what's up, coming at you as one of those dirty-minded smut enjoying asexuals handing out water at the orgy or whatever the fuck people say. anyway, lately i get this kind of insidious sense that people think of sex-favorable aces as the "cool" aces. like "hey don't worry man, i'm asexual but you don't have to do anything to accommodate it." And of course it's a spectrum/umbrella, people can be asexual and sex favorable, i know that from experience. But i worry it's also seen as the *more palatable* version of asexuality.

So here's the reminder that you are not weird or prudish or childish or mean if you don't want people talking about sex around you. You are not morally reprehensible or puritan or fascist if sex makes you uncomfortable or upset. if someone tries to make you feel ashamed of that discomfort, or pushes your boundaries on purpose just because they can, they're the ones in the wrong for not respecting you. Never, ever compromise yourself for the sake of people who think you're less than for how you feel and who you are.

hey some good news at least ive been trying to figure out how to word a type of repulsion like romance repulsion but for being partnered in general not jsut romantic partnerships and i couldnt figure out how to say it like partner repulsed? but then i heard someone on here say partnership repulsed and thats it!!!

i dont really vibe with labels so its something i feel instead of something i am but still its nice to be able to explain that feeling

repulsed aro culture is being put off by the pre-relationship romantic fanservice in so many shows (e.g. when a character catches another character before they fall and they look at each other's faces with romantic background music for like 15 seconds)

my mom keeps talking about chinese dramas and some of them seem to have genuinely interesting premises (which is in general rare for me) but in so many of them the mc also has a very slow burn romance sideplot with at least one of those scenes... it completely takes me out of the immersion. finding something i genuinely like from start to finish is hard

I do think that the "sex repulsion as dysphoria about being culturally assigned a sexual identity or role that is incongruent with how you see yourself" framework can apply to a lot of other queer experiences besides just my particular brand of asexuality + total sex repulsion, by the way. A gay man who is repulsed by the idea of sex with women is experiencing sex repulsion, even if he doesnt experience it with men. A trans person who is repulsed by the idea of sex pre-transition is experiencing sex repulsion even if they don't experience it after transitioning to their desired comfort level. I think this framework offers a lot of potential for solidarity across queer experiences, without forcing either fully sex-repulsed people or anyone else in the community to compromise on their comfort or boundaries.

Once you start looking at sex repulsion this way, you understand that it's inherently a queer experience, not the conservative puritan bogeyman everyone here seems to think it is. There's not just part of the community that doesn't like sex, and then everyone else who does — there is a whole community of people who can't or don't want to fit in the "one cisgender man and one cisgender woman in a sexual/romantic marriage with children" box, and whose boundaries lie somewhere outside it. No one here has to be anyone's competition. We just need to build a world that's expansive enough that we can all fit.

I think something people don't seem to get about sex repulsion is that it's not some easily definable thing? It can fluctuate. I can be repulsed by sex irl, but not by it in media. I could actively seek it out in media while also being absolutely queasy at the thought of that same thing happening irl. I can sometimes feel repulsed by it in media, and sometimes not. I can sometimes feel neutral about sex irl and sometimes be actively disgusted by it. I can enjoy casual touch but get averse when that touch becomes sexual.

I just feel like people treat sex-repulsion like it's a monolith and you need to fit into one particular slot where you're either repulsed by all things sex, or you're neutral about all things sex, or you actively enjoy all things sex. Where's the in-between? Human experiences are not so easily carved out and defined

I'm glad someone is saying this to be honest, because I am tired of having to explain to people that being sex repulsed does not necessarily mean I am repulsed to all sex. For me personally I am repulsed to sex in real life, but usually okay with it in media, but it also depends. And that's just me, it varies from person to person, and I'm just so glad someone is acknowledging that.

Okay, so it's actually really nice to have someone say this. Because I don't think I've ever actually seen anyone say it before and what, am I just supposed to figure all this out on my own? It definitely varies for me, sometimes I'm neutral, sometimes I'm repulsed, sometimes I'm kind of favourable. Sometimes there's just no knowing which it'll be at any given time.
