fact: in the witch hat atelier setting, they use the term 'clockmark' as to delineate time

observation 1: to the best of my memory there is not a single point in the entire manga where an actual clock is present and visible

observation 2: their medieval-analogous society does not seem to have the scale of precise machining that you'd need for mechanical clocks to be a household object

observation 3: significant amounts of technological innovation in this setting seems to be, very understandably, contraption-oriented

conclusion: precise timekeeping is something that has historically been possible only via magical clocks up to this point

theory: the principle signs and sigils that are used to track time are the same ones that are used to alter or distort it, so it's all forbidden. 'clockmark' is a linguistic holdover from pre-pact but almost nobody in this setting actually knows what a clock is

hold on hold on you make a really important point. i wasn't thinking about the counterclock seal at all when i was posting this because it was more for the sake of making a joke about clocks getting memoryholed out of the collective consciousness than real #theorycrafting. but then i feel like the fact that we do have Some time manipulation grandfathered in to the pact kind of makes the whole thing feel actually more plausible to me.

you can see on the left there the repetition sign we see agott use in the dragon's bed of sand, along with a couple of others. so it's not Just the counterclock spell its self that made the cut for whatever reasons. there's a lot you could speculate on wrt why this was allowed post-pact. i think if you're looking at it from the same angle of the knights' moralis memory erasure magic, you could say that having the counterclock spell would let you temporarily reverse and then prepare for the effects of forbidden magic or public displays of magic to outsiders to assist with coverups.

but! but... the place where we actually see time magic used the most seems to be...

...cooking implements!

i could totally imagine food preservation being the primary use case for which certain elements of time magic were allowed to persist in post-pact witch society.

clocks, though? fuck em, who needs it. get rid of them all. here's how forbidden clock theory can still win.

"Toby" Fox in the world of your Deltarune comics? What if he and Asriel collaborated on this world's version of UTDR (which I believe is Dragon Blazers)? We know Deltarune Asriel made concept art of the God of Hyperdeath in Deltarune, so...
