FitzSimmons Appreciation Week ↳ Day 4: Quote Day

Okay, but this is my favorite because underneath the actual words, he’s saying, “It’s okay, I’m not going to expect anything, I know you didn’t mean it.” And she digs her heels in her very own Simmons way, “No, you don’t need to give me an out because I don’t want one.” She may not know how to say the words directly but she also knows she doesn’t need to because Fitz has always been able to understand her.

And just look at the effect it has on Fitz in the bottom set. In the 3rd, he’s trying to reconcile what she’s said with his own assumptions. Steeling himself against it because he doesn’t know how to process the fact that she might be saying what he hopes she’s saying. But then he lets himself hear it, lets himself believe that the feelings he’s had for so long are actually reciprocated, despite everything. The sun gets brighter on his face in the last gif as he slowly realizes that she wants a future with him just as much as he wants it with her. Literally realization is dawning on him.
