In all the true crime videos about 764, very few mention that Samuel was transgender or schizoaffective. Nobody’s really heard of him. He’s not on the Remembering Our Dead website either. He’s only remembered because of the infamy of 764, and nothing else. How many other Samuel’s are out there that we don’t know about?

i think the most confusing opinion i've ever seen on this site was "transfems and trans women experience transphobia and misogyny, and they intersect to create a different form of oppression. this is called transmisogyny. transmascs and trans men also experience transphobia and misogyny, but they don't intersect because transphobes see trans men as women. if you think they do intersect, you don't understand intersectionality"

As someone who has watched many trans Native brothers disappear from the community without even a word or report, I genuinely despise the white trans women who want to say that they're somehow oppressed by Native trans men and trans men of color. At least your death will be passed around in the wider community and you'll have people defending you. Meanwhile I'll never see the greatest people in my life again because the government will never acknowledge the disappearances of Indigenous folk. Because unless their fellow Native trans siblings and family say something, none of you give a shit. There is no privilege in being treated like you never existed to begin with.

"crochet can't be made by machines" went from being a cool fun fact to being a call to action of "so if you see mass manufactured crochet in Target, that was made by a person and they were underpaid and you should boycott it" which is true, it was made by a person, but EVERY item of clothing you own (that you did not purchase from a company using ethical labor) was made by a person being underpaid (at *best*.)

Sewing machines are operated by *people*. Knitting machines are operated by *people*. Yes lots of the process is automated but you cannot tell a machine "make me a t-shirt" or "make me a knit cardigan".

Higher awareness of fast fashion, and the true human labor and abuse behind it, is GREAT, but let's not pretend that the crochet hat in target is THE problem. Every article of clothing in target is the problem. "All clothes are made by people" is the jumping off point here into understanding this issue it's not just crochet it's the whole thing ahhhhHHHHHHHHHH

There's an open pit in the middle of our office plan that drops down into a bunch of very sharp spikes that kill you instantly. This is bad. People keep falling in there and dying. Someone put a sign up, the other day, all bright yellow so you can't miss it, that says "Beware!!! Spikes!!!"

The office immediately split into two factions over it. One says that if anyone falls in the spike pit it's their own fault for being so stupid and not watching where they're walking, so we should remove the sign. The other says that the sign is an insult, there shouldn't be a spike pit in our office at all, and having the sign up like that is just normalising the existence of the spike pit, so we should remove the sign.

We ended up removing the sign. Probably for the better. Still... for a while there it looked like it might have worked...

Off the cuff from some stuff I saw on the fyp: seeing a trans man with a uterus tattoo and thinking it’s aimed at you personally by calling it a “ywnbaw tattoo” (i hate that i even have to know what this 4chan nonsense means) is just treating trans men’s bodies as public property. A trans man’s relationship to his own uterus, an organ that HE has had in HIS body for as long as he's been alive, and any piece of art he may produce or relate to or any body modification he may get to express this relationship, is not a statement about or against you. Anyone who photographed it without his consent, commented on it, criticized him, and especially the commenters who called it a "ywnbaw tatto" or compated it to N*zi symbols, saw themselves as within their rights as a member of the social contract to criticize that man's choice of what to do with his own body in a censorious way. You can only express this intellectual position, while considering it to be a normal and acceptable statement no less, if you view the bodies of trans men as equivalent to a community bulletin or the wall of a public building. That is, if you view our bodies as public property.

This is misogyny, plain and simple.

I find there are two schools of thoughts on this.

Trans people that advocate for degendering body parts like the uterus. Not everyone that has a uterus is a woman and not all women have uteruses, even outside of cisnotmarivity. (Coughs in intersex)

And trans people that allow their personal discomfort surrounding dysphoria dictate how they treat other people's bodies.

All I'm saying is that I wasn't supposed to still be here. I didn't think I'd see 21. I was quite sure of it, in fact.

Now, I turn 31 in about a week.

I sing in my car at night to the angsty mixed CDs I made as a teenager, but now with a voice that I can feel rumble in my chest precisely where that heavy feeling used to sit like a bag of concrete.

My beard tickles as it blows in the wind, and my lungs are so full because they are no longer bound.

I sing, and I drive home after kissing someone goodnight who sees every part of all that I am and all I am not and does not flinch.

I go to bed sober.

And everything is not okay. But everything is better.

And I wasn't supposed to be here anymore, after I tried putting myself back in the closet very literally and permanently that October over 10 years ago.

But sometimes belts break. Knots give way.

people hear "being trans isn't just being a cis man or woman but a little different" and immediately jump down your throat about how you are third gendering all trans people. & its like. take that up with patriarchy babe! its kind of fundamental to understanding patriarchy & transphobia to understand that the categories of "man" and "woman" are not neutral but heavily policed and defined around being physically and socially in binary opposition, and trans people are oppressed on the basis of violating these categories and their rules and thus the justifications for patriarchy. like how are you gonna call yourself a transfeminist materialist and then just copy + paste shitty cissexist materialism and get mad when anyone actually talks about transphobia as its own force under patriarchy & not just as a subsection of misogyny
