In my own little headcanon that I 100% believe in I think Daniel disassociates when he becomes overwhelmed or it is too much for him to handle so his brain locks up.

To me the most obvious example is the two parters ‘Out of mind/ Into the fire’ where Hathor captures them. I think he is partially out of it the whole time they are there.

I think he only becomes aware when he is kneeling in front of the Stargate and Jack comes out of the forest and starts yelling nonsense trying to act like a goa’uld and he looks up and says ‘Jack?’

And also the episode New Ground, that boy was so far gone in that episode he was like a zombie.

I love when Daniel and Teal’c have their little moments + some cultural differences that make personal space a gray area

SG-1 if they were from the world of ATLA:

Teal'c: A firebender. I see a lot of parallels between him and Zuko, also whenever he does Kelno'reem he has a bunch of candles. I imagine he would match the strength of the candle's flame to his breathing.

Jack: Non-bender. This may just be because he reminds me of Sokka, but I think if anyone could go toe-to-toe with benders as a non-bender, it would be him.

Daniel: an airbender, because he's the most committed to peace/understanding of the group. That isn't to say he wouldn't go off the rails at times. Airbenders are peaceful, not helpless.

Sam: A waterbender, because she adapts to/overcomes basically any situation you put her in. Also, she can use goa'ould healing tech and waterbenders are healers. Plus she faces sexism the same way Katara had to in season 1, so there are some parallels there.

This is just for fun and not meant to be taken seriously! Just a little thought experiment

Another thought that keeps popping up during my Stargate Rewatch With An Adult Brain is “why is an archeologist there??”

Like, I know Daniel’s a part of the team and he does have a lot of on-the-job experience as an intergalactic explorer but also maybe sometimes there’s a person with a more specialized skillset that can handle some of this?

Well SG-1 is also a first contact team. They need someone who is able to communicate with the natives and make nice with them. He is mainly an archaeologist but he does have 2 other phds. Daniel’s degree in anthropology comes in handy when he has to quickly connect the dots and figure out the cultural context of the civilizations they meet.

It’s his job to go and say “Hello 👋 we’re peaceful explorers” lol

I do find it funny when they take him on undercover/military missions though, like what’s my boy doing there ?! he is just there to get in trouble at that point 🥹

1- It’s a genuinely good episode

2- daniel looks hot

sometimes they coincide, which makes for a great watch
