I am autistic and I can't stop stimming for long periods even If I try, my stimming usually hurts me and can hurt other people as well. I dig my nails into my skin, I used to hit my head against things that were hard, now I hit my head against air or things that are softer.

Stimming is good for many autistic people, yes, but I think that we do need to recognize that it is still a symptom of a disorder and it can be painful or stressful or even dangerous. Stimming, like every aspect of autism, is a spectrum.

No, this is NOT saying that autistic people should be "trained" away from stimming or some bullshit. Nor am I saying that autistic people who have nothing harmful about their stimming should be told to stop.

But if someone is hurting themselves, they should be given ways to decrease the harm or stress, to cope with it. like with me hitting my head against a hard pillow rather than a wall or the floor.

that's what autistic therapy should be about: helping and decreasing harm. I wish that it was more of that and less of "you arent normal, so we're going to force you to act more normal while also neglecting you"

I fucking hate that the general response to RFK Jr's eugenist take on autistic people is "autistic people do pay taxes, autistic people do work, autistic people do date!"

Some autistic people don't and that shouldn't make them less worthy of life. Some autistic people do need constant help and support and that shouldn't make them less worthy of life.

Once again we're falling in the right wing trap of :

They make a hateful, fascist statement

Instead of focusing on the fact that it is hateful and fascist we try to show them that they are factually wrong

We throw our own allies and the most vulnerable of us under the bus in the process

We legitimise an only slightly less hateful, fascist view as we go

They have completed their goal of making us accept the still hateful, fascist second version, hurrah. What a victory.

Right now what we're getting to with that is that autistic people who can work and pay taxes are okay, and the others aren't. Fuck this shit.

Same thing happens with the people who are being deported ("they have a visa!", "they didn't even have a criminal record!" -> even if they didn't have a visa, even if they did have a criminal record, deporting them and detaining them in what's essentially a concentration camp wouldn't be okay, you absolute tools of fascism.)

What RFK is saying: "Autistic people can't work, so it's our duty as a society to erase autism" -> This is eugenics

Harmful response: "Many autistic people do work!" -> Validates the belief that that someone being unable to work is shameful and makes them a lesser person, and implies that autistic people should not need support

Correct response: "Yes, many autistic people can't work, so it's our duty as a society to make sure they are supported, you fascist asshole" -> Accepts the realities of disability and values the lives of disabled people, names the actual problem here

Our fellow was raped several months ago while she was on her way to fetch water. She was alone because the rest of us had gone to the UNHCR field office to collect our documents. There was no water at home, and she wanted to cook for us, so she went by herself.

At the water point, she was attacked and raped by four men. What hurts me most is that I was not there to protect or help her. We reported the case to the police, but despite promises of an investigation, we have received no updates and no justice.

Thankfully, she did not contract HIV, but she became pregnant as a result of the rape. Doctors told us that ending the pregnancy would be too risky and advised her to continue it until delivery.

Two days ago, after nine painful months, she gave birth to a baby boy. During delivery, she developed serious complications and needed emergency surgery. The UNHCR hospital referred us to a private hospital, but we had no money to pay. I begged the doctors to save her life, and thankfully the surgery was successful.

Now we are burdened with a $750 medical debt. We also cannot afford the medicines she needs, or basic items for the baby such as clothes, diapers, and other essentials. She is still recovering and requires continued treatment.

The stress and pressure are overwhelming, and I feel lost because I do not know what to do next. I do not want to lose her. For her safety and dignity, I also want to keep her identity private.

I am sorry for only sharing this now, and I am sorry for bringing my problems to you so often. This is the difficult situation we are facing, and I do not know where else to turn.
