UHM HAVE YOU GUYS SEEN THE FEMALE CHARACTERS THEY’RE PRESENTING?
Lemme break it down for you because “hurr we got one screencap of the damn game that totes means objectifying blergh bullshit”.
As far as information given there are 5 female heroes out of 11, and out of the 11, 1 of them is a genderless robot. So now you’ve got an equal distribution of the sexes. Wow!
The five heroines are: Widowmaker (screencapped above), Pharah, Symmetra, Mercy, and Tracer. And let me tell you a thing about how that screen cap ain’t doing shit because as far as designs go, the majority of them aren’t sexualised.
Let’s start with Widowmaker:
Obviously you’re impressed by Widowmaker’s skin tight suit. But then again, she is still a badass.
Now, you can’t really complain about Mercy here being scantily clad and looking soooooo sexy. She’s a support, and she’s fully clothed it’s pretty damn cool. Sure, her boobs are kinda defined… but so are her bomb ass guns?
Okay, I’m gonna admit and say that when I first saw Tracer, I thought she was a teenage boy. She’s not scantily clad, she’s not buxom, and she’s definitely not weak.
Here we have an Indian lady called Symmetra. Symmetra shows a lot of thighs, but in no way is she sexualised throughout the gameplay (if you’ve watched it). In addition to that, she also seems to have a prosthetic arm. She’s kinda going into super badass level?
Pharah’s Egyptian and basically a mega bamf. Full on armor. You’d be realllllly reaching if you said she’s shown as some sort of sexy character in the game.
You don’t have to like the type of game it is but the character designs are far from objectifying and stereotypical. Alongside actually getting some representation like Indian and Egyptian heroes.
tl;dr: Kotaku is a piece of shit.
