Introducing: Community Labels
As you know, art and artists make Tumblr what it is. We want everyone on Tumblr to be able to fully express themselves while also having control over what they encounter on their dashboards. That’s why we’re introducing Community Labels, an extension to your “Content you see” settings. Our ultimate goal is to create a more open Tumblr, and this is our first step in that direction.
As a poster and reblogger, Community Labels are your way to help your followers avoid anything they’d rather not come across on their dashboards.
As a follower, setting your content preferences is a way to adjust your feed to your own comfort levels.
How does it work?
When creating new posts (or editing old posts), you’ll see controls allowing you to label your post as unsuitable for those filtering certain content types it contains.
When content is labeled, it will either be hidden, blurred, or displayed normally, based on each user’s preferences.
In your “Content you see” settings, you can now choose to show, blur, or hide content that depicts the following topics:
Drug and alcohol addiction: Contains discussions of substance abuse or addiction experience.
Violence: Contains violent or graphic content similar to what you might see in an age-restricted movie.
Sexual themes: Contains sexually suggestive subject matter, such as erotic writing or imagery.
Some examples of content that would require a community label:
Fanart of your favorite ship engaging with each other in…a very private moment
Euphoria GIFs showing Rue’s substance abuse
A movie trailer depicting graphic war scenes
A graphic 50 Shades of Grey edit
This doesn’t change our content policies: spam, hate content, and porn bots are still not welcome in the community. It’s also still important that we abide by app store rules, which means we need to make sure that mature content is only accessible to people who are old enough and have opted in to view that type of content. More information about Community Labels is available in the Help Center.
This is an opportunity to work towards a richer, more nuanced Tumblr experience while making sure everyone who enjoys using Tumblr can do so safely. That future we mentioned above? We’re already moving towards it.
Bitches, I just might be coming back because of this… holy shit
me having a relatively normal one thinking about lucius and izzy as mirrors to each other, each serving as either an informal or literal first mate to stede and ed, being the characters who have the most influence over their respective captain’s emotional choices, one as the first explicitly queer character on the show, who openly speaks and jokes about his sexuality in a positive way, who flirts with multiple crew members, and izzy, who tries to turn that information into a negative thing and use it as blackmail, who embodies toxic masculinity and whose interactions with sexuality are steeped in ridicule and shame,
versus me realizing that they also mirror each other in that they both had a digit cut off with a pair of scissors,
versus me considering that lucius had to cut off his own finger off due to an infection that would’ve killed him while izzy’s toe was cut off in an act of control/dominance,
Stimming helps stimulate a person’s senses. It can be triggered by something in the environment or being in certain situation.
The significance of Ed’s red silk is heartbreaking in context. It’s the one luxury he’s had in his life and has been a lifelong reminder that he believes he can not and does not deserve good things. “We’re just not those kind of people and never will be.”
Every time he is belittled and demeaned, he stims with it, this physical and tangible reminder of the fact that this is all he gets. Never will be, echoes in his mind over and over and over again.
When the French captain mocks him and calls him a donkey despite all the work he’s putting in to learn how to be a gentleman, he turns to his silk. When the people at the party belittle him and laugh at him, he turns to his silk. When he’s been abandoned by the man he loves and mocked for “pining for your boyfriend”, he turns to his silk.
Each of these moments when he feels worthless. Even the final scene with the silk, he has a flashback to that one time when one person - just one person in his whole life - made him feel like maybe he did deserve something soft and fine. The one person who abandoned him without a word or an explanation after Ed gave up absolutely everything for him.
That’s the moment he finally believes his mother’s words. He is what he is. He’ll never be anything more than that. Why should he even have that piece of silk when it’s something that is never ever ever going to be within his reach?
Wait, wait, so you’re saying Blackbeard’s head… is made of smoke?
The fight is done. We lost. Stay hidden.
Of course I love you, Anakin.
*How to stop him crying
Quiet morning
It’s been over a month since the finale and I still can’t believe they did THAT™️. Like it wasn’t queerbait it was real. To have years and years of just scraps and then to have this unapologetically queer show with a ridiculously diverse cast come barrelling through. Not to mention the cast and crew being so outwardly supportive and interacting with fans. I mean it’s just so unbelievably refreshing and fills my heart with so much joy, I’m so excited to see where television is going and I think I speak on behalf of all minorities when I say THANK YOU!!!
