Darnielle uses today's note to describe Autoclave as "a call for help, this one is what happens after nobody answers." It certainly comes through, there's a certain despair, a resignation to this state of things, acceptance that this is as good as it'll get, and already the worst it'll ever be, and somehow tomorrow will still sink to a new low. ... Y'all we have got to find happier music, don't get me wrong, I love this, but damn, it's depressing, cathartic, but depressing all the same, says grown adult who's been emo for more than half their life and loves depressing shit.
