✦ Warnings:— Angst— Happy Ending— Suggestive Ending— fem reader
The afternoon sun streamed through the windows of Darkwick Academy's main hallway, painting the tiled floor with golden highlights. Class had ended barely ten minutes ago, but you still felt that flutter in your stomach that hadn't left you since first period. It had been a message from Sho.
Simple and straight to the point.
"Senpai, stop by my classroom after school. I'll show you something I've been working on."
And just like that, your day had stretched into eternity. Not that you needed much to get excited when it came to him. There was just something about Shohei Haizono that drove you absolutely crazy. Maybe it was the way he talked, with that defiant, carefree tone that made everyone think he was a textbook delinquent. Maybe it was how, despite his bad-boy appearance, he turned out to be one of the kindest people you'd ever met in your entire life.
Because yes, Sho—the guy who talked like he couldn't give a damn about anything or anyone—was the same one who cooked for you in his food truck, the one who worried about you in his own clumsy way.
And then there was Leo Kurosagi. That insufferable idiot who'd been his "partner in crime" long before they came to Darkwick. If Sho could put up with Leo, he definitely had a saint's patience.
But honestly? What really messed with your head the most were his hands.
Yes, his hands. You couldn't help it. They were a cook's hands—nimble fingers that chopped vegetables with surgical precision, palms that worked the stovetop of his food truck with a skill that left you breathless. Hands that, in your wildest fantasies (and boy, were they wild), you imagined tracing across your skin with that same confidence and mastery.
Oh god, what a dirty mind you have, you scolded yourself as you walked down the first-year students' hallway. Focus. You're going to see Sho. Nothing else. But your heart was hammering so hard it felt like it wanted to leap right out of your chest.
The hallway was relatively empty. Most students had already headed to their dorms or extracurricular activities. The silence was only broken by the echo of your own footsteps and the faint murmur of some class still going on in nearby rooms.
You were about to turn the corner that led to Sho's classroom when a shrill, piercing voice cut through the air.
"—But listen to me, Sho! You can't just ignore me like this!"
Your body reacted before your brain did. Without thinking, you pressed yourself against the wall, hiding in the recess of the corner like a total stalker. Your curiosity was stronger than you, and that voice promised drama in spades.
"—I said I'm not interested,"
another voice replied. A deep, casual voice, with that hint of cockiness that made your knees weak.
Your pulse spiked so hard you almost lost your balance. There he was, on the other side of the corner, and you were eavesdropping like a complete idiot. But you couldn't move. You had to know what was going on.
"—But I'm the most popular girl in first year," the shrill voice insisted, a mix of anger and frustration in her tone.
"All the girls would kill to be in my place. Why won't you go out with me? I've done everything I could to get your attention!"
You peeked out slightly, just enough to see the scene. A girl with long hair and a flawless uniform was standing in front of Sho. She was pretty, you couldn't deny that.
Sho, for his part, was leaning against the wall with his hands in his pockets. His dark blue bandana was slightly askew, and a few strands of hair fell over his eyes.
"—Look, it's nothing personal," he said, shrugging with indifference.
"It's just… I already like someone."
Your world stopped. What?
"—Someone?" the girl blinked, incredulous. "Who? From our class? From another year?" Sho chuckled under his breath, a low, raspy sound that sent a shiver down your spine.
"—She's older than me," he said, and there was a hint of amusement in his voice, like he was enjoying the moment. "And honestly… I don't think anyone can compare to her.
The girl opened her mouth, but no words came out. Finally, she let out a huff of indignation, turned on her heel, and stormed off in the opposite direction from where you were hiding, her footsteps pounding furiously against the floor.
And you stayed there, pressed against the wall, your heart completely shattered. He likes someone older.
The phrase echoed in your head over and over. Of course Sho liked someone. What did you expect? You couldn't be naive enough to think you were the only one who noticed him. There were hundreds of better girls at the academy. You swallowed hard. Your throat felt tight, making it hard to breathe. You'd arrived so excited, so happy to spend time with him, and now…Shit, shit, shit.
Suddenly, you realized that if Sho came around that corner, he'd find you there, hiding like a weirdo. And then you'd have to explain why you were lurking around like a creep. And on top of that, you'd have to pretend it didn't bother you that he liked someone else.
You panicked.Without thinking, you turned to run in the opposite direction, but your foot caught on something metallic, and a deafening clatter shattered the hallway's silence. A trash can tipped over, spilling its contents across the floor with a god-awful racket.
"—Senpai?"Sho's voice came clear and sharp from around the corner.
You froze, your face burning with embarrassment and your heart pounding so loudly you were sure he could hear it from miles away.
Sho appeared at the entrance of the hallway, and when his eyes landed on you, a mischievous smirk spread across his face. God, this man drove you insane. With that look that said, "I caught you."
"—Senpai," he repeated, leaning one shoulder against the wall and crossing his arms. "What are you doing here?"
Your cheeks were about to catch fire. You opened your mouth, but the words got stuck in your throat. Finally, you managed to blurt out something so ridiculous you almost wanted to bury yourself alive.
"—Hey, Sho!" you said, in a voice so painfully cheerful it even sounded fake to you. "I was just looking for you! What a coincidence!"
He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused.
"Coincidence?" he repeated, a hint of mockery in his tone. "Senpai, you were hiding behind that corner, weren't you?"
"—No!" you replied way too quickly. "I mean, I… I was… looking for my… my phone. Yeah. I dropped it. And I was looking for it. And then I tripped over the trash can. By accident. Haha."
Sho let out a low laugh, and the sound ran through your entire body.
"—Sure," he said, and he clearly didn't believe a word of it. "Well, since you're here… we were supposed to meet, right? Let's go."He offered you his hand, and you took it with trembling fingers. His hand was warm, steady, and for a moment, you forgot all the sadness you'd felt just a minute ago.
As they walked toward the Vagastrom dormitory, Sho chatted about random things: what he'd been cooking, how his day went, some stupid thing Leo had done. You nodded and smiled in all the right places, but your mind was elsewhere. He likes someone older.
The phrase wouldn't go away. It had lodged itself in your head like a splinter, and there was no way to pull it out. When they reached the entrance to the Vagastrom dorm, Sho opened the door and gestured for you to go in. His room was an organized mess: clothes on the floor, notes piled on the desk, and in one corner, his motorcycle helmet rested next to Bonny.
"—Sit down," he said, pointing to the bed. "I'll go grab what I wanted to show you."
You sat on the edge of his bed, hands clasped tightly over your knees. Sho moved around the room with ease, rummaging through his things, and you couldn't help but watch him.
Who is it?, you wondered. Is it a second-year? A third-year? Is she prettier than me? More interesting? The lump in your throat grew bigger.
Sho turned at that moment and looked at you carefully. His smirk faded slightly, replaced by a more serious expression."—Hey," he said, dropping what he was doing and walking over to you. "What's wrong? You've seemed off ever since I saw you in the hallway. And don't give me that phone excuse."
You swallowed hard. He was too close. You could smell his cologne—the one that drove you crazy. His blue eyes were boring into you, searching for answers.
"—It's nothing," you lied, looking away. "I'm fine."
"—Senpai." The sound of your name made you shiver—he had so much power over you."—Don't lie to me," he said, his voice softer now. "What's going on?"
And then, without knowing where you got the courage, you looked up and met his eyes directly. Your cheeks were burning, your heart was racing so fast you thought it might explode, but you couldn't stop. You had to know."—Sho," you said, your voice trembling slightly. "Do you like someone?"
The silence grew heavy. Sho looked at you for a long moment, his eyes scanning your face like he was searching for something. And then, slowly, a teasing grin spread across his lips.
"—Were you listening, senpai?" he said, tilting his head slightly. "Didn't anyone tell you eavesdropping is bad?"Your face went up in flames.
"—I wasn't eavesdropping!" you protested, even though you both knew it was a lie. "I was just passing by and…!"
"—And what?" he interrupted, taking another step closer. Now he was so close you could almost feel his breath on your skin. "What exactly did you hear?"
"—That… that you like someone older than you," you murmured, your voice coming out smaller than you'd intended.Sho was quiet for a moment. And then, to your complete surprise, he let out a low, husky laugh.
"—Senpai," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "Did you really not figure it out?""—Figure what out?""—That that person… is you."
"—…What?" Sho leaned in closer, his forehead almost brushing against yours.
"—I've been trying to get you to notice for months," he said, his voice a low rasp. "I cook for you, I look for you, I help you with whatever you need, I always worry about you… and you still don't get it."
"—That girl is nobody," he cut her off. "And what I said was true. There's no one who can compare to you.
"You couldn't say anything. The words refused to come out. All you could do was stare at him, your heart pounding so hard you were sure he could feel it.
And then, Sho leaned in and kissed you.It was a deep, consuming kiss that stole your breath and made you forget everything except him. His hands found yours, interlacing his fingers with yours, and when he finally pulled his lips away, you were completely breathless."—Is it clear enough now, senpai?" he said, with that cocky smirk of his. "Or do I need to prove it to you again?"
Your cheeks were burning. Your heart was hammering so hard you thought it might burst out of your chest. But for the first time all day, you smiled for real.
"—Maybe I need a few more demonstrations," you whispered, and your voice sounded much bolder than you actually felt.
Sho let out a low laugh, and his eyes darkened with a glint that made you hold your breath.
"—That can be arranged," he said, and his hands slid from yours down to your waist, pulling you closer. "But first… I want you to know one thing.""—What?""—That what I said in the hallway was serious," he murmured, his mouth so close to yours that you could almost feel his words. "There's no one who can compare to you. And I'm not about to let you go anywhere."
And then, Sho kissed you again, and this time nothing was holding you back.
-----------------------------------------------------
When you finally pulled apart, the room was bathed in a warm twilight glow coming through the window. Sho looked at you, and for once, there was no trace of his usual defiant attitude in his eyes. There was only something soft, something that made you feel like you were the most important person in the world to him.
"—You know?" he said, running a finger along your cheek. "When I saw you hiding in that hallway, I knew you'd heard everything."
"—And you didn't even care!" you protested, though a smile escaped your lips."—I cared a lot," he admitted, his voice sincere. "But I was hoping you'd figure out it was you."
Damn Shohei Haizono and his ability to say exactly the right thing at the right moment.
"—You're such an idiot," you whispered, but you said it with so much affection that all he could do was smile.
"—Your idiot," he corrected, and kissed your forehead.
The rest of the night was history... And when his hands began to explore your body with deliberate slowness, you knew you hadn't imagined a thing. Shohei Haizono was a prodigy at everything he did, and this was definitely no exception—and above all, now he was yours. But that, as he himself said, was a story for another night.
Welllll, I hope you all enjoyed it, my loves! 🩷 It's my very first one-shot, so please be patient with me!! 🥹✨
