the concept of Laeāzel and Wyll basically teen-parenting gith baby Xan is both the sweetest and funniest thing I can imagine
(Thatās supposed to be a tiny warlock outfit Xan is wearing⦠Laeāzel made it so their son would have something that kinda makes him look like Wyll, since they share neither blood nor lineage)
leaving this untagged as I do not want to get shot but imo the dialogue with Clea before Alicia goes into the canvas is horrifically ableist and not because of Cleaās dialogue (though that is part of it)
itās because of the noises Alicia makes. ffs Sandfall, there were better ways to show how Alicia canāt communicate anymore without resorting to those noises. have lines that say Alicia is writing on a slate or mention that sheās signing her dialogue (and that would low key allow you to flex that France had the first school for deaf students) because that would still have her isolated from the rest of the family because sheād now have to choose between painting or communicating with her family whereas before the fire sheād be able to do both at the same time if she wanted. jfc

we need to have a conversation about how the "everyone is 12" theory of politics now doesn't only apply to conservative men who want to kick the bad guys' asses and then go home and eat a steak their bangmommy made just for them (NO VEGGIES!!!) but also to adult women who are literally afraid of other people having sex and being sexy. it's like there's been this massive regression among women in their 20s where we've gotten rid of feminism and replaced it with a new form of purity politics that requires never saying anything bad about another women unless you find a new and creative way to call her a whore. the misuse of "she caters to the male gaze" as a new form of enlightened slut shaming, labeling any woman who wears a short skirt or has sex with a man as "not a girls' girl" and "a pick me," the intense overreaction to celebrity affairs or even just shit like the summer house mess where a woman is now dating another woman's ex even though there was no overlap and the "relationship" was just kind of a situationship that fizzled but now these little girls are online demanding both people involved in the new relationship lose their jobs and not get any brand deals, the panic over mildly sexual content in literally any capacity like ads or an instagram post in a crop top, the compulsion to link everything back to the epstein files, the monthly meltdown over sex scenes on tv and in movies. everyone is 12 and AFRAID of sabrina carpenter.

Looking at the future Overwatch heroes. They really couldn't make Roadhog or Torbjorn today man. They forgot how to make characters that don't have a snatched waist. Even the Mech/robot in the back has a hourglass figure.
the father (dolly parton), the son (sabrina carpenter), and the holy spirit (miss piggy)
Maiden, Mother, Crone in the best way possible...

In hindsight, perhaps Gale should have realized something was amiss the day he brought Astarion to Waterdeep.
Astarion had wanted to leave as soon as they could. Heād complained when Halsin insisted on keeping an eye on him for three days (āI have vampiric healing, Halsin,ā Astarion had said. āI would have been fine within the hour.ā) but heād put up with Halsinās examinations nevertheless. Maybe part of Astarionās insistence to leave was avoiding needing to spend any longer with the other six than necessaryāno need to get attached when they would be leaving with Halsin and Tav to Reithwin, after all.
The separation from the eldest six had been Galeās reasoning as to why Astarion suddenly looked so unsure the moment heād crossed the threshold into Galeās tower. He looked around the sitting room with apparent interest, but Gale saw how Astarion pulled Mireilla a little closer to his chest, how Astarionās grip on Mireilla tightened ever so minutely. Gale should have said something there and then.
āI hope that Mother didnāt trouble herself in giving everything a good dusting,ā Gale said instead. āIāve told her numerous times that she neednāt clean up after meāI'm a grown man, after all, and anything that Tara and I are unable to manage can easily be handled by the invisible servantsābut I know her well enough to know that no matter how well I clean, sheāll always find fault with it.ā Gale waited for Astarion to make a snarky commentāmaybe on how Morena would find less fault with Galeās cleaning handiwork had he done most of it himself instead of relying on the invisible servantsābut instead he was greeted with silence.
Gale turned around. āIs the tower not to your liking?ā he said. āI wonāt be angry if you dislike it. Iād have no quarrel with you if you wanted us to move somewhere elseāand perhaps it might be best if we move somewhere smaller anyway, at least while Mireillaās still so youngāā
āWhat? Gale, the tower is lovely. Itās just...ā Astarion bit his lip and shook his head. āNever mind. Didnāt your mother mention in a letter that she turned one of the rooms into a nursery? Or am I imagining it?ā

They were right, I didnāt expect that.
Saw someone say that the stats don't match the characters' personalities in BG3, and that they felt Astarion should have higher charisma than Wyll, and that take was SO absurdly wrong I had to sit back for a moment.
Yes, Astarion made a living out of lying to people. But he is not charismatic. This acting and lying does not come naturally to him. His facade falls apart the moment you poke at it even a little (he is soooo blatantly using Tav in the first act of the game, he's trying to be subtle but failing at it so so badly. He can't even lie about the boar he ate convincingly!)
Wyll, even though he might seem a little dorky at times, is genuinely a delight to be around. He's endearing! He makes people laugh!
There seems to be this misconception that charisma = being suave, and that because Wyll has a tendency to be a little goofy this must mean his charisma is low. This is not the case. Charisma = force of personality, and Wyll has an innately warm personality that draws people to him. Astarion is a greasy ferret of a man trying to weasel his way into peoples' good graces. This is why Wyll's charisma is higher.
Pedantic pet peeve BG3 fanon misconceptions
Fanon: Duke is an inherited title.
Canon: Dukes are elected in Baldur's Gate.
Fanon: Astarion is sleeping.
Canon: Elves (and drow) don't sleep ā they go into a trance.
Fanon: The Weave is the source of all magic and Mystra controls all magic.
Canon: There are many different kinds of magic and the Weave is only one of the many mediums (albeit the biggest and most reliable one) that allows people to channel arcane energy. It's not a source; it's a channel. Many wizards and many more spellcasters who aren't wizards can cast magic without ever having anything to do with Mystra.
Fanon: Baldur's Gate is supposed to be an awful city filled with crime, corruption, and murder. (Comparisons to Dragon Age 2's Kirkwall).
Canon: Baldur's Gate is not meant to be any more corrupt or evil than the rest of the Sword Coast. It is the biggest, wealthiest, and most diverse because it controls all trade passing through the Chionthar. Because of its size, location, and diversity, its flaws are magnified compared to similar cities such as Waterdeep, but it is by no means especially more cursed or violent. There are plenty of murder cults in other cities as well.
Fanon: That Strange Ox is so cute uwu
Canon: THAT OX IS A CRIMINAL. NO ANIMALS LARGER THAN A PEACOCK ALLOWED INSIDE THE CITY
Just successfully persuaded Astarion not to Ascend (after killing him the first attempt and him leaving the party in the second) and I have to say, it's so fucking worth it.
The number one thing I was most worried about was that he would be resentful or bitter about his choice. I mean, he gave up the chance to walk in the sun, to eat food, to be as close to human as he could, to be more than what Cazador made him.
But...no. He mentioned not being able to walk in the sun like once. In a sort of "well that fucking sucks but oh well" kind of manner. The way he spoke to Tav was so...bewildered, like he was breathing for the first time. He truly felt relieved that he didn't go through with the ritual. He truly admitted that it was a moment of complete lust for power that was teetering towards madness. And right then I have never regretted my choice.
He's so ready to tackle life's hurdles as a mere vampire spawn because he's doing so as a free one, with the person he loves right by his side. Struggling is part of living, and as he said to Tav, he wants all that life has to offer.
It's the perfect thesis to his story for me, honestly. There are some things about who you are you cannot change, but what is important is how you live with them. By accepting himself as a spawn, and all its downsides, weaknesses, and failings of his past, he let go of the self-hatred, arrogance, and destructive ambition that came with it. By choosing to move forward, live life, exactly as he is ā a weaker, "not-so" vampire ā Astarion truly became more than what Cazador made him.
