Today, my mum said there’s 도 (philosophy) in washing the dishes. When she finishes cleaning all the big, easy dishes and has only the silverware left, it seems burdensome and energy-consuming to wash all those small individual pieces. So she’d sigh and save the silverware for later, slipping off her purple rubber gloves. But when she stopped thinking and started washing each stainless steel spoon, each pair of chopsticks and scissors, one by one, suddenly there were only two big plates left to wash. And everything looked so simple.

Hawaiʻi is currently in the midst of a natural disaster if you didnt know

Apparently there isn’t much news coverage of this outside of the islands

Towns are flooded, homes destroyed and collapsed, roads collapsed, lives at risk, gas leaks from the flood damage

Haleiwa and Waialua are currently evacuated because the 120 year old dam is at risk of bursting

Mind you that damn is owned by Dole. Theyve known about it needing to be fixed for years and years and years. Despite having more than enough money they refuse

The state has been trying to buy it out from them for years so they can fix it, but the sale hasn’t gone through

Keep in mind that the Dole family were the ones who illegally imprisoned Queen Liliuʻokalani and illegally overthrew the monarchy.

If I see another goddamn person say how sad this is for the tourists whose “trips were ruined” and compare a messed up vacation to people losing their homes, belongings, and livelihoods, I’m going to lose my mind

I am so lucky that my family or friend’s are safe and the few whose houses flooded didnt have it too bad, but so so so many were not as fortunate

This is all related to a massive rainstorm Hawai'i is experiencing that is the worst in 20 years (so I'm not sure it matters all that much about the monorail thing but I don't know enough about the matter and not impacted by it all to have a real opinion about it so not providing any fact checking on that, before anyone asks)

I’m sorry I just. I normally use Tumblr for escapism, but. What the fuck is happening with the coverage of Iran? Or lack thereof? Why are so few people and platforms giving this crisis the weight it deserves? Why are so many left-wing people I want to admire either staying silent or to some degree siding with the regime, from repeating the regime's propaganda to criticising the protestors? Why the hell is it right-wing people I despise, and otherwise wholeheartedly disagree with, talking the most about Iran?

Like. I think I kind of know why. A myriad of sociopolitical reasons, including self-interest and racism and ignorance and misguided 'enemy of my enemy' thinking about the Islamic world vs bastards like Trump and Netanyahu. But I'm still appalled. None of that can justify turning a blind eye or cold shoulder to the worst massacre in modern Iranian history. And the Iranian people have suffered a lot of massacres! Mostly at the hands of their own government and police force!

I've been seeing and reblogging so many posts about the ICE situation in the USA (which makes sense, because almost half the users of this site live there), and... listen. That gives me a nice point of comparison. What's happening in America, with Trump and ICE and all of that, that's awful. It's horrendous. It makes my blood boil. It is the tip of the iceberg. What the Islamic Republic is doing in Iran is the entire frozen mass around the North Pole. On every front, it is worse. Totalitarianism? Oppression? Corruption? Unjust policing? Religious extremism? Misogyny? Homophobia? Environmental devastation? Economic divide and insecurity? Abuse of power? Name an issue you have with Trump, and the mullahs are doing it a million times worse. That's why I'm so disappointed that he's the only world leader who said - even temporarily - that he would provide the foreign aid that is urgently needed. He and Supreme Leader Khamenei (that is his real title) are cut from the same vile cloth!

So if the USA makes my blood boil when I live in the UK... you can imagine how I feel about Iran, my father's homeland. I'm going fucking crazy.

Yes, it is essential that people pay attention and spread the truth of the Ugly Shitstorm of America, in order to hopefully prevent that nation from going further down its dark path. The Islamic 'Republic' is at the end of that same path. It is a textbook dystopia. The rulers and servants of this regime have been starving, terrorising, brutalising, imprisoning, torturing and murdering countless citizens, both for protesting against it and for literally any other reason, since 1979. That's when my dad left at fifteen, when his parents sent him away to get out of there as the shit hit the fan. Right now, my grandparents are over there. Right now people are in crippling poverty, with a terrible water shortage due to the regime's management and environmental exploitation. People are being slaughtered. Gunned down in the streets. Locked away in horrific conditions. Children are being raped and executed. This is all routine.

What's different this time is the unprecedented scale and unity of the protests. This time, maybe, just maybe, some real positive change might actually be accomplished. But probably not without any outside help.

So if you disapprove of ICE, if the events in America frighten, anger or disgust you - hell, if you disapprove of Nazi Germany - please support Iran. Try not to let over 1600 brave protestors die in vain. And make damn sure it's the Iranian people you're supporting, not the monsters trying to crush them.

I wrote this in the comments below and wanted to re-blog it because.. I’m a student journalist in the US & what I’ve noticed from covering Iran is that mainstream US media has not been covering Iran nearly 15% as much as it does with everything else going on within the country under the Trump admin. Perhaps it’s because US issues are much more urgent & near to us than Iran issues. Naturally.

Of course, it’s deeply depressing what the Islamic regime in Iran is doing to the Iranian people and their environment, which they depend on to survive. And yes, Trump verbally supported the Iran protests. But when he’s ruining everything else for us & inducing fear every single day & doesn’t TRULY care about the Iranians, given his recent shift in attention away from the protests and his neglect to carry out a solid plan to help the Iranians, what can we—the U.S. public—actually do about it? What does supporting Iran actually look like, besides donating & speaking up? Trump won’t do shit.

As the US public, we are already spending so much energy & time trying to save OUR democracy and nation. We are already struggling to stay afloat. That is the pure truth. How can we help effectively while defending ourselves? That’s what we should be talking about.

sesame street has been meeting kids where they were at since the 70s, and in the 70s, POC kids were in some pretty scary places. what contemporary white parents might perceive as a sudden dystopian horror is, sadly, the level of trauma, violence, insecurity, and fear that a lot of non-white families have had to navigate for generations. it has always been hard and heartbreaking for some families to try to protect their kids from knowing how dangerous the world is and how much some parts of it want them dead. now it's white parents time to join in that important work. i don't meant to scold, but i want to remind: generations of kids have taken much-needed messages of comfort and solace from sesame street, and the people there have always known, since the start, how much we need bravery and compassion. it's not about innocence and it's not about ignorance: it's about love. this is their entire mission, and they're staying strong. we can too.
