Week 1: Insanity (Thank God, I've been prepping with Zumba. Not.)
Week 1 of Insanity is done, bitches. There was a lot of sweat, unattractive groaning and many hard times where I was yelling at Shaun T. to just let me live. It was all very dramatic.
As a beginner, I had a ton of questions and I wanted to compile some of my initial concerns and frivolous queries for another newbie and because I want to make sure I’m holding myself accountable for seeing this through. Hopefully, give some tips and motivation to normally lazy, working girls like me. By working I mean, standard corporate not prostitution.
Day 1 / Fit Test: Do this with a partner. I have the worst time counting my reps and focusing at the same time. It’ s a mental deficiency.
Switch Kicks: 35 sets
Power Jacks: 49
Power Knees: 71
Power Jumps: 24
Globe Jumps: 8
Suicide Jumps: 11
Push-Up Jacks: 10
Low Plan Oblique: 34
I cannot wait to take this again. I wasn’t too happy with the results. I felt uncoordinated as hell on the switch kicks but deciding to roll with this and do WAY better on day 15.
Day 2 / Plyometric Cardio Circuit: You start off with jogs, then jumping jacks, heismans, 123 heismans, butt kicks, high knees and then mummy kicks and this is just the warm up. Be prepared to do this three times in a row, each time pushing harder. This was hard. The only joy I had was hearing Shaun T. telling me to jack it up because I’m immature and I like how it sounds.
You do some stretching then hop into your first circuit: Suicide Drills, Power Squats, Mountain Climbers, Ski Downs. Keep in mind you always go three times, each time pushing harder than the last. You get a 30 sec water break between sessions. Sometimes drinking water makes me want to throw it back up.
The 2nd circuit starts with basketball drills which are pretty fun and then it’s all floor work from there with level one drills (push ups, running in plank), ski abs and jumping forwards and backwards in plank. You feel so fantastic seeing the timer run down but he gets you right back up doing some jabs and boxing. Then you stretch and fall out.
My knees took a beating from dropping down during some of the pushups. Tough day.
Day 3 / Cardio Power and Resistance: Some different exercises in warm up but same format. Still a little tough getting through it 110%, it’s so tempting to cheat and go slower. As yesterday, you go through two different circuits, the first being: Power Jumps, Belt Kicks, Hit the Floor, V Push-ups. I hate jumping. I feel so freaking heavy and uncoordinated. I really liked the V push-ups because it gave you a sec to catch your breath before hitting it hard.
The 2nd circuit had more jumping: Hurdle Jumps, Globe Jumps, Moving Push-ups, Floor Sprints. Moving push-ups are the worst. But my arms already feel a million times stronger and slimmer.
Day 4 / Cardio Recovery: This was a very yoga-centric session with a lot of slow, purposeful movements focusing on strength and power. It’s easier than the past two days but not easy by any means especially when it comes to holding your squats. I definitely had to get up at least twice because my thighs were just burning. The entire work out seemed shorter and it was almost a bit disappointing because I wanted to keep pushing harder. I’m impatient.
Day 5 / Pure Cardio: Just when I was getting the hang of the routine with warming up, stretching and then bursts of intervals with water breaks. This was straight up non-stop cardio and everytime you’re watching the little bar hit time, he jumps into a new exercise. Brutal but effective.
Day 6 / Plyometric Cardio Circuit: It’s only be a week but I feel better. I feel stronger, happier. I was able to get through the warm up without stopping and really pushing hard. This time, I felt really good about both circuits.
Day 7 / Rest: I cheated and did the Cardio Recovery disc again because I feel super antsy when I don’t work out now. But I took it pretty easy and did some dancing while I cleaned my closet with I will count as cardio. And we went dancing last night too. Double cardio. Bam. But I also drank (only one though!) so it’s a wash.
Overall: My spirits are up. Like I never been happier. I feel slimmer and more fit and I have a ton more energy. While I usually do extreme car dance to work, it’s kicked up to an annoyingly hyper level. I’m one of those people now where you’re like….just want to slap that ho. No one should be that happy at 8am.
I added some q&a (at least things I had googled prior to starting) after the jump <3
