Surprise, it's headcanons!

Moving some of my yammering out of discord to a more permanent home. Lucas/Kora, Lucas and Simon, Simon and Gaul headcanons under the cut!

Lucas and Kora

Lucas taught Kora how to use the longsword when she first joined the fledgling Rangers. Gaul was a bit butthurt over it for an embarrassing amount of time because being a longsword duo was his and Lucas' thing. Why the hell was Lucas bringing in someone else!? >:(

Kora knew nothing about the gunlance when she picked it up upon first realizing her feelings for Lucas. The only thing she knew was that Azuria had a gunlance unit, and they were touted as being one of the country's most reliable shields, and she liked the ring of that so much with how it went with her resolve to protect Lucas that she barreled forward with it

Neither of them can cook, but Lucas is slightly less hopeless in the kitchen than Kora is. He has one recipe that's his "marry me" recipe and he learned it just because Kora loved the spice mix it used so much.

They each kept their own set of lodgings in the Ranger barracks for ease of use, but after they married they bought a little house not far from Carletta's

Both of them were young and just really enjoying their life, such that the topic of children didn't really come up in any serious capacity until Amara ran off and they found themselves stepping up a bit more for the child she left behind. Lucas had always wanted a big family though. Kora was largely ambivalent, but she was of the mind that her life was happy without children, and it could also be happy with them, so long as they were Lucas'

They had guardianship of Simon for about half a year following the heir picking him up like a stray cat. It was one of the king's conditions for keeping him around, after he caved to the heir's saddest and most pathetic eyes

Simon and Lucas

He was a lonely and scared orphan boy who really thrived in Lucas' household

Since Lucas was already teaching the heir how to use the longsword, it was easy to also fold Simon into the lessons as well.

Simon never meant to bring up crystallisis explicitly, but an incident in the kitchen led to Lucas finding out about. Over the next couple weeks, Lucas pried the full story out of him, though Simon did make the man swear to secrecy

Lucas vanished about a month after that, leaving behind only a note promising that he'd be back as soon as possible, and transferring powers of acting captain to Gaul in his absence. Carletta and Gaul tried their best to comfort Kora and Simon, saying it was probably Ogden's wanderlust finally popping up. Besides, Lucas was so responsible! He'd be back before they knew it, with plenty of souvenirs and tall tales to boot.

It was the heir who let slip to Simon that Lucas had returned, because they had heard from the adults about it, and were turned away simply because he was "tired and ill from travel." Thinking it was just travel exhaustion, they passed the news onto Simon, hoping that it would cheer him up.

And it did! Except when Simon finally successfully managed to squeeze his way into Lucas' sickroom, it was to find that the man was deeply crystallized, at a stage far more advanced than even Cosimiro had been.

Despite all reassurances from Kora and Carletta that none of it was his fault (how could it be, when he was in Azuria the entire time Lucas was off wandering the world?), Simon internalized Lucas' death and put the blame solely on himself. If he had just kept his mouth shut about his arm, then Lucas wouldn't have gone away. And if Lucas hadn't gone away, he would still be alive. This would be a guilt that he carries with him throughout the rest of his life.

Simon and Gaul

As acting captain of the Rangers, Simon's tutelage largely fell to Gaul after Lucas' death. He was, admittedly, not very gracious about it, but there was something so pathetic and lonely about Simon that he eventually found himself begrudgingly caving. It does take them several very awkward forays to the medicinal fields and bent over workstations brewing potions before they finally work up any sort of shaky rapport, though.

In the weeks and months after Lucas' death, Simon worried a lot over his place in Azuria and the Rangers, what with one of his guardians being gone and the other one noticeably grieving very badly about it. Gaul, as the only one of the Rangers with a knighted title, thus decided to more or less make Simon his squire, thus giving Simon a formal reason to remain with them.

Simon never tells him directly, but he truly was grateful that Gaul did that for him.

Fawn was one of Legia's hatchlings from an earlier clutch, and was formally assigned to Simon on his eleventh birthday.

Simon's Legiana armor was a commission from Gaul that was presented to him as a coming-of-age gift. Gaul refuses to talk about it on account of it giving him hives to remember how sappy proud he was of Simon in that moment.

MHST3 HEADCANNONS PART 2

Main party edition!

As per usual. Spoiler warning if you haven't played the game yet

Ghaul:

While he's really good at recognising felynes, he has a very minor case of face blindness. Whenever one of the rangers ended up changing their hairstyle or fashion style, he wouldn't really be able to recognise them at first

He's the main medic of the team, and he's really good at his job. His bedside manner could use some work tho...

There's a tiny greenhouse at his place in which he grows a bunch of rare and endangered plants that he hopes to eventually reintroduce to the ecosystem. He hired a felyne gardener to take care of it when he's away from home for prolonged periods of time

Talks to plants

The fur-tive five live with him. What was initially a guest bedroom was turned into a palico-sized two floor apartment equipped with anything his palicoes might need. The only human sized piece of furniture is a giant file cabinet they use to store reports and evidence.

Korra:

Has a pet rock. It's just a river rock with a crooked smile and a pair of googly. She got it from Lucas on their first date

Has regular dinners with Coretta, and they are an absolute gossip fest

Sees the prince as a strange mix of a nephew and a younger cousin. She sometimes struggles remembering that he's no longer a child

Lucas used to style her hair in the mornings. She started wearing it down after he passed away.

She is surprisingly one of the worst cooks in the party

Ogden:

Knows how to play guitar

He's one of the more emotionally mature people in the team, and the younger rangers sometimes go to him for help with their issues. He always takes those talks seriously, and does his damn best to help those kids.

After failing to style Korra's hair, he made it his personal mission to learn how to do it well. Went out of his way to find a woman with a similar hair texture and basically begged her to teach him how to do it. He's getting rather good at it.

Spoils all of the Ranger's monsties. Belly rubs, treats and all of the praise they could ever want, doesn't matter if it's deserved or not

Surprisingly, one of the best cooks in the party, at least prior to Eleanor showing up. His specialty is simple camping foods, like flame grilled fish and coal roasted potatoes. His secret? He knows what spices are.

Thea:

She has a massive plushie collection! Most of them were made by her, and she bases them off of wild monsters she sees. It's slowly becoming a cuddly version of a monsterpedia

She idolised Emilé before joining the rangers, and had some... Interesting misconceptions about him. He turned out to be way less graceful and princely than she imagined.

She was a little bit scared of Ratha at first. Upon realising that he's basically a massive, spoiled cat with an attitude problem, all of those fears disappeared. She is now a proud member of the "he's never done anything wrong ever and deserves all of the treats" club, much to Emilés chagrin

Massive sweet tooth

She was convinced that Emilé and Simon were dating. Found out it wasn't the case when everyone looked at her weird after she said that the captain must be heartbroken about losing his boyfriend

Simon:

The reason why the Ranger's painkillers mysteriously go missing

Number one break taking advocate. You're struggling with a task? How about we take a little break and come back to it in a bit

Carries around non-perishable snacks for Emilé.

The gloves are compression gloves. They help with managing the pain caused by crystalysis.

He made it his job to keep Emilé safe. Too bad that Emilé does not care about his own safety and wellbeing...

A secret third member of the "Ratha did nothing wrong ever" club

Has a big box of spare glasses for Emilé, and carries at least one pair in his pouch, because SOMEONE refuses to wear the THING THAT MAKES THEM LESS BLIND

Has beef with Rudy.

Absolutely dreads having to report to Vermil, partially because it's risky, but mostly because it's a constant reminder that his current life and happiness won't last forever

Eleanor:

Actually didn't know about Simon being a spy. Or Vermil even having a spy.

Gets really excited about the smallest things. Has screamed in joy while looking at birds and wild flowers before

She was kind of shocked that the Azurian king accepted her offer to become a hostage, and even more shocked at how well she's being treated by the prince and the rangers

Absolutely did NOT expect Gravy to be able to fly.

Did not really expect the prince of Azuria to have a job. She was told that the Azurian royalty is lazy, greedy, unkind and uncaring, and here is the crown prince, being EMPLOYED and HELPING THE COMMON PEOPLE. And he's just. A guy. That's a normal guy.

Her picking up the cooking was a great relief for the whole ranger team because their previous solution of taking turns led to more than one case of food poisoning

Rudy:

Has beef with Simon. It started out as being one sided (Rudy being suspicious of Simon), but after a few months Simon returned the Felynes feelings (can this cat STOP INTERRUPTING MY QUALITY TIME WITH MY CRUSH FRIEND?!)

Somehow managed to avoid hearing the things people say about the prince behind his back, and is miraculously unaware of the fact that The Heir Is Not Well Liked

It took him a while to learn how to fly on Ratha with the prince without falling off

MHST3 HEADCANNONS PART 1

(No art yet for i am away from home for easter. Also spoilers for the first act)

The Heir:

His name is Emilé. He's a looser.

The boy is CHRONICALLY depressed. Like actually forgot what happiness felt like until he met Simon

He's a really good actor, but he only really uses his skills to convince people that he's fine. He isn't.

Emilé HATES politics with a passion. He used to run away from the castle and hide in the wilderness to hide away from any "princely duties" and official events

The only real reason that he stopped hiding and running away is because his father figured out that "behave or I'll take away your Simon privileges for the week" is a more effective alternative to grounding him

Profoundly autistic.

Loves reading children's books, even as an adult

He tends to forget to take care of himself, and struggles with some time blindness. These two traits mix like sodium and water.

He's also always cold

Balancing the whole royalty thing and his job as a captain of the rangers led to him not getting enough sleep, which in turn led to Emilé developing a habit of napping in strange places at strange times. He usually wakes up from those naps covered in whatever blanket-passing object the first ranger to find him had on hand

Some of the notable makeshift blankets include: Monstie saddles. Overdue paperwork. Dry leaves. Legia (yes. The whole ass monstie). Tent tarps. A pile of dirty laundry. A folding table. A mattress. And, unsurprisingly, a certain someone's jacket

The day before the Vermil attack, he ended up falling asleep in the rangers base, and Simon was the one who found him. Emilé didn't get a chance to return the jacket to him before everything went to shit

Ratha:

Spoiled as fuck

Has a tendency to just. Pick Emilé up by the collar of his shirt like a kitten when he wants attention.

He has been fed, he's just lying

Loves attention

Cat naps. Always.

Picked up on his riders habit of falling asleep in the most inconvenient places. It might be cute when a small, pickupable human does it. When it's a whole ass rathalos...

Judgemental.

Ogden keeps giving him treats. He does not deserve them.

His friendship can be bought with five to six kilos of fish

As a fun experiment to really fuck with AI Bros. Refer to AI as just being a ton of if statements and thats it. It drives them fucking crazy. Why is AI so power hungry? So inefficient with all those if statements. How does AI work? so many if statements. If asked for image of dog make dog. Duh. How does AI Think? If asked for this, tell them that. If they start getting more specific, the ONLY concession you should make is "Well yeah of course they use random number generators with the if statements to get different results. DUH." Maybe some regex parsing to really throw them for a loop as to how it understands typos. If they try to argue, ask them to show you the code for an AI. They can't. Its a black box. Then slap it on with a "Its called a large language model for a reason silly billy. Its large because of the if statements language used to form the model DUH."

Actively remove them from devices you own. Disable them whenever possible. Go out of your way to avoid them. It's honestly not hard. You've been using the internet just fine without GenAI hallucinating at you.
