Every single day this month has been like Okay sure. Okay sure what the hell. Okay sure. I guess
DO NOT CALL THE REGULAR POLICE.
they are not on your side.
Very explicitly, in the video, the regular police straight up lie to the couple, telling them they will go to jail for harboring a fugitive if they dont hand the doordasher over, and that it doesnt matter if ice has a warrant for her arrest. NEITHER OF THESE THINGS ARE TRUE. You CANNOT be harboring a fugitive if the person you are haboring doesnt have a warrant out for their arrest! The warrant is what makes them a fugitive!
If ice wants access to someone on your property, do NOT hand them over unless you are shown a warrant signed by a judge! Make as much noise as you can to attract bystanders - it was the fact that a crowd gathered and started yelling at them that made ice leave in the video. And DO NOT expect the regular police to help you - they are just another arm of the state and will only do or say whatever they think is necessary to make you comply.
And make sure you film everything so you have evidence of what really happened if ice tries to enter your property illegally.
The "warrant signed by a judge" is important because there are judicial warrants and administrative warrants.
A judicial warrant is a formal written order authorizing a law enforcement officer to make an arrest, a seizure, or a search. A judicial warrant is issued by a judicial court. Courts that issue judicial warrants include both state and federal courts, such as a âSuperior Court of Californiaâ or a âU.S. District Court,â and a judicial warrant is signed by a judge or magistrate judge. Furthermore, judicial warrants must be complied with, and there are serious consequences for refusing to comply with a judicial warrant. Note that a warrant signed by an immigration judge is not a judicial warrant.
An administrative warrant is a formal written document authorizing a law enforcement officer from a designated federal agency, such as an ICE agent from DHS, to make an arrest or a seizure. An administrative warrant is issued by a federal agency such as DHS and can be signed by an âimmigration judgeâ or an âimmigration officer.â Unlike a judicial warrant, an administrative warrant does not authorize a search. Therefore, an ICE agent who has only an administrative warrant may not conduct a search based on the warrant, though, in certain circumstances, the administrative warrant would authorize the agent to make a seizure or arrest.
For more information from the National Immigration Law Center on Warrants, Subpoenas, and how the difference between Administrative and Judicial versions of these impacts your rights (and/or the rights of our immigrant neighbors), please see the article linked below.

idk what neurodivergent young adult needs to hear this but you are NOT supposed to give 100% at your job. I've gotten more promotions and raises since I started giving 40-60%, which my evil CEO uncle informed me is what bosses actually expect when they say 110%. My mental health has improved tremendously. I've spent 2 out of 5 workdays secretly writing my novel for the last 2 years and I've never been more respected and appreciated. Also--when you see glaring wasteful errors in the company's operating systems, say absolutely nothing! Embrace inefficiency. It is your friend in this capitalist hellscape.
$20 to rent a movie online for 48 hours i need yall to get so real right now bc that is insane. âthatâs the average costâ which is a problem!! if im paying $20 i better get the film on dvd to have and watch forever
and before i get the âwhat about seeing ig at the movie theaterâ comments
i dont have a 60 foot screen and high tech surround sound audio and fancy seats at home. i will pay $20 to watch a movie once with friends for the experience in the theater. i will absolutely not pay $20 to watch a movie on my laptop lmfao
ÂŁ15/$20 is the price of a fucking DVD. That you keep. I'm not paying that much to rent fuck all, you must be joking.
Are all of you really too young to remember how it used to be before corporations stopped selling you things that became yours in perpetuity after you paid for them and started charging you rent for everything?
Biodiversity can be achieved through executive dysfunction!
the most disorienting thing thats ever happened to me was when a linguistics major stopped in the middle of our conversation, looked me in the eye, and said, "you have a very interesting vernacular. were you on tumblr in 2014?" and i had to just stand there and process that one for a good ten seconds
#i was in a car with a linguist i had never met before the car trip and like half an hour in he looked at me#after i finished describing a geology thing that was happening out the window and asked if i'd ever spent much time on tumblr#the fuckor of it all#and then we spent six more hours driving#it sure does leave linguistic markers! i'm not sure i'm good with it (tags via @thoughtsformtheuniverse)
it is one thing to be a linguist and another to be a linguist who knows enough of 2010s Tumblr to spot one of its enjoyers
I'm not sure what's more concerning here: the idea that the Tumblr vernacular, a principally written idiom, is discernible in spoken communication, or the fact that if you click through to the original post, its contents appear to have been replaced at some point in the last two months with Minecraft YouTuber fanfic.
This is me, a linguist, being pedantic but what youâre describing (a particular pattern of speech/grammar/vocabulary indicative of a defined group) is technically a dialect; an idiom is a turn of phrase that means something other/additional than the literal meaning of the words (âraining cats and dogsâ or âsee the lightâ etc etc). You may have been thinking of an idiolect, which is the particular dialect of a single individual.
And if I, a linguist (an intellectual đ§), hear Tumblr English out in the wild, I get so excited. Genuinely, I seriously considered writing my masters thesis on tumblr english and only didnât because my advisor was a bit of a stick in the mud. This is a VERY Exciting Timeâ˘ď¸ for linguists because the advent of the internet (and more specifically areas of the internet that encourage communities to form among people scattered across the globe) has created an era of exceedingly rapid language change, and gives us a huge opportunity to study how language changes on a much shorter timeline than usual. Throughout human history, geography has been a huge limiting factor in language bleed, transmission, and change; but now we have the ability to talk to people from all over the globe regularly enough that we are picking up vocabulary, grammar, and linguistic markers from all over the world.
Like, do you get how fucking cool it is that english speakers who have never visited Asia are able to use borrowed words like isekai and honorifics like -san fluently?? Do you get how many idioms and weird little grammatical constructions weâve created that are unique to OUR dialect of english? Think of pissing on the poor or (like I used earlier) me, an intellectual. Our dialect, here on this hellsite, is the only one I can think of that has created a significant catalogue of complex tone markers specifically for the written form to compensate for the shortcomings of the written word in communicating meta-linguistic information like sarcasm or mockery or excitement. This dialect, primarily created in the written form (which is nearly UNHEARD OF), exploded onto the linguistics scene in 10 or 20 years when normally it can take centuries for dialects to distinguish themselves. It's academically BONKERS and I am HERE FOR IT. It's in the same realm as NĂźshu, the Chinese written script only used by women.
TLDR: As linguists we are collectively shitting our pants about this fucking dialect and are OVER THE MOON to hear it 'in the wild.'
Linguists in the wild wearing shirts that say 'if you were also at the devil's sacrament, join me for an hour in the ballpit'
And booty shorts that say 'you know where i got my shoelaces' on the ass

what ppl defending kids on ipads donât seem to understand is that there are other ways to keep kids occupied. my mom had a whole bag full of little toys and games for me to play with while waiting in lines at disney world. once your kid is like 7 or 8 they can read a book. they can color. or they can literally just sit there and imagine things. i did that a lot as a kid.
thanks for putting your wrong and bad commentary in the tags where i still have to read all of it. most of what you said is untrue.
OP: giving children too young to process things so much access to ipads isnât good for them maybe.
People in the notes: So you hate moms??? Youâre ableist?? You think we should go back to the Dark Ages?? (My personal favorite because it makes no sense) youâre poor shaming??
Why is it so difficult to explain that children not developing fine motor skills and losing their attention spans is bad actually??
also children can end up being entertained by just about anything. I remember building "bird nests" with sticks in the backyard when I was like 7 years old. That was it. It took up my whole afternoon and I was entertained the entire time.
I worked at a kindergarten for a year, and Jesus Christ these kids are falling behind on so many milestones
Everyone knows who the iPad kids are
I've seen it all from kids who don't know how to use scissors, and can't perform the motions right compared to other kids in that age group, to kids who can't write the alphabet or spell their names (the older ones)
And one of the most startling thing I encountered was every now and then we have a country day, where we choose a country, color in the country's flag in the colors and watch a little film about said country.
And I was overseeing the coloring, and one boy just refusing to color
It happens, stubbornness, bad days, 'just don't wanna' s happen, but I sit with him and continue to try and encourage him and figure out why he doesn't want to
And he keeps saying he doesn't know how to color
And I'm like ??? Just pick up the pencil and put it on the paper buddy, cmon
So I'm showing him how, and he refuses to try over and over
So then I try like, coloring while guiding his hand, and again this is a flag were coloring it's a giant rectangle, not much precision is needed
And I realize while I'm helping him, literally moving his hand to color for him, he's CLEARLY never colored before. He's 4, there is no excuse for this when kids start coloring at like, 2 maybe younger.
By 4-5 kids can generally color inside the lines well enough and draw recognizable figures like people and landscapes and pets
Eventually he got into it, understood how to do it and requested to continue on by himself, which was great! I told him I was proud of him and we continued on with our day but it absolutely shocked me that these iPad kids are so beyond stunted like jesus
He didn't know how to grip a pencil, he didn't know the wrist movements and motions, he didn't understand the pressure control, he had no control over where or how he was coloring like, these kids NEED TO learn these things it's STARTLING how many kids don't have these milestones and are just not developing these fine motor skills
Ask any kindergarten attendant and they'll tell you the same thing-
The best thing you can do for a kid is buy them a shitton of construction paper, decorative child-safe scissors, and coloring books
Please please please kids need to cut paper up and color. It helps them develop so many fine motor skils
Now don't be mistaken, the percentage of these kids are low, for now. It's definitely not every kid, and thankfully not the majority but it is still a problem
What you're going to start seeing is a social class stratification of this.
I was at an MVA call--car into a powerline. Three kids, 9, 5, and 2 years old, trapped in the back of a car, crushed against a pole, live lines on the car. Meaning they were fine as long as they stayed inside but we couldn't cut the car open until the power company came and killed the line.
It took about a half an hour. We were all losing our MINDS thinking about three kids who had just been in a significant car accident, unknown injuries, trapped in a car without their mom, and all these strange noises and people around them. We thought these kids would be terrified.
Nope. All three of them were on devices watching videos. Like they didn't even register what had happened or the danger they'd been in or why people were so worried, or even THAT we were worried.
The most distress I saw the kids in as we drove the 30 minutes to the peds hospital? Was when the 2 year old's device's battery died. She went from sitting unnaturally quietly staring at Cocomelon to SCREAMING and throwing things and biting anyone. She only calmed down when her older brother agreed to share his device with her.
It was spooky af, man.
The mom thought she was doing a great job bc her kids were 'so well behaved'. To this day I wonder about kids who cannot process anything other than visual dopamine. How are they going to do in school? Sure? But how about their social development? How are they going to have friends? Boyfriends? Girlfriends? Anything?
the recent eye color post on yesornopolls is intriguing me a lot bc. well. statistically more people should be answering yes to the question here than they are. but obvs the point of yesornopolls is yes or no questions so we canât exactly do a follow up there. so iâm going into more depth here because i can do what i want
what color are your eyes
brown
âblackâ / dark enough brown to look black
hazel
green
blue
heterochromia button
obvs this poll isnât gonna get as much traction as the poll blogâs will, but itâll still be interesting to look at the results of it and compare them methinks
(bee tee dubs if your eyes change color based on lighting answer with the color they are most often. pick whatever color youâd put on a legal ID. also the heterochromia button is there with complete heterochromia in mind but if you have central/sectoral heterochromia and feel none of the other options fit you then. go for it i suppose)
I'm so glad to see AO3 making it absolutely clear that none of these things are allowed to even be HINTED at.
Here's some of the language from the new post about AO3's police on commercial promotion:
-
There is a wide variety of things that are not allowed under AO3's non-commercialization rules.
Any other language which one might interpret as requesting or having requested financial contributions, whether for yourself or others. This covers indirect references, euphemisms, or other language intended to get around the TOS. Some examples of this include:

Here's the crazy thing, folks. You *can* day things like "My Tumblr is [username], come over and scream into the void about these blorbos with me!" And then plaster your kofi all over your Tumblr. You can say "Thanks to [someone] for suggesting this fic! I listen to people's suggestions all the time on Tumblr!" for literally any reason someone told you to write a fic.
It's not hard to filter out the things you shouldn't say based on environment. Back when I was in high school you'd hear about all the fun someone had that weekend, but they wouldn't say there was drinking and weed and throwing firecrackers into a campfire where a teacher or parent could hear them.
The reason we're not allowed to post monetary links or use any language alluding to it on AO3 is for our protection. If a copyright holder wants to sue a fan writer for making money or demand their work be taken down as "property" of the copyright holder, AO3's lawyers need to be able to defend us by saying money isn't being made and not perjuring themselves.
It's a LEGAL issue. AO3 has no issues with writers earning money. Just not directly via their platform. Not enough people seem to understand this. There's a very long history of copyright holders throwing their weight around and taking a hatchet to fandom spaces using legal backing, and we're trying to avoid that.
It's more than that though. It's not just about protecting their asses, legally. It's also about the principles and values upon which AO3 was built.
AO3 came out of an exlicitly anti-monetization fan culture. You will hear the founders of AO3 use the term "gift economy" a lot if you follow any of their socials, which is another way of saying "mutual aid economy."
AO3 is a non-profit organization built and coded and maintained by volunteer labor and charitable donations.
Understand that when you try to use the AO3 platform to monetize, you are not just monetizing your own labor as a fan creator. You are also monetizing the volunteer labor of everyone who built that platform.
And they will tell you that they are NOT OKAY with you exploiting THEIR LABOR, THEIR HOURS UPON HOURS OF CODING AND TAG WRANGLING AND ORGANIZING AND FUNDRAISING, for your personal gain.

ââIn Gaza, even dreams need a place to take shelter.â
Ihyaa is a Gazan youth-led initiative to provide a safe space for Gazan youth to develop themselves professionally. The initiative aims to provide a venue with reliable internet free of charge for young Gazan professionals.
In the current climate, it is really difficult to connect to a stable and reliable WiFi connection, and this makes it incredibly difficult to conduct business and pursue education. And many venues which have reliable WiFi connections charge fees for people to connect and benefit from the internet connection. Professionals who rely on the internet are having to spend portions of their income, which should rightfully be spent feeding their families, on sitting in a venue and connecting to its WiFi.
The current goal of Ihyaa is to set up a venue and to cover initial costs. They have an initial goal of ÂŁ2,000. After the first month, however, they will also need upkeep costs, and any extra funds will go to improving the space and providing opportunities for professionals and students alike, such as skill-building courses.
follow @ihyaafoundation for more information and updates! They will be posting photos and videos as things develop.
