Crowley and Aziraphale's choice did not wipe out humanity. Everyone and everything was already gone.

That was not the plan for the Second Coming. That would have caused a war between heaven and hell that killed humanity and destroyed earth.

Michael wiped out humanity, earth and the entire universe by destroying the book of life.

No Alpha Centauri. Nowhere for them to go except staying in an empty bookshop with nothing else and God and Satan being able to pop in whenever they want?

God basically gave them a choice between having it all back as it was (with them never being free of heaven and hell and inevitably having another Second Coming, a Great Plan and war that destroys earth) or living in a world of nothing forever.

Instead they chose to break free and make a new universe were none of that could exist, including them and including God.

They would never have been left alone, heaven and hell always dragged them back into it. They would have never been free, or happy together. So they stood in front of God and told her to go fuck herself.

Don't tell me they lost.

Something I’ve noticed across a lot of posts of folks who hated the finale is the conclusion that Aziraphale and Crowley’s 6000 years together “meant nothing” because they didn’t get to have the happy ending they deserved (to live as themselves freely in the universe where their relationship developed). So much of the phrases “meant nothing” and “means nothing” and “never mattered.”

Maybe I’m less cynical than I thought I was because I had the exact opposite thought during that scene.

Their 6000 years together- so much history and friendship and turmoil and moral philosophizing and love - is what led them to make the decision they did. An entire new universe of humans with true free will was created from this love between them and also love for what continuously brought them together over thousands of years: humanity.

All of their experiences and 6,000 years together is not nothing. It did matter, it meant something - it means everything.

The end of time.

Aziraphale wanted to change things from the inside.

It didn’t work. Because that is how God intended it.

Inevitable.

They could have given up.

Let the book burn.

But they didn’t.

They made a decision together that was anything but giving up.

Giving up means letting things happen.

But Crowley stops God one last time.

And the two of them make a decision, together this time.

A difficult decision.

Imagine how much strength it must have taken them to decide that.

To give it your all is not to give up.

And they did give all.

Once again, I’m not trying to convince anyone, these are just things I think about when I wake up at night and I wanted to share them.

Just realized we have the proof Good Omens 3 still follows our real timeline (just like s1 and s2)

The meteor shower Anthony mentions and observes in the final scene is the Eta Aquariids, a meteor shower associated with Halley's Comet and visible in the Aquarius constellation. FYI, they were active from April 19 to May 28 with their peak around May 10 this year

The finale released on May 13, right during the peak

It's these kinds of lovely thoughtful details that makes me love Good Omens and rewatch it over and over again without getting tired of it. It's just perfect

the concept of a version of Aziraphale finally having a mother who loves him, who he talks about fondly and casually on his first date with Crowley… that makes me want to sob actually. I’m so glad he gets more than God in the end.
