It’s like people can’t understand that utilising logic and reason is just a way of looking at the world, where do people get this idea that those of us who have this perspective think we’re super-intelligent or superior? I don’t feel that way at all. No non-believers I’ve ever known have felt that way as far as I know.

Okayyyy this whole thing is a mess because, and this is coming from an agnostic, at least 95% of atheists/other agnostics I’ve met and interacted with believe that they’re superior for not having religion. And they tend to bash people who are religious, by calling them unintelligent and illogical. People get this idea because this is literally the name we’ve made for ourselves, and it’s disgusting. Like I hate even saying the words “I’m atheist/agnostic,” because it’s been given a bad connotation by, very literally, the very people that practice it.

Just trying to explain this separation can be offensive to believers.

If 95% of atheists you’ve met have been jerks, you should probably reevaluate who you hang out with rather than judging the motivations of a group of people who really only have non-belief in common.

It's not an atheist's place to be critical of religion unless you're certified in it. You can be critical of the practitioners, but being critical of religion is a whole different story. It's literally not that hard.

Most people don't interpret atheists falsely when they say that they act pompous and superior. No matter how hard you deny it, it just makes me think you're probably one of them.

Also, yeah, because random people I meet and talk to for 15-45 minutes are people I regularly hung out with. Definitely.
