âThanks.â It was hard to bite back her own irritation, but she handed the woman the phone anyway. Hopefully, sheâd take a good picture. Though many people who had iPhones had some intuitive knowledge of what made a photo look good. Eila walked backward, checking behind her every couple of steps to make sure she didnât trip over a rock.
She stepped right in front of a rack set of potted plants, and then slightly to the right. There. That should make for a good picture, what with Eila leaning one way and the rack leaning the other, making a near perfect V.Â
âAll right,â she said. âTell me when!â
As Evie took the phone, she caught that familiar feeling, the same feeling she got when meeting any new shifter. Falling quiet for a moment, she took in a breath and her lips soon formed into a small smile. Sheâd never met this girl before, but it was quite clear what she was. Evie had never been wrong about the suspicion before, but she would have to find a way to question it without sounding crazy. Raising the phone, she waited for the camera to focus before messing with the screen a bit and moving her own position to get a better angle/ âNow.â Snapping the picture, she looked it over before nodding and holding the phone back out to her. âHere you go,â she said. âlook good?â she rose an eyebrow at her. âThough I do think it would look even more beautiful, at night maybe? A full moon would really make it.â There was plenty of light in the town at night, though the light from the full moon would make a beautiful picture, it would have never been possible for Evie to even be there.

Betsy had maybe been sneaking too many sips from her flask, if her current state of inebriation was anything to go by. Thornhollow was still new to her, still lonely in the way that all new places were, with no one to pass the time with. Maybe it was the alcohol making her feel bold enough to call out after the rather stunning woman she had seen around town earlier in the week, one that she felt the need to get to know.. âI just wanted to say hi,â Betsy said, practically skipping as she moved closer to the woman and offered her both a bright grin and a hand to shake. âBetsy Ngo-I just moved here last week. Still trying to meet all the locals.â She giggled a little bit, feeling silly at the thought of meeting all of the people in Thornhollow. She was fairly certain there were seafolk here, and she knew enough to know that plenty of them never left the water.Â
Evie eyed the girl for a moment, pretty sure she had never seen her around town. Sure there were plenty of people she had never met, but every face had some kind of familiarity to it. She did not. Her assumption was proven correct rather quickly as she claimed herself as being new to town, and almost immediately Evieâs features softened a bit. It was true, she was never great with other species, which something about this girl made her seem to believe she was, but she didnât want to give any kind of bad impression of the town so quickly to a new resident. Sheâd try not to be too rude. Not only that, it seemed like the girl could possibly be drunk, or pretty close to it. Her gaze fell to her hand for a moment, holding back a sigh as she reached her own out to shake it. âWell, if your goal is to meet all of them, you have about ten thousand left to go.â That wouldnât be the only problem, seeing as many of the supernatural hid away from the others. âIâm Evie though, probably one of the best locals youâll have the pleasure of meeting.â As soon as the words left her mouth, sheâd regretted it. If she seemed nice, then that meant the girl might want more conversations later. Why was making a good first impression so important to her? âThough I should warn you not to just go up to random strangers, some have been known to bite.â She warned, mostly as a joke, but she knew it to be very true.
âthe potions are mostly for luck, since they usually sell best.â nari shrugged a bit, picking up one of the charmed pendents and offering it. âthese are a bit more varied, and more useful in my opinion. this is one of my favorites, makes you blend into the background a bit more so people overlook you.â sheâd used it on her moms when she was younger, but theyâd caught on and found a counter.Â
âI donât think I really need any potions of luck,â she admitted, though took a moment to look over the vials before her gaze went to the pendent Nari had offered out. Hesitant for a moment, she took the pendent from her and looked it over, turning it in her hand. Evie didnât have any doubt that Nari could be a Wix, but she also wasnât very trusting of many of the supernatural in the town. âNot to seem like a SkepticïżŒ or anything, but how can I trust these things actually work?â She asked as she looked away from the piece in her hand to look at Nari. âOr that youâre not like fooling me into buying something that could harm me? Magic has consequences, right?â
đđ đđđ đđđđđđđ đ , đđđđđ đđ âđđ đđ    clue why he was even here, not when heâd planned to go home and take his damn dog on a walk.  no, instead heâd been lured by the hum of the market, his feet sending him there in a stubborn resolution very much against his willââ  as much as he appreciated the walk after being stuck at a desk all day, he didnât have much energy for people, even if he had perused some of the booths, made small talk here and there.  he wasnât going to bother evie, but when he saw her he figured he wasnât going to suffer alone. with a chuckle under his breath, jackson had wagered sheâd be even more fed up than himââ  her response hadnât disappointed. jackson didnât try to be an annoying dickhead, not usually, but sometimes he found a little bit of pleasure in doing so.   â  shit, just sayinâ hello. i was gonna ask how your dayâs goinâ but⊠ â
Evieâs features softened a bit as she saw Jackson, a sigh escaping her lips. It was rare for Evie to actually get upset with many of the pack members, finding them her top priority to make sure were doing okay. Even above herself. Though there were some that seemed to purposely want her to get upset, maybe some childish game. Sheâd learned this quickly on, and did her best not to give them the satisfaction. âWell, hello then.â She greeted, forcing a small smile to the younger shifter. âMy day is going, well just about as good as it can be being stuck in a crowd of people I barely know, maybe a little worse.â Actually, terrible having been here for hours now, but that wasnât important. âYours?â
Despite the fact that one might think Cade was one that preferred to avoid crowds of people, it was truthfully quite the opposite. Cade thrived on crowds, mingling and making small talk. Itâs how heâd maintained his sanity, or rather, insanity as some might put it. But after spending the better half of the last hour with a fae talking his ear off, he felt his hunger and need for blood growing. He had control, but still the desire, the taste, it was something he refused to deny himself. He was a monster after all. But, just as heâd dialed in on his victim for the night, he was torn from his thoughts as he spotted the locks of a familiar brunette and decided to save his dessert for later.Â
âDonât flatter yourself now, darling, Iâve already had it all and truthfully the package is far more appealing than the unraveling,â he murmured just loud enough for Evie to hear. âIâm just surprised to see you tangled up with commoners, wouldnât take you for the market type.âÂ
As Evie realized exactly who the conversation had been started with, she rolled her eyes, but pulled a smirk anyways. âAh Cade, if it isnât my least favorite person in town.â A slight eyebrow rose at his words, a light chuckle coming from her. âOh, I must apologize for not giving you the time of your life then. How terrible of me,â she feigned a sigh as she crossed her arms over her chest. Any relationship, fling, hookup, anything of the sort with a guy had always been just an act on Evieâs side. Get drunk, flirt, hook up, end it. And unfortunately for her, Cade had been one of them. âIâm not, just had to pick up a few things. Though I must say, Iâm surprised to see you here as well. Thought youâd be off manipulating some poor human into being your next meal.â She shrugged as she spoke quietly, giving him an innocent look.
jian had only been in town for a handful of days. he was on the search for his baby sister, but so far nothing seemed to be working and it was getting very frustrating. piers wanted to explore the market which left jian on his own for a little while. wondering the market had gotten rather boring and jian was debating on calling it a day when he heard someone calling out to the other who clearly didnât want to be bothered. âleave her alone. she clearly doesnât want to talk to you.â he said smirking slightly and watching the other person walk away in defeat.Â
Evieâs eyebrows rose slightly as the other person left, her gaze following them for a moment before turning to the new face. âThanks, but Iâm sure I could have handled it.â Evie had been apart of the town her whole life, well except the parts where she was cooped up in the Forest, but she knew she had never seen this guy before. Thornhollow rarely seemed to get new residents, but this guy had to be an exception. While usually, she wouldnât care, she did like that he came to the rescue like that, not that she needed it. Plus, something about him seemed very familiar and she was pretty sure she knew exactly what it was. âI donât think Iâve ever seen you around here before. You new to town?â
âCool.â The woman seemed disinterested. Why? Who was she? Even the most sullen, dull, I-donât-wanna-be-here types prompted E.J.âs brain to spit out a billion questions at a time. What made you like that? If you donât wanna be here, why be here? Or is that just resting bitch face? Itâs okay, I got one too. I confuse people all the time.Â
âNow that Iâm done with that shit,â E.J.âs method of paying consisted of tossing a $5 and letting the vendor keep the change. âWhat else should I check out? I do not wanna miss something cool.â
Evie hadnât seen much at the market, at least not many new stalls she hadnât seen in years past. Everything was so much more interesting when she was younger. Now it was all just stressful, the constant feeling of her needing to be anywhere but here-or that she had somewhere to be, in her mind. Maybe it was just the simple fact she wasnât used to being in such a relaxed environment, especially with so many people. âWell, there are plenty of other hand made works here.â She shrugged, her eyes leaving the younger girl to look over the crowd of stalls and people around them. Crafts, food, drinks, various activities for the younger crowd. It brought back plenty of memories for Evie, memories she didnât quite want to think about. âHeard Wallflourâs has some special sweets only for the market?â
âYou donât have to be rude,â Eila huffed. She had one hand about to tap the womanâs shoulder, and the other holding her rose gold phone. She had just found a good set-up for an impromptu photoshoot. âLook, Iâm just trying to get this picture taken. Me against this backdrop?â Eila gestured to a little stand full of tiny potted plants â some flowers, some not. âIf you donât wanna do it, you donât have to. But people a little more polite, all right?â
Evie couldnât help the sigh and eyeroll that came at the girls words. It had been a long night, a long, boring night where she had been anything but herself. Taking a picture wouldnât take too long though, she could take the picture for the girl then leave. Thatâs all she wanted. âRight, my bad,â she grumbled, biting back a bit of a growl. âYeah, Iâll take the picture for you.â She finally shrugged, holding a hand out to take the phone. Evie didnât have a problem taking pictures for people, in fact, she quite enjoyed photography. During some of her downtime from work, sheâd spent some time either working on some old art projects or editing photos sheâd taken while bored. They were just simple hobbies nearly no one knew about, something she could do to relax without other people.
Kami offered Evie a bright smile, always feeling up for chit chat with whoever she ran into when she was out and about in town. She was a social creature at her core, and she wondered, sometimes, if thatâs part of why she was so drawn to the humans and this town. Seafolk kept to pretty small groups, and it seemed that on land Kami never lacked for someone to talk to. It seemed less lonely than the water did, sometimes, though Kami missed living among her own kind like she did when she was very young. âI try to start choosing by narrowing down what exactly Iâm looking for,â Kami said, fingers pausing over an item briefly before picking it up for a closer look. âThough, maybe donât take my advice, since I always seem to leave these things with more than I intended.â There were many comparisons to Ariel to make, though it had been years since Kami had been a mermaid.
Evie rose a brow slightly at the other girl, finding the advice honestly to be slightly helpful. The only problem is, she didnât know what she was looking for, just various gifts for the younger shifters. Of course she didnât need to, but some of the younger ones werenât allowed to come to the market since they were working on controlling emotions and shifts. She remembered when she went through that, and honestly it was terrible. Sheâd hope a gift would make them feel a little better. âYeah, I donât plan on leaving here with too much. Any other advice?â She asked as her own gaze fell to the item for a moment before going to the rest of the table. She couldnât lie, everything the town made was rather beautiful, but she herself didnât need it. âDonât want to spend too much money at a single booth.â
âCause these words are knives that often leave scars
The fear of falling apart
And truth be told, I never was yours
The fear, the fear of falling apart
Evie had meant to leave hours ago, but every time she went to leave, something else would catch her attention and then sheâd get sucked into another long conversation. She was ready to just get home, get away from all the people at the market, it had only proven her right that large groups of people were still not something she could quite handle. The conversations had gotten her mind off of it, but she was quite tired of everything now, ready to call it quits. So when she heard someone call out to her, she let out a huff. âOh my god,â she muttered, closing her eyes for a moment. âWhat do you want?â She questioned as she turned around to face the other person.Â
âAll right, tell me how I look.â E.J. snagged a pair of sunglasses off a nearby stand and checked them out in the small mirror provided. You know what? They looked good. If the other person agreed on it, then E.J. was definitely getting them.
Evie didnât quite understand the fascination in fancy sunglasses, especially when they all did practically the same thing. Though, she knew one of the younger shifters absolutely loved all sorts of sunglasses. Why was she out spending all of her money on the younger of her kind? Who knew, but here she was. Evieâs attention was drawn away from a pair she had been looking at to look to the younger girl. âUh, they look good on you,â she shrugged, not quite sure what to say. That was the nice thing to say, right? This playing nice thing with the others for a weekend was going to be a little difficult. âYou should get them.â
for the third spring since since her father had passed and left his shop to her, nari found herself setting up a little booth for the market. unlike the last two years she gave herself a limit, would take the rest of the weekend to go and browse after selling off whatever potions and charms she could for the day - she didnât need it with the profit sheâd been turning, especially since finally getting a decent website set up, but she enjoyed getting out and watching people.Â
she set the last few potions out on the table just as she spotted someone near enough that she could call out without raising her voice too much. âeverythingâs got market prices, pretty decent discount - donât suppose i could talk you into a purchase?â
open - little booth selling a small assortment of potions & charms,
plus a bit of jewelry that can be charmed for the right price.
As the day went on, Evie was beginning to wish sheâd just stayed home. Sure the market could be the place to find a lot of interesting goods, but sheâd been mostly bored through the day. Her plan was to grab something to drink real quick then make her way back to the forest to relax and get away from the crowd, only seeming to have gotten bigger as the night approached. However, those plans were spoiled as Nari caught her attention. âYou could certainly try,â Evie shrugged as she made her way over to the stall. The potions and charms of the Wix had never been Evieâs cup of tea, but sheâd try paying them a bit of attention for now. âWhat do you got?â She questioned as her eyes looked over the table.Â
Kami loved the warmth of early spring, the sunâs light dancing across her skin as she meander along through the market. This kind of thing was why Kami lived her life among the humans and the other supernaturals, finding the vibrancy here to so captivating. There were beautiful things in the water, a rich culture among the seafolk, but the range and diversity of life on land is what kept Kami here for so many years. âI love this,â she said, not speaking to anyone in particular as she stopped in front of a stall. âThis is so pretty!â
It had been a few years since Evie had been to one of the markets, usually avoiding such large gatherings to make sure not to get too tense. Of course she knew she should show her face, but work had gotten a little more difficult within the last year, and Evie was trying to avoid any questions that may come from people who knew what she was. Sheâd been convinced to attend this year though, and wasnât quite upset with the choice yet. It was honestly kind of nice seeing all the booths set up again, and she knew sheâd have to try some of the sweets she hadnât had in a while. Evie had been looking at some of the crafts at one of the stalls, debating on buying some for some of the younger pack members when Kami came up beside her. Her gaze turned to the younger girl, a brow raising slightly. âIt is, isnât it? All of this truly is,â she admitted as her gaze returned to the crafts. It was her job to play nice today-this weekend, not draw any attention to her or any of the other shifters. âwhich makes it hard to choose.â

- Evie was born to two shifters like her, Augustus and Emmeline Rowle. They knew that shifters could be dangerous, especially during the full moon, so until Evie was close to her first shift, she wasnât allowed around them very often. The fact she was possibly going to be one was never hidden from the young girl since both her parents were apart of the pack, but it was still safer to keep her away from them, especially younger shifters who hadnât quite gotten control of their shifts. When Evie was 12 though, she shifted for the first time, and it took her years to control them. Years to control some of the anger that came with it as well, but she was able to successfully control both after much practice and patience, getting help from the rest of the shifters.Â
-Â Emotions were a very difficult thing to handle for the young shifter, as it seemed they only got worse as her ability finally kicked in. Evie found herself easily angered, especially by other species and rarely by her own kind. Even from a young age, she had felt a strong connection with the rest of the shifters. There was one however that always seemed to purposefully get on her nerves. It was while she was still young, while she hadnât learned to control the shifts, or the emotions. One time, they caused just enough emotion to cause Evie to shift, and attack the older shifter. Of course, being young, she was weak and caused no harm to the other. Though when she learned what she had tried to do, that was when she began taking her training more seriously. She knew as she grew older, sheâd also grow stronger, and hurting one of her own was something she never wanted to do.Â
- During her childhood, before her first shift, Evie had a friend around her age. Sheâd always believed them to be human, but knowing there was other supernatural beings in Thornhollow, she really was never sure. This was her best friend at the time though, one of her only friends and they did practically everything together. However, when Evie had her first shift, when she realized just how dangerous she could be to another species, she distanced herself. Over the course of just a few days, she had made sure to completely disappear from the other kidâs life, spending the next few years taking her training to heart and spending most of her time in the forest until she finally gained a little control of her shift. She didnât really know how to explain everything to the old friend, so she never bothered finding them when she returned to town, it felt like everything was so new again anyways. As if she had never even been there before. Never met any of the people.Â
- From a young age, Evie knew she would never like boys, and she never really did. However, Evieâs main goal was to make her parents and pack happy, so she kept this a secret for most of her life. To her, this made her think she had to try and prove herself to her parents, so she did the only thing she could think of. She dated a few guys, spread them out over a few years so her parents would think she was happy with each one as a new one came along. However, she never really was happy in any of the relationships. Spending time with the guys wasnât the problem, it was pretending to like them and show affection. None of the relationships would last longer than a couple months, Evie finding herself miserable and either breaking things off or giving the guy a reason to. Evie was 22 when she did finally come out to her parents, and slowly the some of the pack, being quite surprised when no one questioned her and gave her all their support. Evie broke away from the dating scene after this though, finding herself wanting to be more dedicated to her pack than dating anyways. Evie hasnât dated anyone else since then, and still has yet to come out to anyone outside of her pack.
- It would be a lie if Evie said most of her life wasnât at least decent, she didnât have a whole lot to complain about. Her pack was like a huge family, and honestly she had everything she could need. However, about seven years ago, she ended up losing her parents. She still isnât sure what the cause of their death was to this day, just that their bodies had been found deep in the woods after they went off with some of the others from the pack to hunt. A group of them had left, but only three came back, not unharmed, but still alive. Evie had been devastated at first, but realized quickly that a fight is how they would have wanted to go out and while she still thinks about it today, she tries not to grief about it too much. Her time after this was spent taking care of the three harmed shifters who had come back, not bothering to ask too many questions, and just making sure they would return to full health quickly. Evie knew that each and every member in the pack was equal, and while some of the shifters mourned, Evie made sure the other wolves healed and kept an eye on the border of their part of the woods, making sure that whoever had attacked them, wouldnât strike again.Â
- Her parents wouldnât be the last loss Evie came across. Only a few short years after her parents death, something none of the shifters saw coming occurred. The current alpha passed, which meant a new had to be chosen. It took more time than expected, some mourning over the passing, some arguing over who should take his place. The alpha had had a son, one of which thought he rightfully deserved the place since it had been his fatherâs place before him. Some of the shifterâs agreed, until unexpectedly Evieâs name was mentioned by the previous Elderâs wife. Evie had always had the packâs best interest at mind, at heart and apparently his wife wasnât the only one who believed Evie was the right one to be leading the pack. While the decision could have easily been taken into a vote, Evie knew it wasnât going to be that easy. Honestly, she didnât want it to be that easy. She knew there was a fight coming, and while she never thought she would be in this fight, she was prepared. It wasnât easy, but in the end, Evie did win. Sheâd known the boy since a young age, and knew he wasnât prepared to be leading the pack, she had to win, itâs what was best.Â
- The death of Elliana had come from almost no where, peace having been in Thornhollow for some time now, but the death immediately stirred tension as a young shifter had been accused of the murder. Evie knew Jensonâs past problems, most shifters had them, but she had watched the boy grow up and swore she knew he had nothing to do with the murder. Having one of her pack members wrongfully accused and then killed struck anger in Evie, a strong disliking for the Fae quickly arising, especially as Jenson was proven to be innocent after his death - after another murder. While Evie doesnât really care about many other species, she especially dislikes the Fae due to this event.
âż - Evie had a human friend when she was younger, one of which she was practically inseparable with. Before Evieâs first shift, the two spent a lot of time around town, usually hanging out at the mall or arcade. These time were always something that could get Evie out of any kind of bad mood she had been in. They are some of the happiest, yet saddest memories for her since she practically cut the friend off when she began shifting to keep them safe.Â
አ- It didnât take Evie long to realize that she liked girls, in fact she has almost always known she didnât like men at all. Unfortunately, she had always been scared to reveal this to her parents and hadnât until she was in her early 20s. To hide this fact, Evie dated a few guys in her life just to make it seem like she was straight, before coming out to just her parents at first when she was 22. While they supported her completely, and she has since then come out to most of her pack, it is still kept on the down low and she hasnât dated anyone since then, still having never dated a girl.Â
