i like the word slop but i wish it wasnt used to flippantly to describe anything someone dislikes. to me true slop isnt just 'cute fun relatively substanceless thing you use to pass the time', its low-effort and meaningless, made to conform and churn a profit and nothing else. it has to have no soul. genAI is slop. shitty extended universe marvel movies are slop. overproduced sanitized top 40 hits are oftentimes (but not always) slop. ad-infested mobile games are slop. advertisements in general are slop. unethically made mass-produced cheap clothing made for microtrends on tiktok is a sort of slop in it's own right but thats not really media
