Someone wrote that my stuff looks serious but is silly 80% percent of the time and I laughed but now I'm slighty nervous about posting too much silly stuff.
Anyway... this is the last of the screenshot overdraws I had on my wip, so I really hope i have enough energy to do bigger stuff on the side.
Oh, and a nice detail I wanted to point out is that I used the antlers of a Eucladoceros for oromë.
If u made a discord for all us hungry fans to interact i think that’d be so cool ❤️
Hahaha 1. I adore you. 2. Do you know how old I am??? I can just about figure out how to log into my own discord account to play D'n'D and i still always mess up 😭
I tell you what, I'm 98% through with this chapter. It's sitting at about 12k words to make up for being 5 months late. I'll put a note at the end, and if there's an appetite, I'll Google how to make one and do it.
Annnddd because getting asks always makes my day, here's a section of the next chapter to tide you over:
---
She’d almost resigned herself to spending her time in limbo until they were eventually shipped home, until salvation in bespectacled form walked through the canteen doorway one morning.
“I found something.” Howard said, hovering by the door. It whooshed shut behind him quietly.
She eyed him warily. “Your sense, maybe?”
He deflated and she immediately felt bad. He hadn’t known, she reminded herself. He hadn’t known and he’d always been kind to her, even when she was prickly old Leda.
This Leda – new Leda – probably owed him a little bit of that same kindness back.
“Sorry.” She said quickly, meaning it. “I didn’t mean that. It wasn’t fair.”
He shrugged, but saw the invitation in her apology and slunk into the room. His eyes darted about for the usual canteen worker, but they were mercifully alone. It didn’t give Leda much hope though, as a camera with a blinking red light in the corner of the room made sure to remind them that Big Aether was always watching. The entire canteen table squeaked when he took a seat on the opposite bench.
“I probably deserve it.” He said, taking a seat on the bench opposite her. The entire canteen table squeaked as he settled in.
“No.” She said firmly. “You don’t.”
Dad had plaited her hair the night before, but his fingers weren’t as deft as Lindir or Glorfindel’s had been. The simple French braids bulge in places where he’s unevenly gripped lengths of coils. She ran a hand over the bumps, taking comfort in the humanness of the imperfection.
Howard set down the items he had been holding on the table between them: a thick, waterlogged book with a deep blue cover, and a sleek black tablet.
The pages of the book puffed at the outer edges; it must have gotten half-drowned when the plane crashed. The plan crash seemed a million years ago now. For exactly two hours, it had been the biggest disaster outside of A&E that she’d ever lived through. And then she fell through the Vortice and lived through a war.
She set her half-eaten ham and cheese sandwich down, twisting her head to read the cover of the book. The Peoples of Middle Earth, it was titled in silver ink, J.R.R. Tolkien.
“You should hear the things Julian says.” He said, typing a passcode into the tablet. His joke fell
a little flat, marred by the hurt she spied in his eyes. She’d definitely missed something.
“He doesn’t mean them.” She tried.
His little smile was grim. “I think he does.”
Her shoulders slumped. What a total fucking mess. Somewhere on base, Louie was probably laughing ghoulishly as their motley crew ripped itself apart.
“So,” She tried her best Gildor impression to cheer him up. “What’s all this then?”
He looked grateful for the change of subject when he flipped the tablet and book around to face her. Confusingly, she saw the same cover as the book in greyscale pixels, before he tapped to the page he wanted her to see.
“Remember when we realised Tolkien got the date wrong for Gandalf and Glorfindel’s arrival?”
She cast her mind back. “Yeah. Vaguely. Tolkien said the year was around sixteen hundred for Glorfindel, right? And that Olorin wasn’t even supposed to be there for another couple thousand years. But Gandalf inferred that they arrived together, around sixteen fifty of the second age to
me. What about it?”
“So, here’s the thing,” He said, opening the book to a marked page and smoothing his palm along the inner spine to get it to stay open. Her flipped it around for her to view. “I don’t think Tolkien did get it wrong.”
three 'warm up' sketches I did a while ago. They are so silly and I love them. 1- Maeglin Aredhel 2-Andreth and Aegnor 3-Ecthelion, Glorfindel and Egalmoth just lost Aredhel.
Here are three portrayals of Sauron at different stages of his life: once as Sauron, or Gorthaur, once as Annatar, and once as Zigur, although I am never quite sure which hair color I want to give him in the Zigur version.
Thinking about it again, it’s an older piece, and in a newer version I’d probably go with a darker shade of red for Zigur's hair.
have you ever noticed how many of tolkiens characters are connected to the sea? or that quite a few water-related events take place throughout the ages? have you ever wanted to explore elven sea-longing or the vast mystery of what goes on underneath the waves in your work? do you love characters like ulmo, elwing, maglor and tuor? then come join tolkien sea week! a week for celebrating the repeated water and sea motifs in tolkiens work 🌊

𖥔 you can use any of the three words listed in the prompts for each day to inspire you to create something related to the sea within tolkien’s legendarium.
𖥔 when posting, tag @tolkienseaweek and use the hashtag #tolkienseaweek so we don’t miss your work! if you don’t do this, there is a pretty slim chance that your work will be seen by the moderators.
𖥔 you can create any kind of work you like! fanfic, art, moodboard, headcanons, gifsets, poems, anything you want.
𖥔 if you are posting your work on ao3, please add it to the collection that is linked HERE and in the bio.
𖥔 please give your work a title so we are able to list all the works at the end of the event in a masterlist. if you don’t, it will be called something like “day four” or “day seven”.
𖥔 you may post nsfw works, but please tag them accordingly. the same goes for extremely triggering topics, since this event can have heavier/angstier elements.
𖥔 absolutely no works using generative AI. if it is evident that gen AI was used in the creation of your work, it will not be reblogged onto the event account or endorsed by event runners.
𖥔 late submissions are accepted, both during the event and after the event ends! we will check the event tag for about a week after the event ends once a day, and past that you must tag either @tolkienseaweek or @silme-lorien if you want your work reblogged and added to the masterlist.
questions? check here ⋆˙⟡
what constitutes a character or event being connected to water?
if the character or event you are creating a work around has a main plot point that involves the sea, a river, a lake, or any body of water of that nature, it counts. we do ask that your work actually depicts the characters connection to the water (ie, because niënor throws herself into the sea, she counts. but writing a fic about her searching for túrin would not count unless you can incorporate the sea into that). if you have more specific questions, send an ask!
do my works have to be in-universe?
not at all! i don’t want to limit your creativity. but please, if you are going to create a work in an alternate universe, ensure that the character or event you are depicting maintains it’s connection to the water. it must be involved in your work in some way.
are original characters allowed?
sure! as long as you can connect them to tolkiens works and the sea, go ahead.
is it okay if i can’t do all the days?
of course! you can participate in one or all the days. whatever inspires you!
⋆ if you have a question and it was not answered here or you need more clarification, you can send an ask to the event blog’s inbox or @silme-lorien
we look forward to seeing your contributions ! see you in february, and keep an eye out for updates… 🌊 🦢
I've been writing and re-writing the next chapter of vile vortices for MONTHS. and I just cannot get past it. I can't seem to fit in all the information without it feeling like an info dump, and i can't plausibly get Leda back to Middle Earth without it sounding like I've bent the plot to my will and it's so frustrating!!! I feel like I'll never get out of Act 2 and I started this fic to prove I could finish it and now its been 7 years and we're STILL. HERE. 😭
I'm super stressed at the moment, so I have barely any time for fun, casual stuff. The only good thing is that I get to finish and show off the big stuff.
Anguirel and Maegnas. I like the headcanon that Sting is in reality Maeglin's dagger (the one with which he tried to kill Eärendil). I tried to redesign Sting a little bit while keeping the rough direction of the original. I thought long about what type of sword to make Anguirel but decided at the end for a zweihänder. I wanted something brutal and scary that would contrast with someone more sneaky like Maeglin. Anguriel is a relic of Eöl that Maeglin is trying to make his own until he fails ultimately at the end.
A Gildor Inglorion I did today because I wanted to finally have a design for him. I'm only half happy with him 🤔 the only problem is that it's probably just very difficult to not make all elves look the same when you can normally only switch between gold, silver and black.
Yikes. Unfollowing him now. I loved his whole vibe but I had no idea he was a powerful sorcerer and necromancer intent on enslaving and ruling over middle earth through the power of homemade jewlery
This was supposed to be warm up sketch but got kinda out of hand. Anyway Galdor was very fun and he must be quite the guy considering he survived the fall of Gondolin and the third kinslaying.
