“I mean… no more than any other in this age.” She just shrugged at that, “Villain activity is on the rise, and to be frank, even though I’m not as active anymore, it’s hard to ignore the amount of stress it’s placing on different agencies as they scramble to recruit new heroes to deal with it all.”  Gladiola took a step back and just rubbed her hands together, tracing thumbs over old lines of scars. They were the hands of a woman who had pulled hundreds out of fire and flood and rubble alike, “I don’t doubt my own strength, but I’ll admit, I don’t want to send any of my kids into this new world being build around us. They’re strong but this world’s gonna eat them alive if they aren’t careful.”

He listened - he knew all this to be true & he was aware it was because of his retirement. All might shifted his weight awkwardly.

“We’re not the ones who’ll decide their active status or not. If the PSC asks them to fight, we have to let them. Let’s do our best to train them to the best of our ability.”

Yagi paused.

“Are you teaching them to be careful?” High schoolers could be pretty stupid.

“As much as I can. For the few who chose to listen I’m teaching them everything I can about control and understanding for the situations they find themselves in, and their own bodies.” She stopped messing with her hands and just looked him over. There was some guilt in his features, that much was clear, and she had a good guess for why.

“You know Yagi, it’s not your fault. You did everything you could to keep this world safe, and you defeated the worst villain it’s ever known.” She remembered watching the fight in person up until the end, as she’d been part of the rescue effort to get civilians away from the melee. “There’s been a upsurge in your absence, but Endeavor is sure to strike a new sort of shock and awe into them given the power he’s already displayed. There are a lot of heroes rising up to pick up the torch even, you inspired so many.”

buying ppl things is SUCH a rush.. even if it’s just like.. a bag of their favorite chips or whatever.. the thought of someone experincing even a split-second burst of happiness bc they didn’t expect to get some of their favorite chips that day? what a thrill! love it

Hey, did you know you don’t have to be SEVERELY ABUSED to be TRAUMATISED? Did you know that if it’s painful enough you can be traumatised by any of the following:

- carer neglect

- emotional neglect

- abandonment/divorce

- forced isolation

- imprisonment

- bullying (at school, work or home)

- accidental injury

- severe illness

- loss of a loved one

- abuse for only a short period

- levels of stress that you can’t developmentally handle

- hell any number of things that are emotionally difficult

Please, PLEASE stop telling systems that if they weren’t abused they don’t count as traumagenic and have to identify as endogenic/some other label. It’s incredibly harmful because they’re going to deny their trauma even more instead of coping with it.

Also, just bc an alter can form due to internal stress, doesn’t mean your system is not traumagenic. Sometimes an alter just forms to help you cope with existing stressors, not bc you’ve suffered another trauma. Don’t call an alter “endogenic” just bc you didn’t endure external trauma just before they formed. Stop invalidating people’s symptoms and stresses that are caused by their disorders. These people deserve encouragement to get the support they need, not made up pseudoscience from people who don’t understand the nature of emotional trauma.

(oh and if you genuinely think that tulpas or soulbonds are equal to alters or even slightly similar to them, sit in the corner and think abt your ableism bc religious practices and mental disorders are not comparable - we have an alter who legitimately practices necromancy and divination and he is laughing at you)

First Day.

Rika smiled big. she seemed like a pretty fun and laid back person. maybe they could be friends? after all they were somewhat familiar with each other. 

“yea im excited, kinda nervous too” she replied  as she  brushed her bangs out of her face.”theres so many amazing people there, im not sure ill measure up“ Rika commented with a laugh.  the girl  deep down felt the pressure to  do her best. she wanted to make her family proud, to prove  she was nothing like her father. she was a good person. she could be a hero

she hoped this would be a new start for her, maybe people wont know about her parentage. she could finally get her life on track.

“what about you? “

“Ahh, nerves, yes.” Olivia nodded with a chuckle of her own. Of course she was also nervous. It didn’t take much to notice that she was definitely a fish out of water right now. Given her accent and general way of speaking, she probably hadn’t even been in Japan that long!

“I am.. looking forward to… how this all goes!” She pumped her fists in the air, trying to syke herself up. “I am new… to Japan… doing my best to learn… I hope I can keep up… I saw you… in the test though… your Quirk is Beautiful.” She might have been confusing her words a bit, she meant amazing, but she was struggling to keep up and her brain just autofilled in one of the positive modifiers it remembered. Maybe a little awkward given that what Olivia saw was Rika making clones of herself, and she was now calling that a beautiful Quirk with the utmost confidence in the words coming out of her mouth.

“I know you will… do very well… as long as you work.” Another happy, closed eye smile as she nodded, complete confidence in her attempt at what she thought sounded like a small compliment.

Rika blushes at her comment. No one had ever said something like that about her quirk. Most people though she was a freak. “ o-oh uh.. thank you. I hope to go far” she wanted to make everyone proud, prove she had what it takes to be a hero.

“ um so youre new? How do you like Japan so far?”

Olivia nodded again, before making a little gesture to the rest of the fairly packed train car. “Busy.” Was the first word to come out of her mouth, but she was clearly trying to think of other things to say.

“The food... is very good... lots of places... around my house.” She kept thinking, she did honestly like it here for a lot of reasons. Despite the little troubles it brought her. “The Lan-gu-age is... hard. But I’ll manage.... but... It feels like...” this time her pause felt more deliberate, like she was thinking of the word to find the right ones, rather than just having to translate them in her head. “It’s like.. a fresh start! And I... like that a lot...”

Kelda’s expression soured a little for a second for some reason, but she shook it off as her Quirk was mentioned again. But as it was she just blushed and turned her head away.

“Uhh… yeah… But it’s not important… At least, it’s nothing you need to worry about. It’s just trying to poke fun is all.” She tried to lie about what it was doing, knowing full well that it was trying to instigate other topics. She slipped out of the room for a second and returned quickly, a business card in one hand, and a incredibly long coat in the other. It would be a normal topcoat if Kelda was wearing it, but for midnight to put it on, it’d likely be close to dragging the ground.

“Here you go… if possible, when you speak to them, could you make it clear I just happened on the scene? I’m not really supposed to be doing hero work yet, but I couldn’t stand idly by seeing what was going on in that bar.”

Nemuri tilted her head, curious about the other womans reaction.

“I will. Don’t worry,” she took the card & put on the coat after standing up, “thank you again for helping me. I owe you.”

“Not a problem, and, uhh... don’t worry about it.” Kelda just smiled and tried to play off her still mounting embarrassment from her Quirk’s previous teasing. “It was cool to get a chance to talk to one of my idols. So there’s nothing owed at all! I mean,”her voice started to pick up its pace and tone. “I wouldn’t mind getting to see you again outside of seeing you on a tv, But hopefully next time will be under better circumstances! Because it’d be really cool to meet you again more casually!” 

She quickly turned away and slapped her cheeks, trying to calm herself. By the time she turned back around, her cheeks were beet red, but her expression was neutral, but happy. “Just be safe on your way back. I even wrote my number on the back of the card, in case you ever need backup and you’re in this area. Feel free to call.”

She nodded as he said that it was a shame, it really was, she went through the effort to try to put together something nice, and nothing came about from it. She really wasn’t that upset, but it would have been fun to just chat with the others more casually for a change.

“Oh?” she turned back toward him as he held the can out to her, and just carefully took it from his hands before giving him a quick bow. “Thanks Yagi, funded as this school may be, we never seem to have enough equipment to go around when a lot of students come in at once.” She moved and set it over by the one she’d just been using. While glancing down and looking it over, she just kept talking.“But it’s nice that so many love this garden, I do my best to keep it beautiful.”

“let me know what you need for this garden & I’ll see what I can do,” he thumbed up, sincere.

“you do keep it beautifully,” yagi reassured her, “I hadn’t checked on it in a while but all the plants look healthy.” He squatted down near some mint. “Just don’t forget to take care of your own health, too.”

She just smiled before walking over beside him and crouching down to inspect the same plant. “Thanks, both for the offer and the compliment.” She just chuckled to herself, reaching out to gently pluck a leaf from the mint, and with a light twist of the leaf between her fingers, the light scent in the air grew heavy with a refreshing mint aroma.

“We aren’t lacking funds, I’m just awful with paperwork and remembering to order things, and I think someone like you, retired or not, has probably got some pretty important things to take care of. More important than helping me file away order forms.” If Yagi looked her way, he’d just be greeted with her playfully sticking out her tongue as the leaf found itself stuck to his forehead, before she stood up again. Gladiola has been a hero for years, and was at least around his age, but she still refused to lose her youth. “And I do, if I let my health fail me, I can’t set the example I want for all these young bloods! Gotta be able to stand up strong even if the world tries to get you down!” She then gave an exaggerated flex, showing off the carefully honed muscles years of work helped her to maintain.

“Ahh, yes, and it should know not to lick people, without their permission!” She wrapped the fingers of the hand the tongue was coming out of, around it, and started squeezing until it let go of Nemuri. Once it did it just retreated mostly into her hand, but stayed out enough to still have a say in the conversation.

“Sorry about that… it’s my quirk, but when I’m not fighting, it sort of, but not really, has a mind of its own. Usually likes to act on my base impulses and grabs things that I might want but am either trying not to, or for other reasons.” Either it would eat things against her will when she was on a diet, or grab things out of order when she was working on a project. Or in this case grab a hold of a woman she found attractive she was now realizing she’d just openly admitted to… “Uhh….. But s-sure. I can arrange for you to speak to them. That’s totally alright… hhahahahaha.” She was just laughing to try to move past and hope that Midnight didn’t catch that. Meanwhile the little tongue just waved at the hero happily. Glad it was making Kelda suffer from mental termoil.

“I see…” It reminded her of dark shadow so the concept wasn’t too odd to understand.

The woman nodded, “hello, you naughty little thing. My name is Midnight.” She smiled at the woman’s hand, amused by it’s antics.

The tongue slid further out of her hand then curled up on itself to make a heart, before poking the tip of it through the heart and then pointing at Kelda. Gesturing what was on the woman’s mind while hearing Midnight talk like that. Once Kelda noticed what it was doing though, she literally just punched her wrist, which made a weird yelp noise, and the tongue was completely out of view again.

“Yes-” She cleared her throat before finally picking the first aid kit back up and putting it back where it was supposed to go. “-Anyways. I’ll go get one of their card for you, if you want to get in contact with them. And then I won’t keep you any longer since you aren’t hurt too bad.. I can lend you a coat as well, though I think it’d probably be a little too big.” It wasn’t like she was going to take Midnight out of her hero suit, but she had been trying to ignore the state it was in after being pulled from a fight.

She glanced over as Nemuri looked over herself, honestly she had already done a bit of patching up and applied antiseptic to some cuts to make sure that there wasn’t any chance of getting something infected. But she wasn’t particularly thorough since it felt a bit wrong to be doing that while she was unaware. “I do…” She ducked under the counter and pulled out a fairly sizable one to offer it to Midnight, “I get banged up working pretty often, taken to patching myself up where I can.” As her hands offered, if the hero looked, she’d see that this girl’s right hand, and likely up her forearm, had an interesting feature. There was a thin seam in her skin, and out of it protruded bone-like growths… they looked a bit like teeth.

“thank you,” nemuri took it & sat up, beginning to work on finishing up patching her body.

The other woman certainly was interesting looking - her blue eyes couldn’t help but stare.

“So, are you a hero or a courageous civilian that decided to help me out?”

Kelda turned away again, not sure how she should answer that question, particularly to a proper hero given that unlicensed hero work was a pretty bad thing for one to be doing.

“Something sort of in between I guess?” She was bad at lying, so she had to make something up that wasn’t quite a lie. “I’m still training. But one day I hope to be a proper Hero.” Despite how tall she was, she didn’t look particularly old at all. Maybe right around twenty. 

“Until then… yeah. I’m basically a civilian, please don’t report me?” And she just let the truth out anyways, those eyes on her whenever she glanced over made it really, really hard to lie right now.

“Who are you training under?” She winced, a cut on her leg hurting more than expected.

“I won’t this time - as a thank you for helping me. It’ll be our little secret,” kayama winked at the woman.

“thank you for all this,” she handed back the first aid kit, all done on her end.

Kelda started to answer but the words caught in her throat when she got winked at. At this point, even she was wondering how she managed to stay focused in the previous night’s brawl with Midnight there... But then again, it was a pretty different beast to just see someone, and to have them make an even mildly flirty gesture at you.

Still, she cleared her throat and tried to refocus. “I’m actually training under my guardian, the Hero Surrogate. They aren’t exactly a combat focused hero, but they are making sure I don’t hurt myself at least.” She just smiled, thinking about her Guardian Mato, and being internally really glad that they were currently out for business. “ahh, thank yo-” Kelda reached out to take the kit back, only for some weird, wet, purpleish red tendril to slide out of her palm and wrap itself around Midnight’s hand and wrist. And pretty quickly her face went from gentle flustered embarrassment, to a mildly violent, “I can’t believe this just happened” type of embarrassment.

Olivia nodded as Mode took the scissors from her, and then thought about the question asked. If she was being honest, she really wasn’t sure how much to show, when she’d looked up potential dress designs to think of and use as reference, a lot had been rather revealing... But she wasn’t sure if that was appropriate here.

“My Quirk... uses these.” she raised up one of her arms to show off the large crystal growing out of the back of her hand. “I have them... up each arm... and on my legs... and hips.” She just started patting where they were on her body, one on each hand, forearm, shoulder, shin and calf, there was one on either side of her him, and another on her chest and back. “Maybe... just the arms... don’t want to show... too much.” Again she nodded.

Gladiola stood currently alone in the fairly sizable green house, water dripping idly out of the head of her watering can as she carefully drifted it over a few freshly bloomed flowers. She’d sent the invite out to the other UA Teachers and staff, calling for them to gather to have a sort of casual conference over an indoor picnic on this cold day, to just chat and talk about their various students and how they were doing. But thus far the turnout was not what she’d desired.

After all, she was there alone currently.

And she understood why, this was a rare day with no proper conferences, no school attacks, no major student acts or meetings. They all probably went home early, or those that were proper heroes went ahead and started their hero work. She really should have expected that outcome… Oh well, at least she had her plants, and the lunch that she’d gotten LunchRush to help her with, using a lot of fresh ingredients from the Garden itself! Way more food than one person could eat, but she could figure something out for the rest of it.

While she was lost in thought, she didn’t even hear the door to the Garden open and close off to her side.

“Ah, hello! Yagi greeted her with a small wave, breaking the silence. "Am I the first one here?” He walked on in, holding a watering can in his grasp.

Gladiola jumped in place a bit, both the voice and the sudden rush of chilled air from outside snapping out of her thoughts as she stopped watering the same three plants she’d been watering for the last few minutes. Luckily the green house’s pots had holes to let excess water drain out of them. “Hmm?” Once she was back to her senses, she tilted her head to look over towards the door. The voice had been familiar, but she still hadn’t quite gotten used to seeing it with this form yet. “Ahh, Yagi. Good to see you about.” She set her watering can down for the moment and turned to look at him, giving her own wave to match his as he made his way over.  “First, and probably the only it seems. No one really responded to the message, so I don’t imagine any of the other teachers are coming.” She just shrugged, pale exposed shouldered raising and falling in an attempt to seem like the fact didn’t bother her. “Too busy with other maters it seems. I’m surprised you aren’t, retired or not.”
