Buzz buzz. Her phone hadn’t stopped ringing ever since it’d woken her up in the early hours of the morning. At this point, she’d grown numb to the noise, stuffing it into her back pocket to put off needing to deal with it until later. After the first hour, she’d genuinely considered giving the messages some attention. But the feeling had passed quickly upon remembering that it wasn’t her father putting in so much effort into contacting her, but his secretary. And while she’d felt somewhat guilty, Ahreum decided to shove those thoughts far away instead of remaining hung up on them.

As she wandered around looking for someone— anyone— to distract her from it all, her eyes caught sight of a familiar figure walking down the house’s staircase. “Hey!” She shouted out from above, the excited expression on her face being wiped away as soon as she’d become consciously aware of it. The girl began to race down the stairs in order to catch up with her housemate before they had a chance to leave. 

“Um,” Once managing to catch up to them, Ahreum cleared her throat with a stifled cough. “Are you busy?” She was still a relatively new face around the house and still unfamiliar with a few of the others in the house, but still she hoped the other would be willing to stick around with her for the day.

He wasn’t sure where this surge of energy came from, but he was feeling great that afternoon. Yujun woke up at an appropriate time, for him, and didn’t feel the lingering effects of the previous night in the slightest. Usually, he’d be loafing around until his shift started at the bar, but he had managed to drag himself out of bed and get ready in record time. Of course, his hair still looked like a fried mop and his eyebags were ever prevalent, but he was showered and dressed —  that counted for something, right?

Yujun hummed a little tune as he walked back to his room, a brilliant idea coming to mind as he pushed the door open. Without a second thought, Yujun drops his clothes and towel onto his bed before going straight to his closet. It’d been a while since he had the motivation to do a cover, so obviously he wasn’t going to let this momentum go to waste.

Trusty guitar in hand, Yujun practically skips down the stairs, to the shared living quarters, with the giddiness of a child. Once there, he plopped himself onto the couch and began tuning, feeling thankful that everyone was probably at work and he had the space to himself. He wasn’t a shy person, far from it, but he found it easier to focus when he was alone.  

The preparations were done for the most part. His guitar was tuned, his headphones were plugged in and tested for sound quality. Yujun was good to go, his hands moving on their own, dancing from string to string, before his brain could catch up. He so needed this. 

Feeling a little more confident than before, words began streaming out of his mouth

What did he sound like, he wondered. He didn’t like his voice the many times he’d heard it in recordings. It sounded foreign compared to what he heard when he spoke.

Yujun felt like was doing great that, with a bit more practice, he could record this cover and post it whenever he had time. Lord knows that he’d been leaving his small following hanging since he’d moved to Andante.

His fingers slowed to a halt as he let out a sigh. So close, he thought as he pulled off his headphones. Even when he was putting in effort, he couldn’t hit that note without sounding pitchy. Oh well, at least no one’s around to hear him.

OPEN FOR ANYONE

It was late when Soo found herself in the kitchen after finishing getting ready for her night. Weekends were her favorite days, not only because her days off from being a waitress landed on it but because those were the days she did what she loved the most, sing. True, the place was no stadium full of people who wanted to hear her yet she loved it far to much to care, one day she would make it big as long as she kept trying, she was sure. Soo looked at her watch and knowing she had some time to spare before she needed to go,  the female made a quick stop in the kitchen wanting to end her thirst and hunger before leaving. With clumsy actions, Soo opened the door of the fridge and picked a big bottle of juice she had bought on her last trip to the convenience store. After struggling with the cap for a couple of minutes, Soo finally opened the bottle and without second thoughts she raised it to her lips, drinking quite a lot of it in just one big glup that was until she made eye contact with someone entering the kitchen surprising her, which didn’t end quite favorably  for her.

Soo coughed trying to compose herself while closing the bottle of juice as if she hadn’t almost choked five seconds ago due to the surprise and embarrassment of someone finding her drinking such big bottle of juice (without a glass like any decent person would) all by herself.  “ What’s up, buttercup? ” She spoke once she finished her coughing fit, a sheepish smile decorating her features as she did. “ Is there anything you want me to buy from the store? ” She said, cheeks still pink from embarrassment rather than the cough “ I’m going to go and buy more house supplies tomorrow…” The staff tried to play it cool, and failed. Clearing her throat Soo smiled brightly once again, “ Why are you up so late?” She asked “ Got any plans for tonight? ”

&—  “ oh please. come onnn. we cannot stay cooped up inside forever. it’s starting to become the holiday season anyways, isn’t this supposed to be a fun time ?  with all the decorations ?  lights ?  warm cocoa on park benches ? i know not everyone celebrates or likes them, buuuuuut. ”  there’s a frown as slender fingers fold to create a platform for the woman’s chin, gaze looking over to the other in question as she puts on her best puppy dog eyes from where she was seated at the communal dining table. jakyung had grown bored of sitting around in her room day in and day out and rightfully so: her routine had seemingly begun to blend together in such a jumbled and messy blur she felt as if she couldn’t tell right from left sometimes. and plus, streaming from the confinements of her bedroom ( while, for the record, not usually a problem ) resulted in a faux “ woe is me ” mindset she so willingly chose to adopt because of the impending holiday season. that, and an upcoming birthday during said season. dramatic, isn’t she ( or, rather, maybe this was an excuse to drag whoever it was to a new holiday themed cafe to try since she didn’t feel like attending alone ) ?

with another small sigh, jakyung juts her lower lip out at the other as she continues on, a whine emitting from her throat as she nearly complains.  “ listen. like ten minutes outside. it’s supposed to snow eventually. i proooomise i won’t take up tons of your time. and if you hate it, go back home !  i just dooooon’t want to stay inside any longer. i’ll even put you in my next video if we go somewhere new to try. pleaseeee ?  it doesn’t have to be a full day doing holiday-ish things. or whatever. maybe. either way !  ”  her lower lip juts out farther as she quiets down, anticipating the hopeful acceptance to her pleas from the other.

late nights.

it’s unfortunate, he thinks to himself, that now of all times he’s forgotten his house key.

digging into his pockets for the seventh time, as if it’ll somehow produce the missing key he’s looking for, proves fruitless again. he pulls out his hand, empty unsurprisingly, and sighs on the doorstep. he didn’t anticipate anything different, but he grows more anxious the longer he’s out here alone.

(damn late-night emergency clients.)

he glances around for ideas on how he might gain entrance. for a brief moment, he envisions himself attempting to sneak in through the back, but it’s more energy than it’s worth. the shock of a figure in the dark creeping in through the back would be enough to startle a few housemates, so for their sake, he quickly decides against it. alternatively, he has half a mind to pull out his phone and message someone — anyone — who might be inside at the moment. even so, though he knows there’s a few night owls in the share house, the hour is late, and he wouldn’t blame anyone inside for being asleep. ideally, he’d like to be too. it’s the reason that he hesitates once more.

he shivers in the late night november cold and pulls his cardigan tighter around him. with no solid plan, he resorts to knocking lightly on the door and hoping that someone would be downstairs to hear him.

it wasn’t so often that jaewon finds himself drinking, considering half of the time he was constantly around drunk people as well as being the one who creates those very specific drinks that is then consumed by said people. having been a bartender for quite a few years now meant that he had a good amount of skills up his sleeve, but it also meant that he didn’t choose to drink as often as some would think (mainly because he’s seen the state that some people got in, and he didn’t feel like ever finding himself in that same position). but after the all too hectic night working the previous night, he felt like he needed to let loose just a little bit.

so naturally, after a quick little trip to the 7/11 convenience store right by the andante share house, what other great place to be than to sit on the grass out in the backyard and listening to music on his laptop while drinking straight from a soju bottle? the night was young, but jaewon felt much younger with the way he was drinking and listening to old throwback songs. he was perfectly content just hanging by himself, enjoying his own company, so engrossed in the current song playing that he doesn’t realise the presence lingering behind him. he only realises when he turns to grab a fresh bottle of soju, and the little yelp that escapes his mouth is comedic. “ah, don’t creep up on me like that, i almost had a heart attack!”

         for seoyul, working very late nights had become painful routine by now. every single night she would sit in the shared kichen area until she fell asleep over her scattered papers and every single morning a different person would wake her up, bright and early, and ask her why she wasn’t asleep in her room. then she would apologise, thank them for waking her up and retreat to her bunk bed to try and squeeze in a few hours of proper sleep .. which usually didn’t really go as planned since she wasn’t living alone and most people had places to be, so her roommates normally woke up earlier than she would like them to. and so the vicious cycle continued.

           her eyes glanced over her locked phone when a message popped up, revealing the time. 11:56pm. not that late, she thought to herself. it was still early enough to say ‘fuck it’, call it a day and catch up with everything else tomorrow. the idea seemed so attractive and she truly considered it until another person waltzed into the room, causing her to lose her train of thought. so instead, she decided to see whether they would maybe be a bit of a help to her. “ hey, do you prefer gold or silver? ” the question was incredibly random but it wasn’t her fault the bride was that indecisive. ‘ you seem to have good taste, so just choose for me instead. i don’t want to be involved. ’ she had told her– how irritating.

kiha was still getting used to the house. two months and it still felt entirely new and still a little suffocating sometimes, something he just wasn’t entirely used to and didn’t really understand. it’s why he liked night time though when the hustle from the day was over and quiet set in towards the early hours where there was a lack of people awake ; like right now as kiha pondered over if he needed two cups of coffee for the night, or if he should just overload the first one and deal with the intense bitterness of the taste. it was probably a sight to be seen really, a tablespoon filled with the coffee grains in one hand hovering over a mug, and the other holding his second mug with a frown pulled over his face because both options were technically the same.. right? so lost in his own thoughts though and being alone, he hadn’t even noticed another person entering the kitchen until a noise hit his ears. kiha jumped, spoon clattering into the mug thankfully, and he kept a tight grasp on the other one too, but the loud ting of the metal against ceramic was still loud in the far too early morning hours– 

“shit– sorry.. sorry. didn’t um– didn’t hear you,” he flailed weakly, turning to see who it was that was up with him now, apologising for his own instincts.

Haneul had just finished work and couldn’t wait to get home and relax. He should have known that relaxation wasn’t going to come easy. As soon as he walked through the door, he could sense that something was wrong. As he made his way to his room, he glanced into the kitchen to see that the dishwasher was leaking. The kitchen was well on it’s way to becoming a foam party. “Who loaded the dishwasher?!” He called out, not really wanting to deal with anyone, tonight.
