A friend of mine is very open to her son trying out different things. When he wanted a pink shirt without glitter or print she looked high a low to find a shirt like that for a child his age (all the pink stuff for girls of course had either glitter or print on it)

Apparently he got teased in kindergarten for wearing pink nail polish, but they all thought it was very cool when he switched to blue, so he wore blue and green for several weeks until he tired of it.
