
Supernatural finishes abruptly and speculatively because Padalecki is interested in a reboot of the Texas Walker.
Jensen Ackles states he would have happily continued playing his character and after the series concludes, states intentions to work further in the Supernatural universe.
Jensen Ackles turned down offers from Padalecki to star in the Texas Walker reboot, as well as offers to appear as a guest or direct an episode.
Padalecki starts working on Texas Walker, cast as lead. Its previews and premieres go attrociously and it is not well-received.
Jensen Ackles announces a prequel series to Supernatural right before something happens with the Texas Walker show. This is a project he planned in discussions other members of the various team involved in Supernatural, notably including: Robbie Thompson, Eric Kripke, Misha Collins. These people congratulate and hype Ackles.
The prequel series is not well-received by the fandom, because it centers a disliked character, theme and honestly, just,, nah.
Jared Padalecki proceeds to tweet that he is happy for Ackles’ project, but wishes he could have found out about it not through public sources. He further adds his dismay that his character was not included in this prequel. He says that he is gutted.
Robbie Thompson posts a positive tweet about the SPNFamily, very generic. Padalecki replies with et tu brute tweet as above and then deletes it. He also unfollows, refollows, unfollows his former colleagues and stuff like that.
Padalecki’s response to the situation acts as heat sink to the hatred of the prequel project’s announcement, which isn’t even lit for a pilot yet for real. All this over a twinkle in a producer’s eye.
So, my ken of the situation is show ended with Padalecki having alienated most people involved, the rest of the crew and cast started work on other projects and deliberately didn’t involve Padalecki, who is now having a very public reaction to it, which might have something to do with his own failing show, and ironically, helps beat the dead horse.
……..
………..WOW.
if anyone is interested, i summarized in this post why the hate for jared has intensified so greatly since the finale, and if you go back through my jared tag you can find the receipts for it.
another layer to all of this is that the cw apparently fucked over both jensen and misha (and dean/cas in the process) in regards to the ending of spn in order to center jared for walker, and jared apparently allowed this to happen, fucking over his “friends”. he made some pretty horrible comments indicating that dean’s sudden death was a “success story” because it allowed sam to go live a normal life free of the burden of his (often suicidal) brother. they also completely ditched sam’s love interest, eileen, who was a Deaf woman, in favor of a faceless woman seen in the distance, and jared approved of this too.
he also seems to be a pretty shitty father to his three young children, openly admitting that he can only stand taking care of them for 20 minutes before dumping them back on his wife, and complaining that he doesn’t know how to play with them or he doesn’t want to play with them outside in the heat.
and then there’s also the racist, bootlicking nature of his walker show, the whole point of which is to romanticize the ~conflict~ of being a cop whose duty is at war with his humanity. 🙄
fans have been speculating for MONTHS about a “j2 fallout theory” because of how they have been acting, and we’ve been going wild because this whole thing confirms it. it has really seemed like jensen was pissed off, for the following reasons:
he looked visibly unhappy in the last scenes of the finale
he did nothing to promote the finale or even ACKNOWLEDGE it on social media, did nothing like ‘congratulating’ his costar on the end of their 15 year show together. he and misha were both left out of the cw’s ‘thank you and goodbye’ twitter video.
he was completely silent on social media for something like 3 months, and his only recent likes had to do with the third-to-last spn episode, which was misha’s last episode and the infamous nov 5th episode where destiel went canon. his first like/comment after 2 or 3 months had to do with that episode as well.
in online panels, jensen was animated and excited when talking about the destiel episode, but flat and miserable-looking when talking about the finale. we know from old conventions that this is not the ending he wanted for dean.
jensen and jared were once so close that they bought neighboring houses in austin to raise their kids together, but not long after the finale jensen up and fucked off to the mountains in colorado with his whole family. despite the fact that they have a brewery in austin, to my knowledge they’ve been living in colorado for a good six months while jared films walker in texas.
jared did not acknowledge jensen’s birthday in march.
jensen made one little perfunctory tweet promoting the premiere of walker, but it wasn’t exactly enthusiastic.
jared said that he wanted jensen to star in walker, and after jensen said no, obliviously blathered on about how he was “blowing up jensen’s phone” and that he was going to drag him “kicking and screaming” to either guest star or direct an episode. jensen has said NOTHING.
what compounds this is that jensen famously loves cowboys and dressing up as cowboys. in theory, dressing up as a cowboy and playing around with, ostensibly, his best friend should be a no brainer.
so THEN jensen drops this bomb that he’s planned out a prequel - announcing it on twitter THIRTY MINUTES before walker is set to air on tv!! - without it ever reaching jared’s ears. which, considering the number of people that must have been in discussion, seems like it had to have been a deliberate slight rather than an accident.
also, robbie thompson is one of the more beloved of spn writers, and he left the show after s11. according to the prequel announcement, robbie has been tapped as the head writer of the prequel, therefore the vitriol jared spewed in his direction makes me inclined to think that he tried to get robbie to write for walker and was again turned down.
so all of this to say: this has been a long time coming, confirmed a lot of our speculations, and the asshole deserves every minute of it. ✌
j*red watched dean die and said ‘thats the core of the show, that’s what it’s all about’ so no i will not feel bad abt being mean to him for not getting the memo about the prequel

Happy Birthday David Tennant! (April 18th, 1971)
Dean was basically killed because he was bi. I KNOW people will say that’s a stretch. But logically, as the story was written, his only happy ending should have been with Cas. They couldn’t let that happen. And they couldn’t give him a Heterosexual Growing Old Montage like they did Sam because of it. So the logical conclusion? Kill him. They couldn’t even show him reuniting with Cas because they KNEW it would’ve had to be gay. They could barely show him mourning Cas because after that love confession, any mourning could’ve been read as gay now. So his happy ending was taken from him and he had to die tragically and have a lackluster happy ending driving in heaven where we didn’t even see what he actually would’ve wanted to do in heaven because once again: it would have been gay. This was bury your gays but worse because he was killed for it before he even got the chance to say it. He was punished and left with an unsatisfying ending because he loved a man.
This.
On top of this Castiel also in canon died because of his homosexual love for Dean. They then celebrated it like it was a beautiful thing, leading us to expect it to end happily.
Then they killed Dean and barely mentioned Castiel.
They were both killed because they loved each other.
