does anyone else also find a pattern in fanfic (in my experience, usually M/M) where they write a sex scene or something similar, take the less ‘out’ or experienced of the characters and make them so nervous and the other so confident to the point that the consent feels very dubious?

i don’t mean fics where ‘dubious consent’ is clearly tagged, but fics where it’s just meant to be pwp or something like that. i also think it’s typically seen in more amateur writers.

there is definitely value in have pwp consisting of a nervous ‘new-to-this’ character and a confident one showing them the ropes, but y’all can we start putting some more clear consent in? the lack of it is freaking me out

i promise it does not ruin the scene and is very standard practice for both first-time hookups and long-term sexual partners to regularly and clearly check in and give feedback

And! We need cashiers. And convenience stores. And I think it's kind of broken that society says people who want to do stuff like that have "low" ambition (not you OP, I get you're using it illustratively because that's what society labels said jobs) and don't deserve to live at the same standard as people with "high" ambitions.

If we need someone to do a job, that job is a role in the community and deserves not just a salary but cultural respect for the role.

"high" ambition jobs are all jobs that involve domineering and controlling others. "low" ambition jobs are all jobs that involve service to others. Have you noticed? Because I have noticed.
