Somebody writes JARRICH hate fuck please
So obviously that last scene with Richard and Jared was confusing and upsetting. It was going about how I would’ve expected until Richard entered the house. At that point … what the hell happened?
Up until now, the show has maintained this sort of weird extended metaphor where the relationship between a CEO and COO is like a romantic relationship. We saw this last season with Dana and Ben, where Richard doing business with them was facetiously compared to cheating, and Richard naming Jared as his COO was like them getting married. But only in the metaphor; none of those people were actually dating. Similar stuff with Jared leaving for a minute at the end of season four. I thought this episode was just going to be more riffing on that theme, with Gwart being Jared’s rebound CEO.
But that scene just now got really intense. I don’t quite understand what Richard objected to about Gwart specifically, or his reaction when he met her in person for the first time. Was something about her appearance unexpected? And – this is the important bit, really – why did he call her Jared’s “code girlfriend”?
I feel like there was a breach in protocol here. Up until now, the CEO / COO metaphor has stayed strictly a metaphor, and been pretty tongue in cheek at that. When Richard said “code girlfriend”, they got dangerously close to acknowledging an actual love triangle. And then where they normally would’ve played the scene for a laugh, they instead allowed it to get even more serious. Unusual stuff.
true performance art.
true incels are literally indistinguishable from satire bc they really all do talk Like That but once again, just to confirm:
