Iâm sure youâve heard of this one before and if youâre not sure what it is; let me translate it to a more recognizable name:Â Networking. For the ones who are aware of what it is Iâm sure youâve had your own experiences that youâll never forget, and experiences to share.

Here in the Philippines this is a fairly common âbusinessâ and itâs not just limited to the purveying of cosmetic wares, but also jobs such as data encoding, E-loading, captcha typing and more (Iâm looking at you Plan Pro Matrix). But the common one here is the scheme that involves cosmetics and these are the kind that would sell you glutathione soaps such as Luxxe white (Looking at you too Frontrow).
One arsehole actually wasted my time back then and Iâll get to that in a bit. I gotta hand it to these folks; they really think of everything just to make a quick buck.
If youâre not the type of person that likes reading long articles; hereâs my takeaway:
If someone invites you to a âseminarâ and it smells like itâs an offer that says youâll make money and is really intent on getting you on the hype train. Itâs a damn scam. And if they shell out products for you to resell. Thatâs the red flag.
Moreover youâll see these commonly on facebook and some other blogs owned by these folks:

Why the hell should you drop so much money just to be a member? Trying to sell you glutathione products that way or recruit you into selling them? Thatâs the laziest method of trying to sell something.
If youâre gonna buy a whitening soap, donât buy from these poor fellows; they should wake up and realize that theyâre just wasting time there.
I know there are readers from around the world reading this too and I thank you for following our blog. If anyone is going to buy a Glutathione Soap here in the Philippines; do it in supermarkets, drugstores and reputable sites. Not from someone that is really pushy with offering a product.
Ignored the hook, cut the line, detached the sinker
Youâd be flummoxed on why these scammers exist and how do they even proliferate with such a shady way of doing business? Where does it start and thatâs what weâre gonna talk about so let me show you my experiences to make it clear how they work and how to avoid them.
My first run in with these people is from a simple innocuous message I got from a âfriendâ in Facebook and that was in 2011. She was asking me if Iâd like to join a seminar around Robsinsons Supermarket. But why suddenly? I thought there was no harm in it so I was really considering to go. What do I have to lose yeah? I was just fresh outta high school and trying new stuff.
But I was a lazy bum so I just stayed home without saying a word if Iâd really go. The next day I saw her post that thereâs a guy in there who was talking to a bunch of people, but I saw a pile of soaps behind him but never bothered to question why. Little did I know that I just dodged a bullet labelled as ânetworkingâ.
Fast forward to just a year back; we were looking for a job. A member from a company called âFrontrowâ was hiring through a Facebook post that says
WE ARE HIRING 15-20 PEOPLE IN PULILAN AREA
MUST BE 18-25 YEARS OLD MALE OR FEMALE
EARN PHP 2000 A WEEK
Okay so my pal did send him a message and asked him to invite friends too if possible. Hell we didnât know the job detail as it only said âPart timersâ and I was really getting skeptical but my buddy insisted so we tried it. Again; at Robinsons Supermarket Pulilan.
Meeting time was supposed to be 11 am but the host wasnât there yet so we took time to play a game of 20 questions. I started to ask them what the seminar is about and they insisted to just wait instead. I had a strong feeling that it was a pyramid scheme so we decided to push them further. I tried to jest with them so I asked âAre you networkers?â And oh ho! They girl I just asked snapped back with a plethora of defenses. I was right.
This is how it looks like and this one is recent
Well shit; they just wasted our time. So much time to spend on another interview rather than that stinkhole. Phe-ew. Thank Goodness we saw right through it.
And the very last run in was with Emma. She was looking for a job just a year ago. I landed a job first so we decided that she could try a home based job. Hello PlanPro Matrix, I surely didnât miss you.
Emma wanted to try Data Encoding and Captcha Typing to earn some but I really protested against it. She was desperate though so I thought âAlright; if itâs for the benefit of the doubt.â we paid the broker 450 php for a membership fee (Another red flag) and when we tried it. The application wonât work. It needs NET Framework 3.0, and itâs slow as hell. We tried the captcha typing and one mistake had us banned. It was really a scam. Emma felt bad about it so I kept reassuring her that sheâll land a job soon. And she did.
Then it had me thinking; why do people fall for these things? The answer I could come up with is desperation and the high cost of living. Many are unemployed, many wants to earn a living. Problem is some want quick success and it is that naivety or gullibility that gets a victim caught up in their web of deceit.
Most of these recruiters are victims too who just held onto it thinking that eventually they can turn things around. But I do feel sorry for them. The referral and invitation system requires them to sell their souls and humanity and be a persistent and shameless drone. Not gonna mince words here. I know there would be an offence taken.
Wake up networkers! No amount of cognitive dissonance would save you from it. Thereâs no dignity in trying to dupe another person into joining or selling glutathione soaps.
Yes you might argue with me that you might be selling well, but hey; youâre buying too and it isnât cheap.
Thatâs just lazy and unethical business from the one who thought of the scheme.
Thereâs no real money in it. Your money is just going to the head honcho. Youâre working for their sake, not yours.
See; youâre not selling the products. No my good man, you are the product.
And that; my dear readers is what we call the pyramid scheme or networking. A duplicitous type of business that seems harmless to the uninitiated.
Studies say that we Filipinos are very gullible users of the internet, sounds harsh yes;but it is quite true. Why else would our people believe satire and even the promises that tells you of earning a huge sum of money in just a snap? Itâs time to wake up and be smarter than this. Learn from mistakes, be investigative.
You want an even better you? Those products wonât do any good. You want to make a living? That is not the answer.
How about you? Any experiences to share?
Pyramid Schemes: Glutathione Soaps, Captchas, Referrals, and Lies I'm sure you've heard of this one before and if you're not sure what it is; let me translate it to a more recognizable name:Â
