Just a reminder that minimum wage for wait staff in most states is $2.13 an hour. Not tipping really isnāt an option.
Dudes. If the person does not perform their job in a respectful manner then sometimes they donāt deserve a tip. Itās not always because people are cheap.
dude, iāve worked as a server. i made $2.13 an hour because tipped employees are expected to earn enough tips to bring them up to minimum wage. i had people with $100 checks who left me TWO CENTS because their steak came out before their salad did. i had $200 group checks who ran me ragged getting this and that and then left me nothing because their fries were cold. i had one particularly nasty group of teenagers who left my tip in change in the bottom of a milkshake glass, all because i had ten other tables and i couldnāt get everything they wanted when they wanted it. i could work 16-hour shifts and still come home with only $20 to show for it, half of which immediately went into my car for the fuel to drive back and do it all over again the next day. my boss had to give me food from the kitchens because i was literally starving, and it didnāt help that if we had a slow night and none of the servers got paid very much, we all had to split our tips. can you imagine having to share your already-miniscule pay with someone who did half as much work as you did just because they didnāt get as much business?
i donāt care how slow, clumsy, confused, or bad at their job they are - you donāt know what the reason is, and if you decide they deserve to starve because you think you getting your salad on time is more important than whether or not theyāre going to have anything to show for a dayās work, then yes, youāre cheap, and self-centered besides. unless your server cusses you out and intentionally throws your dinner on you, TIP THEM.
also, often times if someone isnāt doing their job well or seems crabby when they come to your table, theyāve probably just had a shitty table. and often times if someone isnāt super quick with running food, they arenāt lazy, theyāre busy. no one in a restaurant wants you to be waiting.
my checks i get are literally $0. every two weeks, $0. i depend on people who come into the restaurant i work at to make money. half the time it sucks and half the time itās more than enough and itās awesome. but i bust my ass far too often for cheap assholes. i wish yāall would learn to tip more than 10% or just go to the mcdonaldās down the street for a burger.Ā
Tipping is so important. Donāt be a cheap asshole.
And if youāre dining in a restaurant pre-paid for, servers arenāt getting additional pay on top of our paychecks. I work in a buffet-style restaurant catering to 60+ people at a time, alongside a maximum of THREE other waitstaff (one of whom has to be on the bar at all times) and in my two years working there, weāve been tipped ONCE. We work phenomenally hard and long days, plus our dishwashers donāt work so we have to do all the washing up BY HAND in a tiny communal kitchen. PRE-PAID RESTAURANTS DONāT INCLUDE SERVERSā TIPS IN THE PRICE. Tip your goddamn servers.
I work in a customer service environment but luckily over the phones and I know just what it's like to be dealing with some dickhead customer thinking they deserve the world because of that pathetic "customer is always right" shit (only sometimes are they right and usually those customers are lovely people! But most of the time just trying to get shit for free!) and then still having to deal with bad feedback at the end. I just count myself lucky I don't work for tips. So I always tip.

Why 'Free the Nipple' is happening
If my brother goes to a beach and takes his top off, itās a beach If I go to a beach and take my top off, itās a nude beach
If my boyfriend takes his top off because he is warm, he is cooling off If I took my top off because I was warm, it would be illegal
If my dad was in a magazine shirtless, he would be modelling If I was in a magazine shirtless, it would be seen as porn
If a guy runs around with his top off for no reason, nobody questions it If I was to breast feed my child however, which is totally natural and not at all sexual, I could be asked to put my breast away because I was making others feel āuncomfortableā
PLEASE support #freethenipple because it is so so so important and will help make everyones bodies equal

No wait I have more to say about Bi Tumblr Ideas Iāve decided
For the longest time, I didĀ believe that the request for bi folks toĀ āpick a sideā was a part of biphobic rhetoric that didnāt have a direct parallel in homophobic rhetoric.
Over time, though, Iāve come to understand something: the adageĀ āpick a sideā does not come from a desire for everyone in the world to be either straight or gay, but to remove the possibility of same-gender attraction existing alongsideĀ āoppositeā-gender attraction.
The existence of a bi person who continues to identify as bi for the remainder of their life threatens straight people because it indicates that āoppositeā-gender attraction, the āsuperiorā one, can exist concurrently with same-gender attraction. This ruinsĀ a lot of the filters through which liberal straight people are able to accept same-gender attraction (i.e. they canāt help it, they wouldnāt choose this if they had the option to be straight, it could never have been me because I like theĀ āoppositeā gender).
So when a straight person is telling you toĀ āpick a side,ā they are telling you that their acceptance of gay people rests on the grounds that they can be definitively defined asĀ āother;ā they are notĀ telling you that they feel comfortable with gay sexuality.
Iāve always suspected that straight people feel threatened by the existence of bisexuality because they feel too comfy in a world where everyone is assumed straight until proven gay. Youāll hear them say things like āobviously Iām not gay, Iām married to Jane!ā
They really enjoy how easy it is to say āno homoā and the existence of bisexuality threatens that. In a world where bisexuality is viewed as more legitimate, Tom being married to Jane is no longer evidence that Tom is a 100% heterosexual manly man.
