also i’m very late to the party on this but i was reading about that jamir nazir story “the serpent in the grove” that was revealed to probably have used AI after it had already won the commonwealth award. and as i’m reading the story i’m like. my issue actually isn’t even that nazir used AI it’s that someone read that story with their own two eyes and was like “yeah this deserves a prize”

like i’m sorry but like. even moving past the incredibly overwrought language. the pacing here is terrible. the plot arc is terrible. none of it makes sense at all. i can understand focusing on the tortured similes & metaphors because they’re every other sentence and they’re all really, really dumb but i just don’t see how you* read a story with this shitty a structure and go “yes well done worth your time.” anyway if any of you haven’t read it yet and want to it’s here

like you knew the nhl was borderline never gonna acknowledge it because of all the reasons they wouldn’t and you knew that it was rapidly mushrooming in popularity and you knew that it would attract some of the most god-forsaken internet users on the planet and you knew that it’d absolutely affect the quietly enormous hrpf ecosystem because if you’ve been in fandom spaces/on tumblr long enough you get at least some decent pattern recognition and hockey already had some weird parasocial shit go down with that one woman it was like. well duh. although frankly i didn’t think it’d take less than a year for authors to publicly brag about their history of writing hockey players fucking each other
