You gotta read and watch some old books and films that aren’t 100% modern politically correct. I’m not saying you should agree with everything in them but you need to learn where genres came from to understand what those genres are doing today and where media deconstructing old tropes is coming from.

Also, more often than you might think, they’re not actually promoting bigotry so much as “didn’t consider all the implications of something” or just used words that were polite then but considered offensive now.

When we choose to avoid history because it's Problematic or Says Bad Things, we are choosing to divorce ourselves from understanding how we came from that time to this one, which makes it even more likely for the cycle to repeat, with no one but a few people with shelves of old books aware that it's happened before.

and this shit's important. Media from the past tells us how people from the past acted and thought and behaved.

Plus, a lot of these media pieces were socially acceptable and/or progressive for their time. For example, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, while it contains a lot of words and ideas that are offensive now, was very progressive for its time. The book is a statement piece for how a young man who's grown up in a racist environment, with no words to explain himself other than racist and bigoted ones, decides that the whole system is shit and he's not going to follow those rules any more. So not reading or engaging with it because it uses the n-word a lot really misses the point.

From there it's not actually difficult to get the other soldiers onboard with covering up the fact that poor Ping took one for the team and got afflicted by the vagina curse, especially since it would have been all of them if they hadn't gotten the warning ahead of time. So they agree to help him cover it up, because obviously the army's not going to understand.

Shang is... tentatively glad that the men are bonding and getting along, even if they continue to be deeply weird about it.

I created Calvin and Lyra back in early 2022 and then stopped playing with their family in late 2022 because an update made the entire save

I may not have posted sims stuff in ages but I’ve been keeping up with The Sims Tree of the Meadows Family I used to post about here. Also been working on a Sims 3 family tree too but currently taking a break now.

I’m playing rotationally with the family since I’m invested in everybody and it’s kinda like an unofficial legacy challenge because I was using the family to get used to normal lifespan to start a proper legacy challenge but something stuffed up the save file and the plan was ruined. So I’m stuck with the unofficial chaotic legacy which is a bit more fun and lax for me instead of going full on into posting pretty photos with poses and concocting storylines.

I do want to try that old legacy plan again but differently. The Krystal Family had been a last name I kept using when I first started the Sims 3 and went on into the Sims 4 but less often. There was many different members across save files and I would’ve liked to have most of them exist in their own way in the same save file. Yet I like to use mods and Sims 4’s track record of being broken is very demotivating if I want to make a serious legacy challenge.

Oh well, if things look good in the future for the Sims and Paralives I might do that legacy one day

#I’d rather EA sell the sims franchise or Maxis becomes independent because the less crunch the better #I want the Sims 5 to be a combination of what great things each Sims games offered #if i can have that manifestation with a few other great ideas like having your sims pose for photos built into the game then I’d be happy #sorry this turned into a rant #the sims #the sims 4 #the sims tree #sims 4 #ts4 #sims family tree #sims 4 family tree #meadows family #sorry for the rant #i think i just see a lot of great potential for the sims franchise and I just want to see it get better not deteriorate like this
