korra & asami, turf wars issue #3
In DC there are five career options: reporter, scientist, cop, hacker or billionaire. If you aren’t one of these, you are usually either a student or participating in illegal street racing.
And this is just the good guy category.
I read this as Washington DC and went, “that sounds right. Wait…”
Maybe misusing the name of God isn’t so much about saying the shallow words, “Oh my God,” as it is about using the name of God to justify discrimination, oppression, injustice, racism, slavery, xenophobia, poverty, sexism, islamophobia, ableism, homophobia, war, & the list can go on.
When I was a wee little Gaslight attending Catholic Sunday schools, and then later in college when I was taking a Bible as Literature class, both my stolid neighborhood deacon and my dapper Protestant professor said almost the exact same thing:
“Taking the Lord’s name in vain isn’t when someone says ‘God damn it.’ It’s when a mortal, fallible human being presumes to put words in God’s mouth and say ‘This is what God wants you to do.’“
Time to reblog again. Holy shit.
Interesting. I never knew this

Elspeth Beard, shortly after becoming the first Englishwoman to circumnavigate the world by motorcycle. Her journey took 3 years and covered 48,000 miles.
Uh, just as a warning to anyone out there attracted to women: the other photos of her that exist are at least equally as hot, which is fucking terrifying.
This woman could ride up to me, take of the helmet and dramatically shake out her hair, and ask me to leave my life behind to run away adventuring with her
She is also an architect who lives in a Victorian water tower, and a more recent photo (still with a bike!) shows that at about 60 years old she is *still* just as beautiful.
Here’s an interview with her and some more photos of her, with bikes and in her water tower
A professor asked if I prefer “Miss” or “Mister” (because nb) and I accidentally said “ya boi” without thinking so now I have a professor that calls me “ya boi Rogers” every time I see him.
I’m not seeing the problem???
“A long-term study of children raised by lesbians found that these children were less likely to suffer from physical and sexual abuse than were their peers who were raised by heterosexuals. This is thought to be due to the absence of adult heterosexual men in the households (Gartrell, Bos, & Goldberg, 2010). Girls raised by lesbians tend to have higher self-esteem, show more maturity and tolerance than their peers, and are older when they have their first heterosexual contact (Gartrell et al., 2005, 2010). Children raised by same-sex parents seem to be less constrained by traditional gender roles; boys are less aggressive, and girls are more inclined to consider nontraditional careers, such as doctor, lawyer, or engineer (Gartrell et al., 2005; Stacey & Biblarz, 2001). Over the course of more than 20 years, scientists studied the psychological adjustment of 78 teenagers who were raised by lesbian mothers. Compared to age-matched counterparts raised by heterosexual parents, these adolescents were rated higher in social, academic, and total competence, and lower in social problems, rule-breaking, aggression, and externalizing problem behavior (Gartrell & Bos, 2010). There are fewer studies of children raised by two men, but gay fathers are more likely than straight fathers to put their children before their career, to make big changes in their lives to accommodate a child, and to strengthen bonds with their extended families after becoming fathers (Bergman, Rubio, Green, & Padrone, 2010).” ~ Martha Rosenthal, Human Sexuality: From Cells to Society, p.247.
“having gay parents will harm children”
I love that this is cited and sourced ahhhh. Actual researched support! So good.
el tigre es pequeño y gordo
EL TIGRE ES PEQUEÑO Y GORDO
EL TIGRE ES PEQUEÑO Y GORDO
First of all, it’s not nice to take pictures without sourcing them to the photographer. Which is doubly important because if you had you would have found the rest of Paul Wiggin’s photos of this sumatran tiger cub from the Chester Zoo and and used this one instead, which is objectively 10x better in every way
EL TIGRE ES PEQUEÑO Y GORDO Y ENOJADO
Adding more photos of this tiny and fat and aNGRY boi

1 AM finals week thought: Do Kryptonians have belly buttons?
Subsequent exhausted thought: Kara thinks boobs and butts are fine, but she thinks human belly buttons are downright s*xy
Wretched & Cursed thought: When Lena’s feeling frisky, she flashes her belly button at Kara at the most inopportune times. Like during game night (“Lena! Alex knows what that means and you’re going to give her an aneurysm if she sees you doing that to me again”) or while walking their dog Krypto (“WE’RE IN PUBLIC, LENA”)
Bad additional thought: Lena sends Kara pictures of navel oranges and writes “I’m sorry I can’t be her”

Do you know what this is? This is The Heart from Auschwitz.
An act of defiance. A statement of hope. A crime punishable by death.
On December 12, 1944, locked inside Auschwitz, Polish teenager Fania turned twenty. After spending a year in a concentration camp, Fania didn’t expect her birthday to even be remembered - but her best friend, Zlatka, risked everything to make her a birthday present, a paper heart.
Simply making the heart - or carrying it - could get either of them killed.
The heart was signed by many of their friends, bearing notes in Polish, German, French, and Hebrew that announced "When you get old, put your glasses on your nose, take this album in your hand and read my signature again,“ and “Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!” It was an act of great sacrifice and love for a friend.
Less than 40 days later, they began the Death March from Auschwitz to Ravensbruck, and from Ravensbruck to freedom. Fania carried the heart under her arm the whole time. And survived.
Fania donated the heart to the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Center in 1988, where it is a featured piece of their exhibit. You can read more about the story of Fania and Zlatka Meg Wiviott’s Paper Hearts, coming September 2015.

THIS IS THE MOST ACCURATE IM CRYING
The funny thing about this post is that Carolina is a big time SwanQueen shipper and her tweet was literally about SwanQueen.
lilith was created before eve from the same soil as adam to be his wife
she refused to lay beneath him, wishing to be his equal, only willing to have sex with him if she was on his side or on top
adam tried to force her to have sex with him the way he wanted, so she left him and became a demon…
…go off
i mean we could talk about how lilith was a badass who’d rather be a demon than be subservient to a man or we could talk about the allegory here where a woman who demands agency is LITERALLY demonized… or the reality that this story means that the first man in the bible (or the first man ever, if you subscribe to that) was a rapist! great start, boys
this is so important.
I wonder how different shit would be if Adam attempting to rape Lilith was the “original sin” instead of Eve eating the apple.
#SignedByTrump
Only a few of the quotes that the President Elect, Donald Trump, has said about women. After many many hours, my photography final is FINALLY finished. It has been deleted off Facebook and Instagram, so I’m hoping it can stay up on Tumblr.
oh, this is good
