invented a chess opening called the lovers gambit where you toss the pieces aside and start kissing your opponent on the table
Amy Dunne: *drops mic*
(This is probably my favorite rant in literature)
Sounds like a spiritual successor to this:
“I tried to imagine what it would be like if Constantin were my husband.
“It would mean getting up at seven and cooking him eggs and bacon and toast and coffee and dawdling about in my nightgown and curlers after he’d left for work to wash up the dirty plates and make the bed, and then when he came home after a lively, fascinating day he’d expect a big dinner, and I’d spend the evening washing up even more dirty plates till I fell into bed, utterly exhausted.
“This seemed a dreary and wasted life for a girl with fifteen years of straight A’s, but I knew that’s what marriage was like, because cook and clean and wash was just what Buddy Willard’s mother did from morning till night, and she was the wife of a university professor and had been a private school teacher herself.
“Once when I visited Buddy I found Mrs Willard braiding a rug out of strips of wool from Mr Willard’s old suits. She’d spent weeks on that rug, and I had admired the tweedy browns and greens and blues patterning the braid, but after Mrs Willard was through, instead of hanging the rug on the wall the way I would have done, she put it down in place of her kitchen mat, and in a few days it was soiled and dull and indistinguishable from any mat you could buy for under a dollar in the Five and Ten.
“And I knew that in spite of all the roses and kisses and restaurant dinners a man showered on a woman before he married her, what he secretly wanted when the wedding service ended was for her to flatten out underneath his feet like Mrs Willard’s kitchen mat.” -Sylvia Plath, The Bell Jar, 1963
Gone Girl was published in 2012. Looking at Amy Dunne and Esther Greenwood’s monologues side-by-side, it shows just how little men’s expectations for their wives/girlfriends have changed in the intervening 49 years.

‘Agamemnon,’ Aeschylus (translated by Anne Carson)
incidentally, i’m going to hell for laughing at this.
the fact that "brands of water" is a statement that makes sense makes me hate consumerism and capitalism with every fiber of my being. imagine commodifying a NATURAL RESOURCE (not to mention beverage companies monopolizing in areas with unsafe drinking water) NESTLE DIE BITCH
It’s really fascinating and unexpected that Biden used his newly found political leverage that we willingly granted him to double down on destroying the left, rather than attempt any progressive reform at all. Really just a freak occurrence that nobody saw coming
I’m kinda meh about roof gardens/ grass roofs bc they can accumulate a lot of weight and collapse/ cause leaks
But living walls? Mighty sexy
They provide natural insulation, which not only keeps the heat in during cold days, but keeps the heat out during hot ones. It’s better planned and maintained than vines (depending on the plant ofc).
Flooding in urban areas can be reduced since the roots and the growing medium will hold in moisture. Air can be purified, and heat can be reduced because of evaporation.
I just love living walls
Imagine cities that are also forests and prairies because they actually make an effort to integrate nature into all of their surroundings
This solves the problem of loving vines but knowing theyre bad for the infastructure while also being super eco friendly and ALSO really witchy and I love it
loneliness really does advance and strengthen like once it makes a home in you it's so hard to feel like your place is with others and it's so easy to get out of practice at sharing who you are because by that point being on your own is an integral aspect of your existence and there's just no way to explain that to anybody
“So many liberal dudes are sexual predators” “So many leftist dudes are sexual predators” “So many conservative dudes are—“ It’s just dudes..
Reminder that it costs more daily to keep someone in prison than most prisoners have ever stolen and certainly much more than it'd cost to fix the poverty that drives almost all crime, it just exists to scare people out of hurting corporate profit and you foot the bill woth your taxes.
I feel like this tweet perfectly showcases my general objection to the use of the term “Karen” when there’s no male equivalent. A huge part of the reason we’re dying is Trump and his mostly-male cronies, not to mention all the men out there protesting to play golf and get a haircut.
But the soccer moms are an easy target and are partially responsible so, sure, let’s just blame them.
Men are more likely to not wear face masks.
Men aged 19-24 were more likely to break lockdown, a majority of people aged 13-24 were found to be not complying with the hygiene rules.
Men and people under 25 were most likely to believe in Covid misinformation.
Not only is this vitriol towards middle aged women sexist and ageist (for want of a better word), but its also actively harmful, because a lot of people are viewing wearing masks as weak and compliant, which is one of the factors believed to be leading men to not wear masks. A lot of campaigns to get people to wear them are starting to look at the gender difference specifically, and flipping the genders like this is doing nothing but damage.
Also I would like to reiterate how honestly sexist it is that people are just automatically blaming women when all studies I’ve ever seen about demographics complying or not all are saying men are more statistically harmful to the covid prevention effort than women are. The age thing is ridiculous as well when young people are far more harmful.
Ive honestly been looking for a while and I have yet to see any study that suggest middle aged women are even equally likely to be pulling BS than young men, or middle aged men, or young women, let alone predominantly responsible for continued spreading.
Most middle aged women are the primary caregivers for both their children and their aging parents, meaning they’re more likely to want to avoid catching Covid because they actually have other people depending on them. They don’t want to bring Covid home where they could spread it to their aging parents or aging in-laws. They don’t want to get so sick that they can’t care for their young children who are still dependent on her for care.
Meanwhile men, especially young childless men, as far as they’re concerned are the center of the fucking universe and other people’s health and safety are the last things on their mind.

quirky queen Jodi Arias doing a handstand and singing to herself during interrogation
this was literally such a life lesson to me like even when we are at our darkest we can and must find the time to care for ourselves
