and i need to show you all some of these because ?????
AKA "Ghosts feed on emotions. The stronger, the better. Danny quickly realizes this also applies to pain. He becomes a nurse at Dr. Leslie Thompkins' clinic. Enter: the Wayne Family Dilemma." DPxDC prompt idea!
Okay, so, Danny hadn't really intended to work at Dr. Leslie Thompkins' free clinic as a nurse. He even applied for the job; he was helping somebody else who'd gotten mugged get to the free clinic and Dr. Thompkins stopped him, asked, "You're a nurse?" And he was hired. It turns out, nobody wanted to work for Dr. Thompkins because it was a crime-ridden hotspot: Crime Alley.
Danny doesn't even really realize what's happening until a patient with a GSW comes into clinic, yelling and bloody, and Danny's nitrile touch calms him enough that he doesn't even need morphine. A haphazard surgery later and Danny's fully satisfied - he doesn't even need to eat dinner because he feels like he's two minutes away from a food coma.
That's where the rumor starts. The free clinic has good drugs. Not fentanyl, oxycodone, dilaudid, or ketamine. Something better that has no side effects and totally erases every pain - as little as a sore throat to chronic pain that doctors have said there's no cure for. It becomes so well known that Dr. Thompkins' clinic is a huge target and a certain batfamily has to stake out the place to dissuade criminals.
Enter: Dick Grayson, former BPD officer with chronic leg pain after being shot in the leg. Jason "Totally Not A Crime Lord" Todd whose extensive burns affect the right side of his body. Barbara Gordon, Gotham librarian whose spinal injury causes phantom pain.
It becomes apparent that there's something amiss when Timothy Drake-Wayne comes to clinic. Wayne Enterprise CEO and multi-millionaire, who can absolutely afford at least five ambulance rides and a lengthy inpatient stay at a five-star private hospital. Dr. Thompkins catches Danny while he's trying to hide in the staff room, snatching him by the collar and dragging him out to meet him. ("Why do I have to talk to him?!?" "Danny, I can't afford to entertain some rich kid when there is actual work to be done. Just give him what he wants and take his money." "Dr. Thompkins?!")
Danny awkwardly gestures for Mr. Drake-Wayne to sit on one of the crinkly paper seats, pulling the worn-out curtain closed despite there being no other patients in clinic.
"So... What can I help you with, Mr. Drake-Wayne?" Danny asks.
"Just Tim, please," The older man says and smiles in that I'm-so-rich-I-can-afford-dental-insurance way. Sparkly straight, white teeth and all.
"Uh...huh.. Okay. What can I help you with, Tim?"
Tim leans forward, eyes sharp despite his suave persona. He says, "I lost my spleen a couple years ago - a ski retreat gone wrong. Anyways, I still have some residual pain. I heard this is the place to go. I'm sure you already know, but I have a lot of money. Having the backing of a Wayne, especially one who's also a Drake, would be a great... investment."
Danny gapes at him. Incredulously, he asks, "Sir, are you bribing me for drugs?"
Tim shrugs, a self-satisfied half-smile on his face. "I don't know. Is it working?"
((And... well... Danny could really use the money.))
They're gonna think that Danny is a meta who can relieve pain just by touch... Which is probably a very dangerous power to have in a place like Gotham.
The long-lost remains of King Alfred the Great have been found buried under a car park, investigators claim.
Alfred died in 899, and his bones were repeatedly moved. He was buried in Winchester Cathedral until 1110, when his remains were moved to Winchester's Hyde Abbey, where they were interred before the high altar between the bodies of his wife and son.
The abbey was demolished after the dissolution of the monasteries in 1539, and the place was left in ruins.
In 1866, during construction of a workhouse on the site, the English antiquarian John Mellor excavated the area, found what he thought were Alfred's bones and had them reburied at nearby St. Bartholemew’s Church.
But in 2013, when archaeologists exhumed and carbon-dated the bones from St. Bartholomew’s churchyard, they proved to date from over 200 years after Alfred’s death - sparking Graham's interest and search.
He said: "Whoever’s bones they were, they weren’t Alfred’s. So, I decided to discover what happened to them.
"The quest has taken me 13 years.”
Okay so like I went to a really conservative super small catholic school growing up and in like middle school they had this tradition of putting on a “wax museum” where all the kids picked a historical figure to research and then write a paper on and then write a speech about. We had to write a speech, dress up as the person we chose, and then say the speech to the whole school. Innocuous enough, right?
Thing is, I was a little cunt and I liked to push buttons. So I decided I was going to research Sappho. That’s right, that Sappho. The Greek poet from lesbos who was a massive lesbian and is the genesis of the term sapphic. At Catholic school. In 2016.
I got stern talkings to from so many teachers during the course of that project because I kept trying to write “lesbian” in big letters on the visual projects we had to do and one of the teachers tried to appeal to my pathos by going “the younger kids will see that and not know what it is and get scared” and I did NOT give a shit. She then threatened to deduct points from my grade so only then did I change it. Either way, I had to present my speech first, since the oldest historical figure went first. I was dressed in a giant bedsheet toga, and I made as many allusions to lesbianism as I could without getting in trouble or saying the word lesbian outright. I did get an A. I also got at least 5 phone calls home from teachers and the principal. Can you tell the closet was made of glass? Because I couldn’t.
I kinda think a lot of people take the Martin jealousy scene too far #tbh
A lot of people act like it legitimately upset jon when he’a smug as shit that whole scene. He’s LOVING his boyfriend acting possessive, petty and jealous. It’s one of his favourite versions of his boyfriend!
Literally no one loves bitchy Martin more then Jon does
I can't believe some people think this is actually them having discourse. Like wtf, Jon's VERY audibly AMUSED by all of it. If that's an argument, then wtf is their definition of a fight?
You are a bug in bug hell but your spider torturer so fucking bad at their job that the devil himself has to grab you with his gay pitchfork and help them
I like to see when people make Ryland Grace have siblings like colt or court but I think we are really missing out on the Percy Jackson crossover with Jason Grace
Like…are we not seeing the connections, there’s this guy named Ryland who has stuff to do with the sky and rock people with blonde hair and his last name is Grace. And then we look over and there’s this guy named Jason who has stuff to do with the sky, rock people, is blonde, AND HAS THE LAST NAME GRACE.
Idk man idk if it’s just me but I feel like it would be really cool to expand the Grace family through crossovers past colt and court
