I also think that the strength gap is at least partially manufactured women would in fact be stronger overall if little girls were encouraged to do physically taxing games and activities and eat their fill while they’re growing vs having to constantly diet and be sedentary indoors (or god forbid do intense cardio while under-eating). The amount of adult women honestly afraid to lift weights bc they think they’ll get bulky as though bulking isn’t a full time job that athletes have to spend all their time on and anyone on earth gets shredded from just using their adult muscles for their intended purpose, girl your bone density 🥀
if you say women are intentionally nerfed from birth in 2026 people look at you like you’re insane and start condescendingly telling you about how women are just better at different things (but not during their periods haha) but this was a completely basic feminist talking point I grew up with like “girls can do it too! [shot of little girls climbing and running with boys]” nickelodeon commercial tier base level I hate it how is everyone suddenly dumber than the average 7 year old

I think one of the best and unintentionally funniest worldbuilding aspects in Star Wars is the reasoning of why did Bail and Breha adopt Leia instead of having their own children. Leia is first established as the princess of Alderaan before she is written to be Luke's sister. So now we need to figure out how she got to Alderaan. She was adopted because she needed to be hidden and separated from her brother. Bail was placed there to be one of the only people who knew so there would be a reason why it was them who got her. They specifically wanted a daughter. Why? Because Alderaan is a matriarchal society, so they needed a princess. Why didn't the Queen and her husband have biological children? Because they can't. Why? Because the Queen can't have kids. Why? Because she got injured as a teenager and got her internal organs replaced and her body can't handle a pregnancy. How did she get injured so badly? She fell off of a mountain. How did that happen? She was climbing it. Why was the future Queen climbing a mountain in the first place? Because she needed to go through three challenges in order to inherit the throne and one of them required her to go through something physically impressive. Why? Because before that they just held a Battle Royale for all the heirs and the one left alive got the throne and they at some point figured out that maybe they shouldn't be doing that, actually. Oh, okay.
I am once again reminded of this image
I have to wonder how much of people's opinions of Jade Shadows is shaped by not finding the memorial? for her in the Conclave syndicate room (weird place to put it, DE). I do think its reductive as fuck to be like even using only Jade Shadows' own story as context to be like "She only exists to give birth" when it's clear her birthing her child is her own choice, just like her choice to save Stalker, and was presented as a mystery WHY she did those things. It's very much centred around her and the Stalker exists more as the frame for the mystery of the quest. Jade is the driving force of the story, by choices both forced upon her and ones she made herself. Wish, we could have gotten but more but ultimatly suffers the same thing TOP suffers from DE's insistence on "compact storytelling" for their quests. They want to shove as much story into as little time as possible and quests have, and will continue to, suffer because of that unless they happen to be the exact kind of story that benefits from that kind of structure (Whispers in the Wall for example). Also, that whole ending sequence is goofy as fuck. That said read the extra stuff for her in the Conclave- it's really good :).
I don't think it can be overstated how much my opinion of Jade Shadows was shaped by playing it at launch (June 18, 2024.)
A month later, at Tennocon July 20th, DE added the Jade's Promise memorial to the game.
So, Jade's Promise was written in response to a month of player feedback that the quest wasn't clear that Jade wanted her child. (Closest we get is a clueless Operator saying "Whatever's been draining her... it's speeding up. And she's not fighting it." Which, coming from a kiddo who doesn't even realize she's pregnant until the contraction mini game starts...we can see why the playerbase asked questions. And left some pretty pointed feedback that for a quest named for Jade, she was only onscreen to save Stalker, have a baby, and die.
In my opinion, Jade's Promise is one of the best 'saving throws' DE made to patch up a glaring hole in the story they tried and failed to tell.
So much so that if I see a reddit post from players finishing the quest, I make a point to direct them to Teshin's Conclave on the Relay to read Jade's Promise. The Jade Shadows experience is night and day without/with Jade's own voice saying what she wholeheartedly wants, even at the cost of her life.
...
I remember the timeline specifically because I was in the middle of writing my fic Jade Shadows AU: If only Stalker asked the Drifter for help when Jade's Promise dropped. And to be clear, if Jade's Promise had launched with the quest, I probably wouldn't have been so driven to write a fix-it fic where I worked through a number of issues I had with the quest.
Like, if players read it now after they've read Jade's Promise? The moment where Drifter asks Jade if he should try to save her or her son is no big deal. Thanks to Jade's Promise, we know what she wants. When I wrote it, however, that was me making sure Jade had the chance to make her wishes known, because she for sure did not get to say so in the quest I played.
re-watching the original trilogy is great because you really get a sense for how weird luke skywalker is, just how quickly he becomes that weird AND how quickly he commits to it. Like he's honestly pretty chill in a new hope, but the absolute INSTANT he figures out he can move shit with his mind he goes full send on the cryptic off-putting bullshit. Walking around in full black robes, speaking in riddles, aura farming and backflipping whenever physically possible. He's clearly annoyed when he first meets yoda in empire, but he dismisses that pretty quickly in favour of ALSO becoming an over-dramatic space wizard. The combination of his two teachers being yoda and obi-wan kenobi and him being the son of anakin and padme creates the single most intense and fundamentally kind force sensitive perfectly embodying the heart of the jedi order whilst also serving egregious amounts of cunt and being bizarre to be around. He would have THRIVED as a jedi master during the high republic. he would have been every padawan's favourite and every other master's worst nightmare
Going off the Shaak Ti and Plo Koon asks, could you imagine order 66 going like “we can’t, mom and dad said no” lol
LMAO PERFECT 10/10 FIX-IT AU I HAD TO DRAW THIS
(commission info // kofi support!)
If i had a nickel for every time a piece of fiction i cant be normal about had a key location be the tau system… id have two nickles. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice.
truly wonderful to see people call anakin "disability coded" when he is very very explicitely disabled. like i get what you mean. but he is actually disabled. he doesn't have an arm. why do people forget he doesn't have an arm. honestly it's a shame how his physical disability isn't really considered in fandom conversations around him. that's also why I really fw brotherhood and the wild space novel. they finally give some insight as to how he felt about losing a limb, and also what that meant for him considering possible negative jedi views about having a mechanical arm and a bit on how he recovered. I can't speak for people with that kind of disability but I wish that anakin's mechanical arm wasn't just treated in a "oh! too bad he lost an arm! well he can just get an exactly identical one except now he wears a cool glove and nothing else changed!" way cause it definitely did impact his character a lot. same for luke in many ways. I get where people are coming from and I don't mean this maliciously at all but also they ARE disabled people forget that a lot.
this comment being about tcw just makes everything better

ASK AND YE SHALL RECEIVE
here is probably the most whimsical and gormless creature ive made so far. just utterly permeable. under investigation for an allergy to tap water
Ok so my kid had an ear infection, right? As kids often do.
The doctor scraped out a bit of earwax to have a better look inside.
I was sent a bill for $200 PER EAR for this 5 second procedure which I did not give permission for them to do.
That was key- they did not ASK me if they could do this "procedure". And, as I OWN a medical practice (it's me. The medical practice is me, sitting in my house on video calls) I knew to call them when this bill came in to be like "You did not obtain informed consent for this procedure, and it was not en emergency procedure. You had full ability to gain my consent and didn't. I'm not paying."
And the massive hospital who owned the bill said "yuh-huh you do have to pay."
And I said "I own a practice. I know these laws. I do not owe you money for this."
And they conducted an "internal review" and SURPRISE! Decided I totally owed them money and they had never done anything wrong ever.
And so I called my state's Attorney General office, and explained the situation because, as I mentioned, I know the law. The AG got in touch within a couple days to say they were taking the case and would send the massive hospital conglomerate a knock it off, guys letter.
Lo and Behold, today I have a letter where said hospital graciously has agreed to forfeit the payment.
"How not to get screwed over by companies" should be part of civics class.
Know your rights and know who to call when they're infringed on. This whole process cost me $0 and honestly less effort than I would have expected.
May this knowledge find its way to someone else who can use it.
This post is super cute and all but like.... This isn't practical advice. I called the AG???? And they got involved over a $200 bill. Maybe because you yourself are a medical practitioner. Not just your knowledge but also your status.
Civics class wouldn't help most people in this case because the AG will not take on all these cases and most people cannot afford an attorney in this instance or more importantly, the hit to their credit.
The issue is not education over the system, it is the system
I agree the system is a mess but I think education does matter because people seem not to know that this is actually perfectly routine AG office stuff. I’m not the only person who’s done this- this is just what they do?
Were they going to get into a lawsuit over my $400 bill? No obviously not. But they printed up a letter on fancy letterhead to say to stop and it worked. They followed up with me the next day to be sure, and so ask how much money they had saved me.
They use dinky cases like mine to track habitual misbehavior of large scale companies to build cases they could actually go to court over.
And because people are shocked- I never spoke to the AG of my state directly. He operates mainly by overseeing a whole crew of people. And this is what those people do.
This didn’t happen because I’m special because of my tiny therapy practice.
This happened because this is what the AG office is for.
“The problem is systemic” doesn’t mean “and there’s nothing you can do”.
This is a systemic problem but that doesn’t mean there are no resources to help.
Thank you for clapping back on this. I'm here to reinforce. Yes, you CAN call your state Attorney General office when an entity is doing something illegal, even if it's "only" for $400. You think they don't care a hospital is doing a crime because it's not a big enough crime?
Then you've been trained well by "The System".
Yes, that System you say can't be fought? Where did you get that idea, huh? Who taught you that "small" acts of illegality don't matter? Who made you think that there's no point in fighting back because it will all come to nothing?
Might it be the same entities that benefit if you believe all that?
Gonna pause and let you ponder.
Never. Ever. EVER.
EVER.
Let companies or corporations or hospitals or organizations or any business big or small get away with screwing you over without a fight. Maybe you personally don't win every fight, but you lose 100% of the time you don't try. You'll win more often than you think you will. I know cuz I've done it.
So have others. Attorneys General offices bring lawsuits against businesses all the time. They do so because citizens contacted them to say "someone is doing a crime" and the crime doers did not stop when told and got into way more trouble than if they'd just stopped. FAFO. The Find Out can't happen if you don't even bother to report the Fucking Around.
On that note, as OP said, please know your rights! And, in a situation where you don't but suspect something is hinky, ask! The people of the internet can help! So can librarians! So can many others. Find out what is and is not okay for them to do. If it's not okay, report them! See something, say something.
Don't let the System win by default.
Fight, damnit!
Additionally, pay attention to State Attorney elections! Here in Minnesota, our AG Keith Ellison has made it a POINT to go after slumlords, has created an entire UNIT in the AG office dedicated to wage theft, and gone after debt relief for people who were conned by those scummy fake universities. And despite MN being a blue state, one of his elections was a fucking NAIL-BITER.
Absolutely fight the system, absolutely go to your AG office if you’re being screwed over, and also pay attention to the people running for AG in the first place.
Government of the people, by the people, and for the people only works if the people make it work. That's you! You're the people.
"Don't bother doing anything because nothing will happen" confused cause with effect: it's really "Nothing will happen if you don't bother doing anything." Yeah, I know, it's a travesty that they don't hand you psychic powers when you take your oath as a civil servant, but until we fix that clear defect in our democracy: you're serving the public, too, when you report fuckers like this.
Not gonna leave this in the tags:
Suspicion of The System™️ is one of the ways The System™️ perpetuates itself.
If you believe The System™️ is only for Them™️ and not you, it will only ever be so.
Know the rules so you can make them work for you. Or better, how to break them in ways that hurt The System™️ and help you.

this is what happens when society denies women functional pockets for too long
"Why can't the women population just walk in these?"
Little known fact: You can. Nobody is stopping you except for yourself.
Men's pockets also got smaller over the years and I've been using belt bags and crossbody bags since ~2006.
I have a coworker who wears one of these to work instead of a purse. She absolutely loves it.
