“Look, I’m going to level with you,” the assassin said. “I took this contract on the assumption that you were a bad dude. Usually when a country goes bankrupt this fast, it’s because whoever’s in charge is raiding the treasury. But once I infiltrated the guard, I actually had to spend time around you, and you’re just.” The assassin threw her hands up in disgust. “You’re a really nice person! There’s no getting around it! So I’m not super on board with murdering you now. Nothing personal.”

“But if you don’t, my sisters won’t get the life insurance payout, and the country will be in debt for the next century!”

“I’m pretty sure arranging for your own assassination is insurance fraud.”

“Your whole job is to commit murder,” the prince said, “and now you’re worried about a little insurance fraud?”

The assassin pinched the bridge of her nose. “Okay, let’s back up and think about this rationally. Have you considered faking your own death?”

Geralt stopped, too. You know what’s so unique about this movement? The fact that there isn’t a designated leader. There’s no MLK; there’s no Malcolm X; there is no specific person that is leading all of this. This means that there isn’t a person the government can target and kill in order to stop the movement. The big motivator for this movement revolves around the internet.

However, this does mean that it will be very easy to lose motivation for this movement. But we can’t let that happen. So don’t stop sharing content that revolves around blm. Keep going to protests. Keep donating to funds. Keep signing petitions. Keep supporting black creators. We can’t let this movement and this motivation die until justice is served. So keep talking about it.

The reason Black women in fandom get so frustrated with white women in fandom (especially the ones who claim they are feminist) is that white women in fandom have decided what is good for Black women despite Black women arguing otherwise.

White women will see Black characters like Valkyrie/Brunhilde and strip her of her sexuality and decide she “doesn’t need a love interest” and suggest shipping her with Thor strips her of her power. Either this or they will claim shipping her with Thor erases her bisexuality when the meaning of bisexuality is to be attracted to more than one gender (and she already had a girlfriend, but you don’t see them fighting to have future movies explore that). White women will treat news that Ariel will be played by a Black young adult and say “little Black girls deserve better” than to see themselves as vulnerable and demure. The problem with this mindset is it neglects to acknowledge that Black women have *always* been seen as “strong and independent.” It is nothing new to us.

At the same time, white women in fandom will see themselves in a character like Rey–a woman who started off as all of the things they claimed they wanted to see in a female character: strong, independent, and likeable–and reduce her by giving her the job of *fixing* an overpowered and dangerous white villain all to keep her away from the Black character

Yea. Aleays remember that the stuff one woman wants is not inherently the same as other women.

Moana for example. No love interest and suffers losses. Strong and independent, ultimately successful in her story. But shes a WoC. And the successful part is awesome. But the rest isnt. Because thats what WoC have always been fed. Never the flowery princessy girls. Never the swooning damsel being rescued. (And the times where they do get a girl like that, she gets killed off. *cough cough* Allura from VLD).

Meanwhile. Rapunzel from Tangled gets: a love interest genuinely invested in her, still strong and grows to be independent, still meets trafitional female tropes of being girly and doing girly things, a successful ending to her story where only the bad guys die. No long term suffering.

“I dont need no man” does not equal “I dont want a man.” Strong independence does not and should not mean abandoning traditional female tropes and values. Let our ladies out there (regardless of color) still be cutesy, love gardening and baking and sewing and whatever else. Let them find fufilling love interests that respect them. Stop murdering them for shitty low tier drama (Allura. Missandei. And so. Many. More.). Stop handing them off to the first shitty man who sits around and waits for her, never bothering to get to know her or do things she enjoys and actually make an effort to be attractive. Just. Fucking talk to the real people this character draws off of. What do they want to see in the characters that represent them?

Because the supposed white feminist ideal of a woman needing a man (or anyone lbr) like a fish needs a bicycle only applies to women of color in media, even though women of color, Black women in particular, have been saying it’s a harmful stereotype that suggests we don’t have emotional needs.

When wyt women get what they supposedly want in characters like Furiosa and Rey, all of a sudden it’s “why can’t a woman be strong AND have love?” We’ve been asking that forever, yet a lot of fans only ask that question when a “strong” white woman is in the vicinity of a white man they find attractive. White women have been presented as desirable to the exclusion of everyone else since the beginning of modern media. It takes a lot of nerve for them to sit and say that leading women of color in Western media being loved is regressive while arguing that “strong” white leading women being loved is feminist. It’s flat-out stealing points from intersectional feminism while continuing to slam the door on Black women and nbwoc.
