HOLD ON OUTER ISNT A STAR SANS??? WHY ARE THEY CALLED STAR SANSES

it's not unheard of for outer to be a star sans, but he isn't as commonly depicted as a real member of the team as one would expect. at least in the more popular iterations of his character... he's either forgotten, or killed off very early on in whatever comic/animation he appears in. he's the fandom punching bag. probably because most see him as "not that interesting"... but i really think he has the potential to be! it's all about what we make of him!

they're called the "star sanses" because they're the good guys, and they needed a good guy motif to tie them together. dream is already associated with the sun, and artists back then liked to draw all of them with the same starry eyes (to signal "innocence"), so it was pretty logical to go with that. it was solidified once the bigger creators back then started more consistently using it. we're stuck with it now

as for where it originated from... i have no idea! it was early utmv fandom, when concepts were still being formed. it think it was a case of multiple people across multiple platforms having the same idea of an "ink, dream, and blue trio," and then collectively agreeing that they should be given a team name.

(worst case scenario, (and i'm betting on this with zero proof,) the very first instance of the name being coined was in an amino roleplay chat or something, and now it's completely lost to time haha)

…at least "star sanses" isn't as laughable as "bad sanses"

as many have pointed out to me, a huge contributing factor was the steven universe fandom. ut and su had a lot of overlap at the time in both music and art. the star sanses was probably the result of a crystal gems parody!!!
